Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I decided to do location shelves for myself although I don't have many yet and will just do states and countries. I don't like scrolling through so many shelves but I just purged a bunch that I never look at or were redundant.

I'm not a librarian so I guess I can't add locations.

Mary,if you need me to add locations to something, let me know. You can always email me the list and I can update it.

message 103: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments and let's not forget....we can use where the author is from as well for location. We can usually find the information in their profiles.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Dumb question: on level 4 do the states have to be readin alphabetical order. Or can we fill them as we go once we complete the other levels?

message 105: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments you can do the states in any order that you want

No I just listed them that way because it was easier for me.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Great thanks. I don't know if I'll get that far but good to know in case I do.

That's perfectly fine Hina. Here is the link to my shelves - all of my location/settings shelves start with SET IN country (and city for US locations).

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments Just thought you should know Allie Pleiter has an aka. She wrote 2 books under the name of Allie Shaw. I know this because we live in the same town. I've met her personally.

message 111: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I don't know if anyone will see this in time, I was gone all day and didn't check the Kindle Daily Deal until now. But there is are Andrew Pearson and a Barry Eisler books for .99 for Kindle if anyone has a Kindle or the Kindle App.

message 112: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments Could I use a book under Allie Shaw's name? I don't have any of her Allie Pleiter books.

message 113: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Yes Mary!

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Happy New Years All!!! One more hour (my time) and we are officially starting soon yay!!

message 115: by Mary X (last edited Jan 01, 2013 06:03PM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I have a question. I know if we get to level 4 we can take a book from a previous level and read a book to replace it before continuing with level 4. But can we take an author from a previous level and then read a different book from them for the state? (after reading a replacement book for level 1?)

(trying to decide if I should use a Jill Shalvis library ebook that just became available for level 1 or wait to use her for the state of Idaho but a different book)

message 116: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Hi Mary....just want to double check....you don't want to use the same book you are bringing to level 4, but read a different book from the same author (after reading a replacement book for level 1)...did I get it right?

If that's what you want to do, that's fine. As long as the authors are not repeated at any levels...you can do that.

message 117: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Great thanks. I just had an ebook pop up from library hold and it's a RT author. But she also has another book for a difficult state (well 1 that I don't have any other books for anyway). I figured I'd just skip counting this ebook for now if you said no. But now I can count it and get level 1 started and hopefully come across a different Idaho book.

Found this as a freebie today for Kindle.

message 119: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments How's everyone doing? I am almost done with level 1, but I need to do a lot of updating, but my mother had surgery this week and I am so very behind in everything.

Fran | 12285 comments Hina,

I hope your Mom is doing well! Sending good wishes for a speedy recovery :)

Jane (PS) | 24338 comments Best wishes for your mother, Hina :)

Gawd - I haven't even started thinking about this challenge. That might be my challenge today - along with 104F temperatures... :(

message 122: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Thanks Jane and Fran!!!

Jane, 104!! OMG!!! I rather be cold than hot any time, I mean I am happy that it was in the high 40s today! If I was in there in 104, I would not leave my air conditioned room at all!

message 123: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24338 comments It's not too bad yet - only 36.5C (98F). Fingers crossed we avoid the 104F today... (they are predicting these temps until Tuesday :(

And here we are with a forecast of high temps barely getting up to freezing for the next few days - low tonight in the teens (F). I'll take what we have over 104 any day!

I just really took a good look at this challenge for the first time tonight, and discovered I'd already read three authors without even trying. I like it when things like that happen! :)

message 125: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments It's been between 4-20 (F) when I go to work in the morning. I'd take some warmth too but only 75 or 80 would be good. We had a heat wave today. It got up to 50. But it rained so it didn't really feel that warm.

message 126: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Another RT author has a freebie on Amazon. I don't know for how long:

Leopard Moon (Moon, #1) by Jeanette Battista

Makenzie (makenziefay) | 496 comments Hina wrote: "How's everyone doing? I am almost done with level 1, but I need to do a lot of updating, but my mother had surgery this week and I am so very behind in everything."

Hope your mom is doing well, Hina!

I keep looking at this challenge, but all the books I have for my monthly challenge don't fit. But I'll probably get to a number of the Level 1 reads by the end of the month or next. I definitely don't want to put this one off too long. I'd love to be able to finish the whole thing if possible.

message 128: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I've only gotten 1 read for this because they haven't fit into other challenges or my book club.

message 129: by Hina (last edited Jan 15, 2013 07:19AM) (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments I am actually behind on other challenges, because I was reading from this challenge and there wasn't much I could fit into other challenges either.

Thanks Makenzie!

message 134: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments new problem:

90% if the books I need to read will be from the library. Would it be ok to read a book from section 2 before I'm done with 1 due to availability?

message 135: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments Another freebie: this is a pseudonym of Vanessa Kelly, looks like it's set in PA.

Hardball (Philadelphia Patriots, #2) by V.K. Sykes

Sorry Mary, we have to finish the first level before we can read for the second....can you switch books around between the two level....?

message 137: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments no the book is a male author

message 138: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments I'm using the library too and I just held off on requesting the male authors I need until I was closer to gettng to level 2. But my library is usually pretty quick with the inter-library loans and none of them had waiting lits for me. At least not when I last checked.

I should probably go request one soon since I'm expecting to finish level 1 this week.

message 139: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments my problem with that book is it's from one of the popular authors She told me his books are always being checked out.

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Mary wrote: "my problem with that book is it's from one of the popular authors She told me his books are always being checked out."

which one are you looking for? Maybe you can put it in order now and it will arrive during the time you are reading level 2 books. or see if anyone can loan it to you.

message 141: by Mary (new)

Mary (wimew) | 250 comments I guess I'll just read book 2 when I get to it LOL (glad I liked it)

message 142: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments The link to the RT website list of authors no longer works for me on 2 different browsers and 2 different computers.

message 143: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments Mary, are you talking about the pdf file...or the link to the RT website on message 1?

message 144: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments The one that says 2013 Authors Attending. It worked before but not it doesn't.

I've just been using the ones on the other thread that are just listed.

message 145: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments is it working for you now Mary? they could have pulled it down to update authors - they said that they would be doing that periodically

message 146: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 1103 comments No. Everytime I access it on any computer or browser, it crashes my internet. I've been using the one on the challenge thread and hoping it's up to date.

message 147: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 2581 comments I don't know Mary why you are having trouble with it especially if its crashing. I have tried different time and different computers at work and at home and it seems to pull it up for me. So I don't know what's going on? Unless we have someone who is tech savvy. The author list you are accessing are up to date with the pdf so you can use those.

message 148: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12285 comments I just tried the link and it doesn't work. The link posted on the challenge thread and this one is not working any longer.

I will check out RT's website and see if I can find a new link..
