Bree (coffeebeanbookshelf) We recently had quite a bit of activity going on here at Goodreads, with everyone voting for their favorite books of 2012. This is the 4th year that Goodreads has hosted the Goodreads Choice Awards, and I thought it might be fun to create a little challenge to go along with it! Here's how it will work:

Each year there were several categories, each with 10 finalists. Your challenge is to read as many of the finalist books as you can (or want). The links for the finalists can be found here:

2009 | 2010 | 2011 | 2012

Reading Levels
You may mix and match categories and years to reach the total number of books below

Peruser: 5-10 books
Bookworm: 11-20 books
Avid Reader: 21-40 books
Bibliophile: 41-70 books
Librarian: 71-100 books

The rules are pretty simple...choose the books that were finalists for any of the categories over any of the years which you'd like to read. (I know LOTS are still on my list years later, I probably should get to reading them!)

There is no page limit, if a book is on the list, it's eligible! Rereads are allowed, as well as all book formats. Books may fit more than one category, but you can only count the book once. Books that you previously read do not count towards your total unless you reread them.

Bree (coffeebeanbookshelf) Just as an FYI, when I planned this, I assumed the GR Choice Awards would have been announced already. The 2012 winners and finalists will be announced on Dec 4. I'm also having trouble getting the 2010 awards to come up - seems to be a recent site issue, though, as the link was working before. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

I assume it has to do with them playing around with the awards in the backend and they maybe don't know they turned that page off or something...

Yep, most likely :) But it's just like when you have a power outage at home: Nobody calls the electric company to report it because they think everybody else has done so, when in fact, the electric company doesn't have a clue because nobody has called LOL

Bree (coffeebeanbookshelf) I've updated the participants list since last night - sorry it took a bit, I got stuck in another town during a snowstorm after dropping my kids off with their dad - I had to stay in a hotel and obviously didn't have my handy-dandy laptop with me (nor my Kobo Touch, so I had to run to the bookstore a few blocks away to get something to entertain myself with, haha).

Thanks, Shirley, I'm glad you like the challenge! I figured it would be a great way for me to get around to all the books that I have had on my list that were nominated, lol!

Bree (coffeebeanbookshelf) They are both coming up for me at home, albeit very slowly. It could be one of those things that has to do with some IP addresses updating slower than others so while others can see the pages, others can't for a few more days. :( I don't know what else could be causing it! I posted in the Feedback group but haven't received a response.

Barbara ★ I've tried at work (slow internet) and at home (cable internet) and can't get it to work at either location. I also tried 2012 (from the Goodreads Winner's link not this one) and that one timed out too. I can see the initial screen but when I try to look at any category to see the nominees, it times out every time.

I'll just keep trying as I guess it will work eventually.

Barbara ★ The links are working now (at least for me). So well in fact that I had to change from Bibliophile to Librarian. I figured since this challenge has no end date, I'd add all the nominees that are on my TBR. 111 books! But hey I'm going to read them at some point so what's the difference. This at least gives me incentive to read them sometime in the near future. I hope.

Bree (coffeebeanbookshelf) It is really surprising how many are on my list too (and how many of them I have already read)...this challenge was inspired by the fact that each category I voted on this year only had one or two books that I had already read but an endless number of books that I *wanted* to read, lol!

As I said, it could just be slow-responding IP's (not slow internet, but the service providers sometimes take longer to accept changes to things, it's really weird...I used to have an IP that took forever and it was hard making changes to my website because I could never see what change I just made, lmao).
