I was looking at the photos and CR has such a history, I wish I knew about Goodreads years ago, and joined CR then. I’ve also been looking at CR’s past reads and you guys have read some good stuff. I’ve also added a lot of the films to my Netflix queue that folks have mentioned here. I have a lot of catching up to do. :-) ~ Marie

Marie, have you seen our really old archives?

Sherry wrote: "Marie, have you seen our really old archives?"WOW, Sherry – I got really excited looking through the archive (I’ve only read a handful of the books, and I was thrilled to see The Master and Margarita). I saw a lot of books I’ve always wanted to read – and you all have read such a broad range of books, and that’s what I strive for. But then I got really depressed; the list shows how far behind I am in my reading.

Keep reading, you will forever be adding new books to read. What I like about GR and the Constant Reader group, you can usually find someone to discuss the book with.

When hubby first got his pilot's license Mile Square was a little airport -- I've flown in there with him in the old days. Now that he's flying again after a couple of decades off, I am not brave enough to be a passenger. We have also visited the place since it became a park.
Wasn't Mile Square Park a Marine helicopter base. I remember there was a huge crash of six copters in the sixties. We heard the crash and seen all the black smoke. I think Meadowlark used to be a small airport located in Huntington Beach . Now it is a golf course. Where Cenntinenial Park is , used to be military , also.

Now I let jim have the airplane scene to himself and I do my own thing -- mostly books at the moment.
I remember visiting Mile Square Park in the 1970s and listening to speeches vehemently denouncing the Vietnam War.Marge

Robert wrote: "I'm also from Orange County -- born and raised in Santa Ana, living now in Cypress. Welcome!"Thanks, Robert - I’m near South Coast Plaza. My family used to live on LTA military base. I was bussed to school in Irvine, went to church in Tustin (St. Cecilia), and my family went to the commissary on El Toro base. And I've walked Miles Square Park many a time. :)
I am the bad combination of an avid reader with no time for it ! Between work-related reading and life I love squeezing in a great book. My friend and YA author, Michelle Krys, has challenged me to read 10 YA novels of her choice to try to suck me into the genre !
Hi, I'm Dianne. I live in Edmonton Alberta. I really enjoy reading I had to join a book club just to take a break from the normal genre I tend to keep myself enclosed in. I'm presently reading a young adult series by Andrea Cremer.
Hello I'm Lee. I live in South West England in a triangular house with my cat (see photo) and my husband. I am addicted to reading and acquiring books and don't believe I will ever manage to read all the books I own. Apart from reading, I enjoy swimming, travelling by Tandem bike and drinking rose scented tea. I own, but never play, a ukelele
Looking at the books you have read I could see a good few that are on my to read shelf and a good few others to be added to my to read shelf!
Looking forward to joining in with your discussions.

Welcome, Lee! I'm a great fan of your country. I hope you are able to participate in our discussions and introduce a few of your own.

Hello I'm Sophie. I'm from Wales in the UK and love finding, buying and reading books! I have always been an avid reader (and have the English Lit degree to prove it:)) but have had a few months off due to totally losing my concentrating skills whilst pregnant. Now it's coming back I want to dive back in to reading but need a little guidance with where to start.
I am currently doing a re-read of Catch-22 to get myself back in the swing with a favourite novel. This is my first time posting on Goodreads despite being a member for a while so am excited to join in discussions with everyone and maybe get a few recommendations along the way!

Welcome to Constant Reader, Sophie. You'll get recommendations galore here. I hope you can take part in the discussions.
Soph,You will find our recent Catch-22 discussion if you click on the Classics Corner thread here on Constant Reader. This is the direct link:

The discussions are never really closed and we would love your input. This seems like such a quintessentially American novel. Since you are Welsh, I am particularly interested in what appeals to you about this book.

If you are so close, we should definitely have a meetup soon!
Ruth wrote: "She's back!"Hello again Sherry, Ann and Ruth! Oh how I have missed this wonderful group! I'm finally getting a chance to do some real reading for pleasure again. Headed out to Denver, Colorado, later this week and would love some recommendations for books on CD that I could listen to along the way - entertaining, compelling stories, but nothing that requires too much serious attention.

Two audiobooks I really enjoyed recently are The Good House and Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead.
Thanks, Sherry! I'll take a look at these... headed over to the library to see what they have available.
Hi All - This group was "featured" today on Goodreads. I liked the name, clicked through saw Trollope was on the menu and that the administrator referred to herself as "the doyenne" so I'm in! I stutter these days when asked for a little about myself because I just published a book that was five years in the making (actually, a lifetime if you count the prep time), but my day job is as an attorney and I have two half grown kids, so take your pick. I live in Vermont and love it here. I am a picky reader - towering genius preferred - but I am also a good and loyal admirer of those things that merit admiration.
Welcome, K. I hadn't seen that CR was featured. Thanks for the heads-up. I hope you take part in the discussions, even though you seem like a very busy person.
Hi there. I've just recently joined goodreads and was looking for a club. Been wanting to read The Elegance of the Hedgehog, so now I have motivation. I am an English teacher. College level. I am also a writer in what spare time I have. I have published a short story and won some awards for a play (all years ago in my previous life). Getting back to writing now that my child is grown and practically gone. I live in Cleveland, Ohio. Not a bad city if you know where to go and what to do. Looking forward to reading and discussing.
