Death Masks (The Dresden Files, #5) by Jim Butcher is so hilarious! If you haven't read this series, you definitely should. Harry is super sarcastically funny. I'm listening to it and keep laughing...I've gotten more than a few strange looks from my children tonight.

message 104: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) I love Dresden! The first story I read was a short story about him & his partner falling in "love" it was hysterical.

message 105: by Lys (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I'd be up for Soulless, since it is the book of the month. We could always pop back to Night Huntress after.
/shrugs
I can go either way.

~Thena~ (athena-nadine) | 184 comments I'm good with whatever you all want to do. :)

message 107: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) I think "Soulless " would be good. That way we kill 2 birds w one completely awesome book;) then we could jump right back into Cat & Bones. I heard that distance makes the heart grow fonder. If I grow any "fonder" of Bones, it would boarder on crazy:) looking forward to Monday .until then Clare bear

I'm sorry I started our own thread. What do y'all want to read chapters/day?

message 112: by Sheri, Bookworm (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sheri | 13547 comments Mod
That's fine, I'll just archive the new thread so we can use the BotM one...maybe more people will join in :)

There are only 14 chapters so I'm assuming they are longer....so do you want to plan on like 3 chapters a day (if I'm figuring right that will be around 75 pages give or take a few).

Book of the month

It was voted on by the whole group. We'll be reading the whole series, one book each month.

message 116: by Lys (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lys (lysrowan) It should be fun. We can pop in one buddy read per month and be like "hi, we overrun your thread now." :D

message 117: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Wait? Are we reading all of the soulless books in a row, or are we going back to cat & bones?

message 118: by Sheri, Bookworm (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sheri | 13547 comments Mod
The whole group voted to read the soulless series together, one book per month...so for now just the first one. The second one will be next month.

message 119: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lys (lysrowan) So on Monday we are starting the second Night Huntress? Or are we breaking for the holidays?

I am now safely arrived. That storm made my trip take forever. But I'll be here for a week. Doing family things and reading. :)

We are going to read Master at Arms. We will start Wednesday. It is less than 200 pages.

~Thena~ (athena-nadine) | 184 comments I was just coming to ask about the second book. :) The kids and I have been sick all week and I wasn't able to be on GR much.

Start the 31st? Or maybe the 2nd?

Sheri and I thought because of the holidays we would read something short next week. We can pick up on the second book the next week. Masters at Arms (Rescue Me, #1) by Kallypso Masters It looks interesting/Hot.

Clare dooley (claredooley) What's going on B.I.A.? I had the beginning of Christmas wonder in the hell hole I grew up in. It still is terrible here. Clare bear stare me home:( tell me something grand, tell me how many things you moderate She-Ra , you to Leigh... & Lys where you at girl? I need some of the group discussion ... Anybody out there?

message 130: by Leigh, ⚔️ Wonder Woman ⚔️ (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leigh | 18513 comments Mod
Clare Bear, I'm sorry it is terrible there. I already received my Christmas present from family and love it. They gave me an Ipad.

Soulless was good but I missed our normal discussion. When we use the main thread instead of our own we have not commented as much as usual. B.I.A. will be dormant until Wednesday.

I hope you have a great Christmas!Think happy thoughts!!

message 131: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Thanks Leigh, I always forget I graduated high school a year early and moved to Philly at 17 for a reason... This place is dismal.. Like so so dismal.. An iPad oh huh that is so exciting! Tell me if you like it I was thinking if getting one but with my kindle & my iPhone I'm not sure i need another device.. But it is tempting . Btw wonder women get this.. I got audibles cause I wanted to be able to use the whisper net, you have to buy the audible and the ebook both! That seems like a crazy rip off. I was so excited to :( so now I have a free credit and I can't decide what to use it on so many books so little time! I'm sorry if I bummed ya out its not that bad I miss my cat, Philly, the usual but I love my family n my sister who's ten months older than me has been amusing. I hope your family has a happy and safe holiday! The B.I.A. Will resume when you said.. Now to make a long note longer , 1. Are we reading the book with the "hi I'm totally a sexy guy on the cover" or something else, there were a couple options thrown out. & 2. What is the free elf book that's being listed on like every thread? Is it the PDF novella or the title listed? I need your super brain.. What is she offering? Best wishes, thanks for the mood boost.. I'll turn off the super depressing music & stop imitating Robert smith from the cure now. Happy holidays. Clare Bear ( in full Clare Bear Stare) totally ridiculous rainbows flying out looking like super magical. Tell me if I should get the iPad -later Leigh ( thanks for being a pal)

Just openned it and already love it!! Now when I receive free books from authors it will go straight to device. Before I had to transfer everything. I can read all my Kindle books on my Ipad before I either had to convert the book or read it on my phone.

You didn't bum me out. You were not your usual happy self. Happy to see rainbows.

We are reading Master at Arms. I started a thread. Do you have the book? It is free at Amazon.

message 133: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Yup got the book, I think when I use the iPhone for goodreads I can't do certain things. I got an acceptance from netgalley, is that like for real? Like arc's? I'm kinda hype about it. So the iPad is that much better? You had a nook correct ?

message 134: by Leigh, ⚔️ Wonder Woman ⚔️ (new) - rated it 5 stars

Leigh | 18513 comments Mod
I keep hearing about Netgallery. It sounds cool. What book did you get? Sherry receives books from there. I think it is ARC books. I have a Nook and the transferring of everything was driving me crazy.

message 135: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) You put in requests for upcoming releases from different publishers and they send you free advance copies to review, sometimes they get backed up but there is alot to pick from, you're way more qualified than me cause of your position on goodreads, it even mentions it on their "application ". I highly recommend it. On your nook when you picked a book it didn't just appear on the device? I just click & read? Transferring from where?

message 136: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Oh, I can't decide what to ask for... I was thinking about the next incarnate book but I've heard it was a good premis but bad follow through so I'm still looking at the options, I just got approved yesterday

That sounds cool. I will have to check it out.

If I purchase a book for m B&N it will show up on my Nook but if I buy a book from some other company or receive one by email I had to transfer it to my Nook. The Ipad I can do everything on it. Love that option.

Which book are thinking about starting? If you are referring to Halfway to the Grave, I loved it. Cat is a Kick-Ass herione and Bones is so Hot. What is not to love. It has plenty of action.

message 141: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Totally agree with Leigh I really had fun with this book & wanted to read the next one & it's actually out! Bonus!! I just started the fey books from I think it's laurel k. Hamilton I'm liking that also. The same author that wrote the Anita Blake books ( I haven't read them)

Hey guys :). I'm out of town until Wednesday sometime so I haven't been on here much. I love Netgalley. I get books from there all the time...it's great!

I hope you love your iPad! I'm like Clare.,,I have my Kindle for reading and my iPod for Internet, so I'm good. Though if I got one as a gift I definitely would love it!!!

Clare- I mod in two groups besides this one, but two of them go together - Making Connections and Making Connections YA. I would post links but I can't from my iPod. The groups are for review books only....check them out if you like writing reviews. I think between the two groups there are over 400 books looking for reviews.

message 143: by Lys (last edited Dec 24, 2012 08:46PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lys (lysrowan) I, too, am out of town. I am spending time with my mother and her son and husband.

I'm sorry to hear that you are miserable Clare Bear! Just think: soon you will be home and reading books with all of us.
My brother keeps me pretty busy, so I haven't been around much. Also, my mom lives in the middle of nowhere, and, I kid you not, pays $10 for every gig of data she uses over the 10 gig limit in a month. So, unless I want to be poor, I don't use the internet a whole bunch while I am here.
I am up for Master of Arms though. I am leaving here on Friday, but it takes two days to get home usually.
Also, I like the individual reading threads (for buddy reads) better as well. I feel more comfortable yammering when it is just us girls.

PS. Clare, I saw you 'requesting' me - even if we aren't paired for pick-it-for-me, we could do our own private one. I'd be up for it, if you wanted. ;)

BIA - I hope you all have a fabulous holiday, and if that holiday is Christmas or starts in fifteen minutes - moreso! Take care of yourselves, esp. if travelling or fighting the blues (poor Clare Bear).
Talk to you all soon. ;)

message 144: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Yes lysterful I thought you might see my request which I knew would be squashed like an ant under the rules but I always am interested in a secret rendezvous w/a member of the B.I.A. So I thought I would "channel that message through super obvious not allowed. ( I read what you wrote Leigh I wasn't trying to pull favor , just send code right out in the open with my super flamboyant rainbow Clare bear stare.. Hey all this jabber about myself which of you ladies used your super powers to master the holidays? I had a counseling session w/ Leigh so I know that her Wonder Woman abilities are rockin, did anyone get through all the holiday crazy & not need to use a bathroom
(Like Cat?) that now Leigh has upped her "tools of the B.I.A. Trade" all James Bond 00Leigh with her iPad yay! I will be in the 'cuse' till mid afternoon on the 26th. Wow that much $ to go over? Yikes!! I'm going to say it again yikes. So umm Sheri love how was your holiday? Let me know how much to read when we start.

message 148: by Clare (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clare dooley (claredooley) Ok I'm sure that there is an actual place that I should do this but I wasn't sure where, before I went and thread bombed everywhere I was reading a book a looooong time ago, after said book ended it had a little sample if another book in the back.
I can neither remember the book I was reading or the book sample title but I do get tormented on a regular basis by my brain to find out what it was, so here goes...
There is 2 girls sitting on a red velvet love seat type deal. They are watching escalator 's & they seem to be in limbo, waiting to find out if they are heading to heaven or to hell possibly? It's described like an airport terminal & some people have been waiting a really long time. I think.. & this is where it gets fuzzier, that one or both may have to go accomplish something before the choice is made?
So that's it. Does this ring any bells for anyone? If not what thread do you go to to ask completely vague questions like that?

Sheri I just saw that message you put about those two other groups! They sound fantastic . When you're not being domestic, reading, or fighting crime I'd like to ask you a few questions about these groups:) hope your day goes well all. I'm going to go back to reading for now:) later
