message 201: by Mark (new)

Mark No, but I'll stop reading if the book is tedious. Not worth my time to skim a bad book.

What's a good thing to do in Morganville?

message 202: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments I dunno.

Do you still finish a book even if it's boring?

message 203: by Mark (new)

Mark No, I won't bother to finish a book if the author can't be bothered to hold my interest.

What's your favorite genre?

message 204: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Paranormal romance.

What's your least favorite genre?

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

Manga

What book character do you despise above all others?

message 206: by Lucille (last edited Jan 06, 2013 05:27AM) (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Absolutely not. I hate it when people do that. That's what bookmarks are for. Books should only be worn out from old age..

Do you?

message 207: by Mark (new)

Mark Haven't borrowed one in twenty years. (Also, I've tried folding the corner of my kindle, but it wouldn't go.)

What amount is too much to pay for ANY ebook.

message 208: by Lucille (last edited Jan 06, 2013 10:46PM) (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments I don't buy ebooks, but I think $5 is too much. I only read freebies on iTunes, or NetGalley.

What amount is too much to pay for any book?

message 209: by Mark (new)

Mark $6 for a work of fiction, perhaps $20 for a textbook. Current prices are four to five times that, which I think is ludicrous.

Do you ever buy used books on-line?

message 210: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Nope. I don't buy anything online.

Do you?

message 211: by Mark (new)

Mark I usually confine myself to ebooks for English-language novels. For anything else, I generally need to order paperbacks on-line, because of bizarre provisions restricting the sale of ebooks other than in the region of origin.

Do you generally prefer to shop in B&N or small, local stores?

message 212: by Rinasa1234 (new)

Rinasa1234 | 151 comments B&N
Do you make collections of everything related to a series you like or just have the book(s)?

message 213: by Mark (new)

Mark Sometimes both audio and ebook versions, but no tie-in merchandise.

Do you think there is a maximum number of books in a series after which the author should move on to something else?

message 214: by Rinasa1234 (new)

Rinasa1234 | 151 comments It honestly depends. I don't like it when an author keeps going and I end up following a huge part of a character's life. But then again, I don't like it when authors give too little. So the number of books depends on if there is more to tell.

Do you prefer to read outside or inside?

message 215: by Mark (new)

Mark Always inside, but then, I virtually never go out.

What is a series in which you think the author continued too long, so that the last books were of poorer quality?

message 216: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments The Immortal Series and The Mortal Instruments.

How many books is too much for a series?

message 217: by Mark (new)

Mark Well, 7 wasn't too many for Harry Potter, but Charlaine Harris definitely exceeded her limit with 13 in the Sookie Stackhouse series, probably by at least 5. Sue Grafton went up through W (23) in her alphabet series, and I'm thinking she could have stopped at 8, as well.

Do you think it would be a positive development if fewer than 80% of all novels published had to do with vampires?

message 218: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Hmm, maybe, maybe not. I like vampire novels. The plots authors come up with it these days are interesting and sometimes hilarious.

Do you think it would be a positive development if no one writes paranormal novels anymore?

message 219: by Mark (new)

Mark No, I think good authors will gravitate to genres that sell, and I enjoy well-written paranormal novels. That said, I think the sheer immense volume of books on the utterly nutty topic of blood-sucking fiends is bizarre and annoying. I'd find it equally strange if 75% of all new novels were about rabid chipmunks.

Who is the best writer of funny paranormal novels?

message 220: by Karina (new)

Karina I haven't read many funny paranormal novels so I am not sure.

Which character(from any book) have you related to the most?

message 221: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy, I think. Probably because I'm willing to do anything for my best friends.

You?

message 222: by Michele, The bookoholic! (new)

Michele C (mcgxo95) | 4897 comments Mod

message 231: by Dina (new)

Dina Heikal (dhekal) | 442 comments never tried to :)

does anyone like to listen to the audio version while reading a book?

message 232: by Mark (new)

Mark Dina wrote: "never tried to :)

Yes. Amazon now has synchronization with some audible books, so it's possible to switch back and forth. More frequently, I'll listen to a book I've already read, so it doesn't matter if my attention lapses.

Do you have a favorite audio book narrator?

message 233: by Karina (new)

Karina I don't listen to audio books. I lose focus on what is being said.

How many books have you read so far?

message 234: by [deleted user] (new)

Chinese and English combined, around 350.As for books in English only...then it's around 100 I guess.

Do you keep a collection of favorite quotes/excerpts and routinely update it?

message 235: by Mark (new)

Mark Yes. Seven or eight. (I've also published texts, myself, but I'm not sure whether I'd be willing to friend me.)

Do you read any language(s) other than English?

message 244: by Pierrette (new)

Pierrette | 104 comments Yes.

Do you read book reviews before you read the book?

message 245: by Mark (new)

Mark Yes. Unless it's an ARC, I won't read a book without checking out the reviews.

Do you ever "dog-ear" pages to keep your place?

message 246: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments Nope. That would ruin the book. Especially paperbacks.

Do you?

message 247: by Lucille (new)

Lucille (lucillep) | 3277 comments No, the book would get wet.

Do you? O.o

message 248: by Mark (new)
