Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Are we that close to 2013...some team? Wow, that didn't take very long at all!

message 1502: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Well, we are in the lead and averaging about 19 books a day...

message 1503: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Did you and the other moderators think it would be accomplished this quickly when you were in the planning stages of setting up this team challenge Lisa Kay? I'm impressed with the way everyone has committed to this challenge :-)

message 1504: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments At the very beginning, I didn't. However, I knew by the end of January that we were going to be finished by the end of the first quarter.

message 1505: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments It's been a very good challenge. I didn't know I could read so many books for such a length of time. My brain has absorbed and retained a vast number of worlds and insights that I normally wouldn't have had the pleasure of knowing yet :-)

message 1506: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments That's neat, Cathie. ☺

message 1507: by Jane (new)

Jane (janedee) | 322 comments Just noticed that next to my name on the first page of the thread is "name alert". Can someone tell me what that means? I've gone through several pages of threads and can't find anything anywhere.

Just finished a couple of quick reads
Beyond the Highland Mist
and
To Tame A Highland Warrior
Now I'm reading
The Devils Star by Jo Nesbo - funny though it won't come up in the add book line except as a collection.

message 1508: by Nancy (new)

Nancy | 577 comments I finished The Lost Recipe for Happiness by Barbara O'Neal which fits #3 - animal on cover (dog).

I also finished Remember Me (Remember Me, #1) by Christopher Pike which fits #7 - it's the first in the Remember Me series.

Thanks so much Lisa Kay for doing this! All of your hard work is really appreciated! :)

message 1509: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Don't think it counts for any of the mini challenges but I've finished 1,227 QI Facts to Blow Your Socks Off by John Lloyd . There were some amusing facts in there!

message 1510: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments finished reading Eona (Eon, #2) by Alison Goodman , starting Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

message 1511: by Barbara ★ (last edited Mar 19, 2013 02:55PM) (new)

Barbara ★ Finished In the Shadow of Gotham (Simon Ziele, #1) by Stefanie Pintoff (#1) first in series. Not so great though I understand if you liked The Alienist, you'll like this one...sorta the same thing. Though this is much easier to read than that book.

It just means that there is another Jane somewhere in the Tower Teams Reading Challenge. Some people change their avatar or their book goal, so we can't go by either of them. And with over 240 people in this challenge, we've got to keep you all straight.

message 1513: by Jane (new)

Jane (janedee) | 322 comments Okay - thanks for the clarification.

message 1514: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I finished Through Violet Eyes by Stephen Woodworth (#5) which I loved and I'm starting Double Play (Pacific Heat, #1) by Jill Shalvis .

message 1520: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments I've finised The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle and have ten pages left of The Lair Of The White Worm (Read Red) by Bram Stoker

Kind of don't want to leave that time period (late 1800s/early 1900s) but I have modern books that need to be read! :/

Over the weekend I'll have a look over what I've read this month (not very much) and see if anything applies to the March mini challenge.

message 1521: by Kme_17 (new)

Kme_17 | 453 comments just finished The Cradle Robbers by Ayelet Waldman it was a great kinda fluffy mystery. it works for number 3

message 1522: by Kme_17 (new)

Kme_17 | 453 comments just finished Book Lust To Go Recommended Reading for Travelers, Vagabonds, and Dreamers by Nancy Pearl

message 1523: by Dragana (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) And the Miss Ran Away with the Rake (Rhymes with Love, #2) by Elizabeth Boyle
has: windy cover, animal in story, strong female character (3,4,5)
And the Miss Ran Away with the Rake was perfect, just the kind of historical romance novel I love with a sweet love story, slow and intense build-up of emotions and a lot of funny situations along the way.

Now I am reading: Strange Fates by Marlene Perez

message 1524: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 2744 comments finished Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

message 1525: by Christal (new)

Christal | 72 comments Finished Fade to Black (Rojan Dizon, #1) by Francis Knight (#7), In the Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters (#3), A Spear of Summer Grass by Deanna Raybourn (#9)

message 1526: by Jess (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Yesterday my amazing boyfriend bought me The Phantom Of The Opera by Gaston Leroux and The Plague by Albert Camus . I started on The Phantom of the Opera this morning, ahh all the lovely French names :')

The Lair Of The White Worm (Read Red) by Bram Stoker is done as of last night. I'll write a review on it later on but it was hard to enjoy with the intense racism and confusing amount of characters that were supposed to be focussed on in such a short book.

message 1527: by Cathie (new)

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments A Tree Grows in Brooklyn A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith - Section 5 in the Mini Challenge

Fairlee Corkran | 83 comments I just finished Scrapped (Cumberland Creek Series #2) by Mollie Cox Bryan which fits #2 because there is a time travel storyline in it.

message 1531: by Dragana (last edited Mar 22, 2013 03:38PM) (new)

Dragana (diaryofthebookdragon) Finished: Strange Fates by Marlene Perez main hero is luck's son; (1)
I'm kinda dissapointed with this book, I expected much more - and it has such a pretty cover... :/

My next read is: The Holders (Holders, #1) by Julianna Scott .

message 1532: by Melissa (ladybug) (last edited Mar 22, 2013 03:57PM) (new)

Melissa (ladybug) | 1048 comments Have finished Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and Shadow of the Hegemon (Shadow, #2) by Orson Scott Card . They were both really good books. My next book I am working on is Ireland by Frank Delaney

Water for Elephants maybe works for #1 The book is mainly about the Circus and #3 the Elephant Rosie plays a pivotal role and Shadow of the Hegemon works for #5 because of strong female as one of the main characters.

message 1533: by Jess (last edited Mar 22, 2013 07:42PM) (new)

Jess (jesscatt) | 200 comments Books that count for me for the March challenge:

#3 Lion/Lamb: The Dunwich Horror by H.P. Lovecraft (birds on the front cover) and The Lair Of The White Worm (Read Red) by Bram Stoker (snake on the cover, also it is about a giant snake)

Not sure on this one, but possibly The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle for #10 due to the glum-looking weather on the front? Haha, that's probably pushing it :P

♥Robin's♥ March “C Us Win” Challenge

Duration: March 1st through 31st. Any book read since then counts!

1. Luck - All books with “luck” in the title, the series name, or a major theme, count.
2. Time - Time Change (since we do Spring forward an hour on March 10). So, Time
Travel books, or anything with a watch or clock on the cover, count.
3. Lion/Lamb: March is “in like a lion; out like a lamb.” We’ll count books with
an animal on cover, or one where an animal plays a pivotal role in the story-line.
4. Wind: March is usually windy so generally a good time to fly kites. All books with
bright colors, or diamond shapes, or is set in Chicago, (known as “The Windy City”)
    will count.
5. Women’s History Month: All books with a strong female character as a Main
Character or is book about a notable woman in history, count.
6. The Girl Scouts: Founded in March, 1912. So, count books with a character that
bakes, cooks, works with girls, or otherwise deserves a badge. Even a book that
has food that you could make cookies with on cover, as they are known for their
    cookies!
7. First & Third: March used to be the first month of the year! First in a series, or the
    third, will count.
8. Hylad Monath/Hraed Month: The Anglo Saxons used to call March by this
name, which means “stormy month” and “rugged month,” respectively. All books
with stormy/rainy weather on the cover or “rugged” man **sigh** count.
9. Summer Ending/Spring Coming: Some of us are experiencing the End of
Summer (Australia), some seeing the Coming of Spring (America). So, any titles with
“Summer” or “Spring” in them - or any covers that depict signs of them, count.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Please, if you feel a book should be posted for you, put the #reference or the reason why. Unless something pops out at me, I don't know.

Also, sometimes I accidentally put someone's book on someone else's line. Please correct me. Thanks!

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments Finished Lady Luck (Colorado Mountain, #3) by Kristen Ashley (fits task #1)
Not by far as good as first two books in Colorado Mountain series.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Added it, Skandia. ☺

Cathie (catitude) | 999 comments Thanks Lisa Kay :-).

On your next update (probably the final one) can you put in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith for me (section 5 of the challenge) (I posted it before but it must have gotten overlooked).

I have finished The Fall of the House of Usher and Other Tales by Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe. I'm not sure where it fits in...probably doesn't, but it does count for our team, so yeah!! lol
