Since yesterday I read: The Thief-Taker's Apprentice, The Warlock's Shadow, The King's Assassin all were good. Warlock's Shadow was probably the best. The final book seemed a bit hurried, with years of Berren's life getting skipped over.

Finsihed Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy with The Hero of AgesMy review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Starting the Audible version of Abercrombie's Red Country (which, after finishing, I expect I'll resume the foetal position and lament my completion of his last book)
David Sven wrote: "Finsihed Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy with The Hero of Ages"Did you read The Alloy of Law, too?
Just re-read Paul Cornell's Love and War, and listened to the Big Finish full-cast audio drama version of it. Brilliant! Also picked up a signed copy of
, so that's up next :)

I'll probably do that one on Audible after Red Country.
Also just finished the Audiobook version of Storm Front Going to catch up on some podcasts now, before my next Audible credit comes available...
Just finished The Hobbit and wow I was blown away. It's a lot better than I expected and I'm definitely going to read through the LOTR series as soon as possible. It's mind blowing how this was first published in 1937. One of my favourite reads of 2012 for sure, thank you so much for picking this for the bookclub :) Feel free to check out my full review here.
Now if only The Path of Daggers moved half as fast...
Sadly my Harry Potter audio book marathon has reached it's inevitable conclusion, as I finished up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows while I was driving around playing Ingress.
It was a great idea that inspired the me to do listen to all of Dark Tower and Dresden Files next year, since I want to re-read those series, but have too many new books to read.
In the short term though, I have some short stories and Dune to tackle during my 14+ hours of travel for the holidays to look forward to!

Thomas wrote: "Practice Effect by David Brin. Very entertaining, so far. (About half done.)"I read that many, many years ago. I loved it.
I just finished reading The Rook and listening to Winter's Bone. This first was good, the latter was absolutely amazing.
I'm still slogging through The Hobbit on my nook and am about to start City of Dark Magic in paperback. I'm having trouble settling on a listen.
Winter's Bone. It's mainstream, but the movie stars the girl from The Hunger Games. Whispersync isn't working on it. Gaaah. I bet they don't have these problems in the Ozarks.
Wow, I feel stupid. I thought Winter's Bone was only a film, didn't know it was also a book.I'll have to check it out.

I've been a fan of Brin's work for years, ever since I read Startide Rising. But no matter how much I like an author, there always seems to be a book or two by that author I never got around to. Lately, I've been trying to address that with my book choices. Practice Effect is one of these.
Finished Empire State, which was a fascinating stew of ingredients, and just started The Bones of the Old Ones by Howard Andrew Jones, which I've been very much looking forward to.
Couldn't wait just picked up Clockwork Angels: The Novel I'm a huge Rush fan and quite like Kevin J. Anderson looking forward to this read!
I recently purchased a new tablet and decided d to read some old classics ...because they are free...Frankenstein, the Princess of Mars, and Alice in Wonderland which I have never read.
Just finished The Path of Daggers and this was definitely a hard one to get through. The first two thirds have a LOT of filler and not too much happens, though the last third does sort of make up for that and I just couldn't put the book down til I was done. I came in expecting a slow(er) pace and that's exactly what I got, can't say I'm disappointed overall. Feel free to read my full review here.Next up I'll be reading And Then There Were None, I definitely feel like I've been missing out by never having read any of Agatha Christie.
Speed re-reading We for an SFF Audio discussion (love this book). Now that I'm on vacation, I decided to try to get to 200 books read by January 1. My musings are in my blog but I'm going to try for some books of short stories I have floating around, the Kameron Hurley book after God's War, and I just got The Fractal Prince in the mail yesterday, super excited about that.
I'm still reading The Hobbit as my "bedtime book." I figure I'll finish it in the next couple of days. It's an enjoyable re-read though I'm oddly looking forward to being done with it.I finished listening to The Emperor's Soul today and really liked it. Sanderson has created yet another compelling magic system, and I'd enjoy reading more novels/novellas/stories set in this world.
I think that I'm going to re-read The Gathering Storm and then Towers of Midnight as I get ready for The Gathering Storm in the new year. That should most likely take me through the month...if not, I've got some nonfiction books in the queue that I'd like to get to.
Finished Larry Niven's RingworldMy review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Starting Bujold's 3rd Vorkosigan book (or first Miles book) The Warrior's Apprentice
Just finished Jim Butchers Fool Moon, now I have to decide whether to read the Hunger Games Boxset or the Harry Potter Boxset im getting for christmas, I want to read them both.
David Sven wrote: Starting Bujold's 3rd Vorkosigan book (or first Miles book) The Warrior's Apprentice"I have that too, in the 'Young Miles' omnibus.
I listened to all of Legion yesterday while running around doing errands. I quite enjoyed it and I hope Mr. Sanderson does more stories with the main character. You can read my Review if you're so inclined. I highly recommend grabbing the free auidible copy of this Novella before the end of the year if you can.
I also finished reading Fool's Errand. You can read that Review as well.
I am now on to Golden Fool.

I see that. I'm determined not to get (too) distracted from the series. The books are just the right size for lunch time reading. I might intersperse them with Fritz Leiber's books which I'm also determined not to get distracted from. Hmmm...maybe that could be a New Year's resolution
Just started Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore and loving it so far though I'm only a few chapters in. :)
Getting into Michael J. Sullivan
on audible and really enjoying the tale. Rise of Empire and Heir of Novron are also available on audible and 2 credits left for the month; decision made!
Ready Player One was available for $9.95 on Audible today so I will listening to that over Christmas.
Just getting ready to begin Platinum Pohl: The Collected Best Stories. Thanks for suggesting Winter's Bone, it was a great read. I had never read Woodrell before.
I'm reading/listen the Name of the Wind: Kingkiller Chronicle. book 1 by Patrick rothfuss narrator by Nick Podehl.
Finished And Then There Were None and even with all the hype I must say I'm impressed. Not that it's a long book but I just couldn't put it down from beginning to end. I did feel stupid when I guessed wrong even though I reread several parts and made notes on everything I found relevant, but I suppose that's a good thing right? Feel free to read my review here.Starting Winter's Heart now, hopefully won't be too far from catching up when A Memory of Light comes out! (wishful thinking haha)

Good Luck. If you can just get through that and Crossroads of Twilight (my least favorite/slowest book in the series), the next 3 should move a lot quicker.
At least they did for me. You got about a month to go still!

I listened to Dodger by Terry Pratchett. It's not Discworld, and less fantastical than Nation, but much better than Long Earth. Set under London (a trope for me this year) in Victorian/Dickensian times. It's narrated by Stephen Briggs, who I don't care for much.I think I'm ready to give up Dirty Streets of Heaven, I feel like it's a slog and I'm halfway through.
Couldn't wait for Christmas so I started Ready Player One last night. Good stuff. I didn't get the significance of Halliday's avatar being called Anorak until I read that the name was given to him by a British exchange student. That's just to funny. Anyone else get that reference?
I cranked through the hobbit in about four days so I have actually started reading Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson. I picked it up on some Amazon deal a year or two ago and never got around to it. Man this is a big book with a lot of characters. Game of Thrones immediately jumps to mind, but with more high fantasy. Overall I am really enjoying it, but more than once I had to go online to look at a wiki to fill in my knowledge on what characters were doing what, and what places were where in the world. There is a lot happening here and I don't think Erikson solidifies it as well as Martin. Overall it is a very good read so far though.

Yeah, I have that sitting on my Kindle to read list as well. I read the first omnibus last year and came away with Cordelia being one of my favorite female characters ever.
Matthew wrote: " I read the first omnibus last year and came away with Cordelia being one of my favorite female characters ever."Loved Cordelia. She's back in the 3rd book - though Miles is the main POV
Read Naam's Nexus for an hour today. It just came out. Pretty damn good. Maybe I'm a sucker for neurologically enhanced sex gone wrong.
Rob wrote:"Good Luck. If you can just get through that and Crossroads of Twilight (my least favorite/slowest book in the series), the next 3 should move a lot quicker. At least they did for me. You got about a month to go still!"
Think everyone's warned me about the dreaded Crossroads of Twilight - which apparently not even Robert Jordan himself was entirely happy with - and admittedly I'm just too invested in the series to let a slow entry prevent me from finishing it :)
I highly doubt I'll be able to start reading A Memory of Light as soon as it comes out though. I tend not to read books in the same series back to back to avoid getting sick of the series, so unless by "side picks" go by really fast it'll probably be a while before I can pick it up.
Finished Paul Cornell's London Falling, which was good fun.I'm probably going to start Midnight Lamp on my lunch break.
Been finishing out the year by finishing up series I've started along the way. Or as far as I can get through them on my Nook, as the case may be. Starting The Black Lung Captain tonight.
I read The Curse of Chalion and Trapped. I started Perdido Street Station but set it down when I joined the group so I could read The Hobbit. I cant believe ive never read it.
I've just finished up with The Twelve by Justin Cronin which was good, World War Z by Max Brooks which I really enjoyed, Woold by Hugh Howey was I also really enjoyed, and The Naming by Alison Croggon.Just starting Dragon Actually by Gary Aiken for another book club, as I've already read The Hobbit and don't feel like rehashing old territory this month. Woohoo!
Aildiin wrote: "Finishing Orb Sceptre Throne. Next I think I am going to start The Hidden City"What do you think of Orb Sceptre Throne? It's my favourite Esslemont installment so far - I've yet to read his latest, Blood and Bone.
