Pretty good, Cynthia. Howzabout you? Listening to anything good?

We're in the midst of the whole college application process with my son. He's been accepted at four colleges and has no idea where he wants to go. He's going into mechanical engineering. My wife is angsting out about the whole thing. I'm sure you feel my pain. Thank God for the grape and the grain.

message 261: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Woo Hoo! Nice that he has choices. Have you visited? The cow college down the road has a pretty good engineering school. Where is he leaning? My Madeline had no idea either. We spent a ton on college visits and she ended up at Agnes Scott. Originally loved Goucher, but it offered her no $ for scholarship, and Agnes Scott just felt great the minute we stepped on campus. My youngest has visited a ton of colleges, did not have the grades to get into all of them, so yes, it is an experience. Pain yes, but what a nice problem to have. It's good to have choices. Cheers.

message 262: by [deleted user] (new)

Much to my chagrin, he's leaning toward the University of Michigan.

message 263: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Ann Arbor? He could do a lot worse.

I'm a Michigan State grad. That's enemy territory.

message 265: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Where is Michigan State? Whatever, they are both good schools. Let it go.

message 266: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 25, 2014 04:34AM) (new)

MSU is in East Lansing.

I've tried. I can't let it go. I can't remember when I've ever delighted in someone else's misery so much as I have recently with that of the typical University of Michigan football fan.

It wasn’t just that Michigan always used to win. It was everything that came with it – the petty barbs, the condescending remarks, the general sense of superiority from a fan base that derived a disproportionate amount of self-esteem from the success of their football team. I didn’t care so much that they kept winning as much as they were assholes about it.

Here's to another few decades of losing football in Ann Arbor.

Where's Jim? He'd understand.

message 267: by Youndyc (new)

Youndyc | 1255 comments I understand completely. It thrills me to no end to see the Gators doing poorly - not because I really care, but just because their fans have always been so obnoxious.

I'm an admin assistant at a nursing home full time and an at home fitness coach and now younique presenter part time. I like reading, baking, movies, obstacle course races (like Mud Hero)

AER | 3 comments Hello,
I'm Andrea. I live in the south of Germany. I know I've been a (inactive) member for quite some time now, but I just got back to Goodreads and I thought it would be a good idea to start getting activce in this group :)
I'm a student at the moment, but I'm (hopefully) gonna be finished in October. I study business administration with emphasis on the food industry (for me, especially the tea/herbs/spices industry).
I love reading in general. At the moment, I read many business/food books (duh...), but in my free time I like the fantasy/horror genre, especially books from Terry Pratchett.

I'm excited to meet new people here = )

Lobstergirl, I will make sure to tell her the next time I see her ;) I think the massages of her new best friend Erdogan are at least as relaxing as those of Bush.

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments This is such a great group. You can say any liberal thing here and be accepted. If you disagree with the majority, it doesn't matter; you will still be liked. NOT. Liberals love everybody and reject no one - unless you disagree with them ; then they're not so nice - pretty mean, actually

Megan Burnett (megonapage) | 2 comments Hello, all.
I'm Meg, and I'm trying to get out there in the wide world again and be a little more social. Your group looked interesting and friendly, so I was glad to find it.

I work in a public library in the Reference Department and, for the most part, I love it. I'm currently prepping for NANOWRIMO and have a few ideas of what I'll be writing, so I'm pretty excited.

I look forward to joining in the fun around here. :)

Jude (ohsplendor) Hello everyone, very nice to meet you all.
My name is Jude. I am a university student in the states. I’ve been a Goodreads member for some time now, but have never been able to put myself out there to join a group. A few months ago I fell in love with a non-review that led me to this group. I hope to chat here with the lot of you soon!

I read books, watch films( not really blockbusters) and listen to music - also I really like to chat about those.

I hope we can get on well :)

Btw English is not my first language - so please forgive me any mistakes. I will try my best.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) Hello there! I may have introduced myself already, but I'm trying to become more active. :) My name is Maggie, and I'm a librarian mom of two from Muskoka. I have loved books for as long as I can remember, and my day just isn't complete without reading a chapter or three! Besides devouring a good book, my hobbies include singing, hiking, writing, and baking. I don't have a favourite genre, but I do tend to finish novels with some family drama quicker. ;) I look forward to making new friends and getting some excellent recommendations.

Beth Hochuli | 1 comments Hello! Nice to meet some like-minded people!

My name is Bethany but most people call me Beth. I am a recent high school graduate set to start university in March. While I've been on good reads for a while now I thought it the best time to finally meet some new people who share the same love of books!

Some things about me:

I am a major Doctor Who fan! I am currently reading pride and prejudice. Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. I hope to study Environmental change at UoA this year. The longest book I've read (well started to anyway) is The Memoirs of Cleopatra (its 1139 pages long!)

Can't wait to get to know everyone some more!

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) (mysteriesandmayhem) Hello! I'm Theresa and I call Columbus, Ohio my home. I've been scrolling through your group threads trying to get a feel for what this is like. I get the impression I won't truly know until I join. So here I am.

My first "grownup" job was as a circulation clerk in a little county library in southern Ohio. I loved it! Now I do marketing and help a little team of commercial real estate brokers live their best lives. I'm like their Girl Friday.

Books - my tastes are all over the place, but I think I settle on horror and suspense more often than anything else. But to prove my "all over the place" statement, I'm currently reading To Keep the Sun Alive and I absolutely love it.

I hope I haven't bored anyone to tears. I don't live a very exciting life, really. I'm happiest at home with a book in my hand and a cat in my lap.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to getting to know some of you better!

message 299: by Kari (new)

Kari Thorsdottir | 2 comments Hi All! I'm Kari (that's my pen name...I have self-published exactly one novel, which I expect to by my only-ever book!).

I live in Chicago, IL with my husband and awesome dog.

My reading tastes have evolved over my life: originally mysteries/thrillers (Robert Crais, Peter Robinson are faves). But then I moved to true crime (Michelle MacNamara, Ann Rule, and the requisites "Helter Skelter" and "In Cold Blood").

While I still enjoy those genres, I've added some memoirs and coming-of-age books to my list. Currently reading "The Vibrant Years".

I recently waded into the BookTok community despite being a woman of a certain age. It's very entertaining, but you see the same books reviewed again and again. I'm hoping to learn about some different book recs on this group.

Hi Kari!

It has been quiet in here for a few years, but this used to really be a hopping place. I think you'll find if you contribute others will wake up.

I hadn't read any Robert Crais until last month, when I read the first three Elvis Cole books. I like them so far - they remind me just a bit of my old favorites (Spenser books) from Robert B Parker.

My wife grew up in Chicago - south suburbs. Most people we meet lived/live in slightly more upscale neighborhoods. :)

Welcome to TerminalCoffee.
