I have some books waiting for me at the library that I'll pick up tomorrow. I'm hoping to find some more audiobooks before Monday, but things are crazier than ever right now. Yesterday I hit a pothole and it sounded like hell. But my car started and I continued on my way to work. Got there and was going through the parking lot when the car jerked to a stop and wouldn't move. It was like a gymnast getting 10 points for sticking the landing. It couldn't even be pushed out of the way. I was blocking the roadway, but thankfully no cars. I had it towed and am waiting to find out what's wrong and a cost estimate. Then arranging for a rental car and even more fun. Have to go get ready for work and wait for the taxi now, but wanted to check in. I'll check in again again tonight.

Copies of Cool Runnings and A Beautiful Mind from Netflix arrived in my mail yesterday. I have a couple of qualifying books on my Kindle, paper copies of two Pulitzer Prize winning plays (each of which is just over 175 pages) and one Booker winner, and an audiobook of Anansi Boys. I don't know how much of this I will get through, but I always like to have choices.
Oh goodness, jaxnsmom :( sorry to hear about the car trouble! Hope the estimate isn't too bad. Wouldn't it be nice if we could just teleport everywhere then we wouldn't need cars :-)
Jaxnsmom, car trouble is horrible my husbands car needed some work yesterday and my one wheel in the back end needed some repairs this week as well. Luckily you weren't hurt I hope nothing is too wrong with it.Oh and speaking of cars my son has one more safety check on his car and then will have his own car on the road -- time flies
Ok, I am finally here. Our apartment was in the bayou you may have seen on tv a couple weeks back with the Houston flooding. My car learned it is not a boat. But I have new car and we are staying with friends, so I can start contemplating toppler. I will have to see what I have on audio that fits. Books that survived are boxed and in storage.
Good to hear you're ok. I see your priorities are right - not even flooding can stop you! But don't worry if you have things (which of course you will) you need to do other than reading. Do you know if you'll be able to go back (or even want to), or was there too much damage? We'll be thinking of you!
Hi team : ) I thought I was going to sit this one out, but it was driving me batty (short drive, hee hee).
Tejas Janet, it's great to have you on our team. You said something about taking care of a six-year old. Maybe you could read to him.Beth, I'm sorry to hear about your flooding. It sounds like a real mess. I hope you like your new car and that life gets back to something like normal soon.

If he is anything like my six-year old grandson, there is no stopping him long enough to get him to sit down and listen to someone read to him until he is almost dead from exhaustion or sick.
Uh oh, sorry to hear flood damage news, Beth. Glad you are safe. Cherie, my nephew likes to be read to at bedtime. Anything to delay bedtime is a plus in his view. But he is a high energy little guy. He's kind of like a puppy still - in constant motion or else crashed out!
**Excitedly waving to TJ**Jmom, sorry to hear about your car, that sucks! Considering it couldn't even be pushed, it sounds really bad. You should contact your insurance agent or even the local DOT to see if its possible the DOT would be responsible for repairs since it was a pothole that caused the problem.
My husband hit a pothole once and broke... something, I can't remember exactly what right now! Our insurance paid for the repairs but I really thought it should've been paid for by whoever was responsible for the upkeep of the road.
@Beth, I'm so sorry to hear about the flooding!
I've requested
on audio from the library, in case I have time to fit in another book :) it is part of a series that the show Bones is based off of. I find the show to be quite different though and was honestly disappointed at first but now I really like the show :-)

I watch the show Bones and got halfway through the first book and was having a hard time separating the show and the books. I have that book on a hold shelf and will definitely pick it up again someday
Isn't it strange how different the books are from the show? When reading the books, I have a hard time picturing Emily Deschanel as Tempe, even though I think she is great in the show :-)
I just realized a little while ago that the toppler starts this weekend! Wow, where did the time go?I think I have decided to read No Hope for Gomez! which fits the humor category.
I will listen to The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time which is a winner of the Alex Award.

Is he in the books?
Me too! Tempe has a partner in the books named Andrew Ryan. I'm not sure if Booth is supposed to be him because they are pretty different, at least in the books I have read :) I do picture Booth when I'm reading though :) love David Boreanaz :-)
I have some options now. I want to find more audio choices (only one now), and will continue looking.Another Man's Moccasins - 2009 Spur Award (Western)
Murder Strikes a Pose - 2014 Agatha Award Nominee (mystery)
The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt - 2012 ALA Alex Award
Toby's Room - 2013 Walter Scott Prize Nominee
- Beautiful animal
Thanks for the warm welcome! *waving back*Hope I'm correct in thinking we have a lot of leeway this toppler in picking our books independently of each other? Still not sure what my schedule will be like next week. But here are at least a handful of books I know I have on hand to work with.
Gilead - Pulitzer prize for fiction 2005
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - humorour book (could read aloud with my nephew)
Sous Chef: 24 Hours on the Line - food book
Charlie is perfect since it's just over the page minimum. I have a really short one too, The Dog Who Healed a Family: And Other True Animal Stories That Warm the Heart & Touch the Soul.
I'm at my sister's home to start the Toppler. Going to read Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express for my first book and kill the challenge at the same time. See you all at noon EST.
Hubby decided he wanted to go grocery shopping so we are running there and then off for home to read :-)
I was having a bbq when toppler started. We're finished, I'm going to take a shower and get started with Forrest Gump.
Wow! I just realized Forrest Gump is the first in a trilogy! I had no idea. I picked it because it has been on my real life book shelves for a long time. Nice bonus that it will give me some series challenge points too :D
I will report back once I've read it. I've seen the movie too, many many years ago, but I remember hardly anything.
I've started 3 books:Ancillary Justice as an audiobook
Caught as an ebook
Mrs. Dalloway as a paper book

Would love to hear your thoughts on Ancillary Justice. Check out the buddy read thread for what we thought. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
