Welcome to new people here. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi! I'm Maya. I like writing, reading, acting, listening to music. I'm not a writer yet, though I wish to be one eventually. I don't have any published works yet, but I definitely want to have some books out in the future.
hello everyone :)i'm morana and i'm from croatia. my favourite thing in the world are books and my dream job is to work (or own:)) in a bookstore. :)
greetings!
(this is my all-time favourite book). i adore russian classics.
Welcome, Morana! I visited in your capital city, Zagreb, just this past summer and want to go back to your beautiful country.
Hi! I'm Ann. Hope it's OK to pick and choose because I will only be able to participate intermittently. I joined the group because the selections map well to the books I'm planning to read this year. I am in library school at present and aim for an academic career.
Welcome to Constant Reader, Ann. You are definitely allowed to pick and choose. We don't require homework!
Welcome, Ann! I don't think anyone here reads everything on every list. Just participate where you can. We're glad to have you.
Hi Morana,My grandparents immigrated to the United States from what is now Croatia.
I really like the Russian classics too, but it has been a long time since I have read them.
Hello everyone,I've been on Good Reads since 2007 but haven't participated in the forums much before.
Last year was an "off" year in reading for me. Perhaps it was me, or perhaps it was the books I chose, but for some reason my response to what I read seemed muted. I ended up re-reading some favorite books in hopes of recapturing some excitement with only modest success.
I stumbled on a thread in this forum on favorites from 2012 and was intrigued. Maybe the answer for my reading doldrums is here.
One can but hope.
Welcome, Kay. I'm sure you'll find some fabulous reads on Constant Reader. I "stumbled" onto Constant Reader on Prodigy in 1995 and have never stumbled off.
I sometimes have "off" times in my reading as well, Kay, but lately have been more engaged. Hope you'll find what you're looking for here.
I haven't had an off year reading since I too came upon Constant Reader, Kay. We're glad you're here.
Thanks, everyone. I've already made note of a half dozen or so promising titles mentioned in other threads. The scheduled reading looks interesting, too. (I've already read The Destiny of the Republic and enjoyed it.)
Hi everyone,This is my first day here! :)
I grew up in southern China, with my nose always in my parents' library... I read a lot of Chinese classic literature and translated Western literature (mostly Russian, French, ancient Greek and a bit of American). After moving to the U.S. when I was a teenager, I maintained ties with the Chinese culture and language by continuing to read and write Chinese fiction.
My biggest motivation for joining goodreads is... I'd like to be a better storyteller in English! Part of this process involves reading more modern English literature with voices similar to mine when I write in Chinese. English prose has not come to me with an ideal "flow" as easily as Chinese prose does.
I'd love to hear your suggestions on interesting books that may help or groups I can join!
I'm also a singer/songwriter looking to write better lyrics by getting into modern poetry. Here's my question in more details: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
Thanks to Carol for reminding me to introduce myself!
Really excited to join everyone here, take care and talk to you soon :)
Hello to all Constant Reader members. I recently joined Good Reads and this group and look forward to following all the interesting threads. I have already read and enjoyed The Destiny of a Republic as well as River of Doubt so I will be following the discussion with interest. I'm a retired teacher who never had as much time as I wanted for reading so now I truly am a "constant reader."
Glad you found us, Diane. I am a teacher who is going to retire in a year and a half. One of the things I look forward to most is more time to read.
My name is Elizabeth and I'm 24 years old. I live in Kentucky (Louisville, to be precise). I have a BA in psychology and did two minors in English with a concentration in literature and Medieval Studies. I studied French for 5 years and have experience with Japanese, German, and Latin. One of my dreams is to translate Medieval Latin and French manuscripts. The other is to eventually become an archaeologist.Currently, I work with toddlers as a teacher in a daycare. It's not exactly my dream job, or the best use of my degree, but it works for now. I am going back to school in August to work towards a degree in education so that I can become a third grade teacher. I also plan on doing another major in either microbiology or anthropology. I do enjoy some aspects of my job such as being able to teach my children and the joy that I receive when they finally catch on to what I've taught them. I also enjoy the smiles, hugs, and kisses that I get from my kids when I come to work in the mornings.
I am an avid reader and have been since I was a child. I generally read anything except westerns, romance, and inspirational/Christian books. I quite enjoy horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and mysteries. I have also gotten into the Quirk classics recently. Right now, I am reading Android Karenina. Classic literature is another favorite of mine with Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, HP Lovecraft, Victor Hugo, and Gaston LeRoux being among my favorites.
I look forward to making new friends and taking part in book discussions.
-Elizabeth
Diane wrote: "Barbara, I hope you will love retirement as much as I do--not that I didn't also enjoy teaching!"I do love teaching, Diane, and couldn't imagine retiring until this year. But, now, it feels very right so I hope that I do love it as much as you do.
I found this group by reading reviews of "The Enchanted April" which I am reading now. I'm looking forward to finding books and joining in discussions. Thank you for providing this forum!
Welcome, Sarah! I loved The Enchanted April. You will definitely find lots of book ideas here and I'm glad that you plan to join in on the discussions.
Welcome, Sarah. The first thing I found of value in this group was a systematic means of keeping track of all those little scraps of paper with authors and titles that I was constantly accumulating from browsing bookstores, libraries, and just about any shelf of books that i might find anywhere. Our older daughter is named Sara. We left off the "h" thinking that there was no limit to what she might accomplish over a lifetime of time saved signing her name. She was actually named after my wife's grandmother, who did use your spelling.
Welcome, Sarah. My daughter is also named Sara without the h. She just joined Goodreads, and I'm hoping she will also show up here on CR some day.
Thanks for all the welcomes! Robert, I agree with you about being able to keep track of all those books we want to read. I downloaded the goodreads app on my iphone so now I can keep track anywhere I go. The app allows you to scan the ISBN code on the back of books too so it's even easier to add books to your shelf.
Sarah wrote: "Thanks for all the welcomes! Robert, I agree with you about being able to keep track of all those books we want to read. In my case, my cell phone has a rotary dial, so it's tough to weigh the difficulty in getting it out of my pocket against the advantage of keeping the scrap of paper until I get to my desktop computer.
Hi, I'm Jan. I'm from Texas and I'm always hunting for new books to read. It seems I've found the perfect place in Constant Reader, since this group exhibits the same voracious appetite for reading that I have, and the discussions are so thoughtful. I really look forward to my daily updates everyday. I hope I can contribute meaningfully to the discussions.
