Darla Check this out. Might try the Dune game, or the Don Quixote game . . .

Tiredstars The Dune game is meant to be good, a vaguely Diplomacy-like game of alliances and balance of power. The Bene Gesserit player can win by predicting the result of the game, so they have to work towards that outcome without giving away their intentions.
It's long out of print, though I have heard someone's remaking it without the Dune setting.

Kasey Jane Has anyone played Arkham Horror?

Rather than one book, the Arkham Horror game and expansions reference H.P. Lovecraft's entire oeuvre. You don't really need to read him to enjoy the games, but playing them inspired me to read through his short stories. They are also super fun.

I also have the A Game of Thrones card game. I have not read the books, but the game is aggravating to play.

M American Psycho would be a good board game

Tiredstars The Game of Thrones board game isn't bad, although it could do with stronger incentives to maintain alliances.

I've heard that for Arkham Horror, however much space you have to play the game, it's never enough. Which sounds quite appropriate.

Bobby Bermea Eye of Cat by Roger Zelazny.

Will DERYNI RISING resembles a computer adventure game. (Gather the needed objects, figure out how to use them by the looming deadline.)

There are a lot of books that would make pretty good board games. I can see When Worlds Collide by Phillip Wylie and Edwin Balmer. It is an old sci-fi story about the end of the world. But I can see each player controlling a faction, trying to build a rocket that will allow them to escape while gathering resources and fighting off the hordes attacking them. Obviously there would be a time/turn limit as the end of the world approaches. It almost makes me want to start a game company just to make it.

Gregory Rothbard What about Terry Pratchet's world

Bobby Bermea Ooooh, Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. That would make a GREAT game!

Discworld game would be most excellent!

Alexandra Yes, I've played "Dune" and love it. The players aren't equal, each faction has different strengths and abilities. But they are evenly balanced & demand skilful play - just like you need to survive on Dune...

Arkham Horror is great & easily my favorite game! Its a co-op game. The first expansion I recommend also. If you buy the other expansions keep them separate-If you don't it breaks the game.

Yes Arkham horror is a great game. There is another one (a tile based game) called mansions of madness. It plays quicker than Arkham horror but it has a long set up time.

What do you mean by "making a playable copy"?

By "making a playable copy" I mean to say that since Avalon HIll (the makers of the game) is no longer and the company that bought A.H. and all its games won't do a Reissue of the game you could make a copy or Replacement of the necessary materials used to play the game.
I have the Original Game but I want to conserve it alone with my DUNE collection.

Felix "Betrayal At House On The Hill," this is a super fun & easy tile game!
Barry Hugart's " Master Li universe," would make a super fun game.....

But surely it was written well before most computer games? I think the most sophisticated game around when I was reading this was Pong!
