Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Claire, it's not specific to a certain book, it's just a Kindle problem - like a computer problem - it fixes itself 99% of the time.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Struggling with Head over heels at the moment - very slow going. Might start another one to read alongside.

A.L. Butcher (alb2012) | 1608 comments I was looking through my kindle list thinking I don't remember downloading all these. Still there they are:)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I haven't read any more off this list yet as I'm working my way through red covered books but I've read some more of my free kindle books:
RED TIDE by Peg Brantley (****), Poisoning Sylvie by Christina Westover (*), Dear Coca Cola by Terry Ravenscroft (***).

I've also read Hyde (Hyde, #1) by Lauren Stewart which, while it wasn't free, was a really good read and I can definitely recommend it!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I'll be back on this list next week for some purple books but in the meantime I've read a few other books off my kindle and also Mad Science Institute by Sechin Tower .

I'm currently reading Death by Cake (The Lost Secret, #1) by Melanie Ray , up to chapter 3 and so far it's terrible!!

message 56: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Death by cake didn't improve. Back to my list now :)

That's what I thought when I read the title but it wasn't anything like I expected, or like the blurb suggested!

That is so disappointing!!! Oh well; on ward and upward as my Granddad used to say! ;-P

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments So, having had a really slow February reading wise as everything else took over, I'm going to start one of the Witchy ones, not sure which one yet, see which one comes up first :)

message 61: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments One of the HP Mallory ones probably :)

message 62: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I dislike her writing style!

message 63: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Well that's four read in the last 2 weeks :) Making the Cat Laugh by Lynne Truss , Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins, #1) by H.P. Mallory , The Orlando File A Genetic Conspiracy Thriller Top 10 Medical Thriller - ebook Review (A fast paced thriller for fans of James Patterson and Tom Clancy) by Ian C.P. Irvine and Walking Through Glass by Isabelle Goddard .

message 64: by Cherrelle (new)

Cherrelle Smith (spoonary) I think it's time for an updated list? How many have you got left, Claire? Are you keeping track of numbers anywhere?

Anyhow, good luck!

message 65: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I'm updating the two posts at the beginning (posts 7 and 8) but I've read 9 of 51 so far. But that's just the first 51 :) When I get to 10, I'll post another post on all the ones I've read so far.

message 66: by Cherrelle (new)

Cherrelle Smith (spoonary) Okie dokie! Thanks for the info. I probably should open my eyes before asking questions ;)

message 67: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments To Kill A Warlock (Dulcie O'Neil, #1) by H.P. Mallory is next :)

message 68: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Finished To Kill A Warlock (Dulcie O'Neil, #1) by H.P. Mallory - really good although I preferred Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble (Jolie Wilkins, #1) by H.P. Mallory , definitely going to keep a look out for more of her books.

message 69: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Reading Emails from Ireland by Johann Wentzel now.

message 70: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Ok, Emails from Ireland by Johann Wentzel is terrible so far, I'm 15% in. So it's going on my 'read a little bit at a time' book and I'm going to read Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law, #1) by Jana Deleon instead.

message 71: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've started reading Uptown Girl by Olivia Goldsmith for another challenge so Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law, #1) by Jana Deleon has taken a bit of a back seat for a cuople of days. I know, I'm indecisive!! Uptown Girl by Olivia Goldsmith is surprisingly good so far, I never used to read romances but since I joined GR (and found the free books!) I've been reading a lot more and I enjoy them.

I also have some library books I need to get read so I can return them so my Kindle will have to take a side step for a couple of days while I power through them!

message 72: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Finished Uptown Girl by Olivia Goldsmith , really good actually, it never used to be my sort of book but I enjoyed it.

message 73: by R.M.F. (new)

R.M.F. Brown | 2124 comments So what's your overall impression of freebie/self-published books? Do we still need the traditional 'gatekeepers' of the mainstream publishing world to separate the wheat from the chaff? I love clichés :)

message 74: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think next year I'll go through my freebie list and clear it out a little. I'll have to be brutal though

So far, it's mixed, there have been some really good books that I've found from the freebies I've downloaded but a lot of those have also been published in paperback and were just free for a short time as a promotion. Some of the books have been terrible, some have been great and some have been in the middle, the sort that, I think, with some help, would be a really good author.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "I think next year I'll go through my freebie list and clear it out a little. I'll have to be brutal though"

I currently have 819 books on my 'freebie' unread list, plus several paperbacks I've bought to read, plus the kindle books I actually paid for, and the ones I downloaded free yesterday but haven't added to the collection yet! Think it's gonna take a while to get through the list!

On the other hand though, I did remove from my kindle 100 free books that I'd read in the last year or so. (I was an final year undergrad so didn't have a massive amount of time for reading in the first half of last year!)

Definitely recommend it, if you like romances!!

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Just finished Trouble in Mudbug (Ghost-in-Law, #1) by Jana Deleon - very amusing crime story, definitely want to try and find the next in the series.

message 81: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Something a little bit different next - The Circle of Sorcerers (Mages of Bloodmyr, #1) by Brian Kittrell

message 82: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Go Claire!

message 83: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Thanks! I'm really enjoying this challenge :)

message 84: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments The Circle of Sorcerers (Mages of Bloodmyr, #1) by Brian Kittrell was ok, went a bit wobbly in the middle, don't think I'll bother with the next one in the series.

message 85: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Reading Seven Days From Sunday by M.H. Sargent at the moment along with a couple of other books on my kindle that I haven't included in this challenge. Think I might update it with a few more later as well!

message 86: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments . Seven Days From Sunday by M.H. Sargent was really really good, definitely a book worth reading if that sort of genre interests you. I'd like to read the next one if I can get my hands on it although I do worry if that would spoil it a bit!

Not sure what's next... any suggestions?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Eep.

No idea which books in my archive were free or not!

message 88: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think you should go for 4, 24, 25, 26 & 27 It's technically 5 in a oner

message 89: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've just read The Island Part 1 (Fallen Earth #1) by Michael Stark , the first part. I was surprised how good it was, I wasn't expecting to be so eager to read the next one!

message 90: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (insomniacreads) | 6 comments I think I've got about 90 books on my Kindle and I'm pretty sure I've only read about 6 of them. Current Kindle read is 'Just Evil' which I'm sure was a freebie

message 91: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've just read The Island Part Two by Michael Stark , definitely getting a paranormal twist. I quite like the fact that it is just unrealistic enough to prevent me from panicking. As a scientist, I know far too much about what could happen to not get scared by plague type books!

I've decided to create a 'gave up' list - not sure where to put it yet but it currently has Utter Folly by Paul Bassett Davies and Head Over Heels by Sara Downing on it!

message 92: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments Oh dear, still best not to waste time on books you don't like. Onward and upward!!!

message 93: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Definitely! I think I'll update and add some more books to the list over the next few days so I still have plenty of variety to choose from :)

message 94: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments That's a good idea, sometimes you're just not in the mood for a certain genre and you need to change things up with something different.

message 95: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments A lot of what's left are the ones that haven't appealed to me at the times I've been choosing a new book so I'll mix it up and try and pick some good ones to add.

message 96: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I just compared my books to yours and there's a few you haven't read that I have given 4-5 stars for that I know have been free at some point.
So I'm going to randomly suggest Clovenhoof, Maureen and Flux. Such different books that a lot of people here have loved.

message 97: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Thanks Joo :) i'll have a look at them :)

message 98: by ✿Claire✿ (last edited Jan 30, 2014 12:30PM) (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Read Glimpse (Zellie Wells, #1) by Stacey Wallace Benefiel and The Ultimate Inferior Beings by Mark Roman both good but the second one was a bit weird!!

Going to read The Vampire Hunter's Daughter (The Vampire Hunter's Daughter #1) by Jennifer Malone Wright tonight (it's only 19 pages supposedly) and start The Case of the Flashing Fashion Queen (A Dix Dodd Mystery #1) by Norah Wilson
