✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I am terrible for downloading more free kindle books so I'm going to challenge myself to read a significant proportion of those books (although I can buy more as I go). I quite literally have hundreds so I'm going to start with aiming to finish 50, and update it if it looks like I'm doing well. I'll add the first set of books in later on today.

Wow - all the best to you! I'd be too scared to follow that challenge, I was rather too unrestrained with freebie downloading in my early days of kindle and don't think I would be able to catch up with them in my life time....

;0)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Hehe. I can't remember which I paid for and which I got free and I am much too lazy to look. I have stopped getting so many freebies and books in general until I have read at least a few of the ones waiting:)

Good luck.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Thanks! I've got one more exam in an hour and then I'll go through my Kindle this evening. I split my books on my kindle into free, others, non-fiction, myths, childrens and academic and the free one is by far the largest. I think if I can make a good crack at the list I'll feel better, not sure if I'll ever finish it though!! Some of the books are really awful but they were free so it's fine! I'm just determined to finish the books, not give up halfway through.

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Oops. I broke my own damn rule and started before you said Lets go.

SORRY!!!

If you want we can delete the above?!??!

message 12: by ✿Claire✿ (last edited Jan 25, 2013 05:14AM) (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments No, don't worry about it :) Thanks for the encouragement :)

message 13: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I don't really have any freebies on my Kindle any more apart from ones belonging to other people. I mostly deleted them so I could pay attention to my paid books!

message 14: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Hehe

I finally managed to sort into categories but got bored with it and gave up. Now I have them sorted into alpha order and my plan is to actually read them in some semblence of the order on my TBR list.

I have read some great free books, but then again some less than great however that applies right across the board. There are some awful trad pubbed and paid for self pubbed too.

message 15: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I have a few collections - Dippers, Harry Potter, Series, Stand Alone & Fic. Pretty self explanatory.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12595 comments Good luck, although I think you are brave being determined to finish them, and not give up if they are awful

Yeah, but we can giggle over the reviews!!!

Oh dear! I've just let slip my secret hobby! I love reading 1* reviews, often the reviewer is REALLY mad and flips out completely. Sooooo funny!!!

message 20: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Me too DD!!!

message 21: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I have a load of freebies too, but I'm aiming to read most of my paid for books first before I start reading the free ones

Nice to find my secret shame is shared by others!!! ;-P

Some of the 50 shades ones are HYSTERICAL!!!

message 23: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Maybe I should add another rule that I have to review all of them - I usually forget or don't have time to review them unless they were really good or really bad :)

message 24: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I really do love reading the PNR ones, especially if they are kinda bad but you love them anyway - some people really, really dig into those!

And Claire, don't make reading a chore! Remember too many books, too little time - don't be forcing yourself to read a bad book. I don't think anyone should do that (it reminds me too much of studying :P)

message 25: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Oh don't worry, I won't. I love reading and often don't make enough time for it. I've also found that some books I struggle with to start with are actually quite good when I get into them. And vice versa!

As for studying, I do enough of that at the moment!! :)

message 26: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I think I'll start with DEAD ish by Naomi Kramer as it's one of the first free Kindle books I came across. I'll start it tomorrow when I've finished my current book.

message 27: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Woop!

message 28: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I will do. If anybody's read any of them and can recommend them feel free and I'll read them next :)

I've finished the first book - it was only about 30 pages long I think so it didn't take much time at all!

message 29: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments The Mummy Case (Jim Knighthorse, #2) by J.R. Rain is next, there are a few I want to read but I'm waiting for February and the other challenges I'm doing then :)

message 30: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think I have that Dead ish one

message 31: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Just read it! I don't recommend it...

message 32: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Finished The Mummy Case (Jim Knighthorse, #2) by J.R. Rain - it was ok but nothing spectacular. So - Cut, Crop & Die (Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-n-Craft Mystery, #2) by Joanna Campbell Slan is next.
By the way, I don't normally speed through books like I have done today but I'm making up for the last few weeks and making the most of having a day where there's nothing I really need to do (except tidy but that can wait 'til tomorrow :) )

message 33: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Finished Cut, Crop & Die (Kiki Lowenstein Scrap-n-Craft Mystery, #2) by Joanna Campbell Slan , definitely worth reading. And you don't need to have read the first one, I hadn't. I described it to my Mum as a 'woman's murder mystery' as opposed to the dark thriller type ones.

Now.... what shall I read next? :)

message 34: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Start at the top and work down, or start at the bottom and work up:)

message 35: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I'm reading Safe Heart next - another mini challenge for this week is to read as many books with blue covers as possible :-)

message 36: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Good that you found some gems :)

message 37: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Safeheart is good so far but it's taking a while to read!

message 38: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I'll update this properly tomorrow but I've just finished Safe heart. The book was great but my version appears to be corrupted as it's messing up my Kindle!!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Messing it up how, Claire?

message 40: by ✿Claire✿ (last edited Feb 05, 2013 01:47AM) (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments It kept freezing when I reached a certain point in the story and appears to have rearranged my collections list so that the most recent one (and actually the most recent book read in the collection) is at the end! I've taken the book off now so I'm hoping that might have solved it.

Edit: It hasn't solved it.

message 41: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Funny you should say that, I was just reading on the KDP forum a post from an author who said their book was causing this to happen. Apparently about 305 or so in it would freeze up. A couple of people had mentioned it. Wonder if it is the same book.

Have you reported it too Amazon?

message 42: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments Gosh - that happened to me too, but it was a different book. I think it might even have been the Salmagundi, actually!

message 43: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Not yet, it's on my list of things to do today!

message 44: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Head Over Heels by Sara Downing is next - I need to read some pink books this week!

message 45: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Adam wrote: "You choose your books by colour?"

It's as good a method as any!

message 46: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments One of the groups I'm part of is doing a cover colour challenge

message 47: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I think it's sorted now, I needed a couple of software updates to sort it!

message 48: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Claire wrote: "Head Over Heels by Sara Downing is next - I need to read some pink books this week!"

How do you choose if you have a black & white Kindle?
("For those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the green...")

message 49: by A.L. (new)

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments Yay. I have heard of an author who found out her book was corrupted somehow and had to reupload it.

I use GR or Amazon to see the book cover, I don't always necessarily pick the Kindle version if the design isn't really there for it.
