Read 6/19/10 & Re-read 12/28/12
Someone suggested this book and I have to say I also enjoyed reading it. It has the typical girl with an agenda, she fights falling in love with hated enemy only to find out things are not always what you believe them to be. I agree with other reviews that are a bit creeped out that we never get the hero's name. He is only known as...The Commander..." A scared, unloved & unworthy of her - man." You know the drill. The Princess plans to kill her brother's murderer, the rival prince but is given to his commander instead. No worry, it keeps her close enough to play out her part in the down fall of this prince. As she gets to know the Commander and the people of this kingdom she finds it harder and harder to pull off the plan she and her youngest brother hatched. Where do her loyalties lie? Will she follow through on her plans? You'll have to read it to see. This is a feel-good book to curl up on the sofa with on a stormy day.
I liked this book the second time as well. What I picked up in this re-read is how hard it is to switch your support from a relative, even if that relative (Brother) is abusive. It is what she (Elwyth) was used to...and her beloved older brother was murdered by the Commander. Why wouldn't she believe her younger brother who was so sick with anger and bent on revenge? But she must have felt the turmoil of what she "Knows" and what her common scene tells her. The Commander certainly has qualities that she never believed him to possess and this conflicts with "the monster" she has built him up to be in her mind. I really felt this out in each scene...I am not sure with everything that goes on that I picked up on that before.
Weather: Sunshine – (Page 109) “At last, her horse cantered into open sunshine.”
Clothing: Hood - (Page 395) ”Her ears began to hurt from the freezing cold, and she tugged her hood tighter under her chin.”
Body Parts: Elbow – (Page 529) ”His hand curled around her elbow, urging her back to him.”
Misc.: Shelf – (Page 412) ”He took the spoon from the shelf and jammed it underneath.”

You're doing great, Katya! Don't worry at all :)

You can be brief here. I know it isn't your style. But you could get away with "it was good. I will read more from this author." You just need two sentences.

5 Stars!!! Read 4/25/11 & Re-read 1/2/13
I loved it. This is one of my favorite books of all time. I love this series but I think that after the first three books the author really ramped it up in this one.
But to be honest, I became interested in Madoc and Nika right from book two....I wanted to skip over everything to get to them. There was some special kind of magic between them. They both were sort of outsiders, who came up on the short end of the stick most of the time....you know tortured and yet I couldn't help rooting for them. There is such a pull between them.
My "Living Nightmare" Review
Weather – Snow: (Page 100) “Meghan Clark flipped her windshield wipers to high, hoping they would clear away enough snow to allow her to see the road.”
Clothing – Boots: (Page 17) “He leaped the fence and landed with a thud as his heavy boots hit the frozen ground."
Body Parts – Curly Hair: (Page 209) “Sibyl's blond ringlets were tangled, her dress wrinkled, which was not at all like her.”
Misc. – Emergency Vehicle: (Page 17) “It’ll be faster than waiting for an ambulance.”

Read from December 29th-December 30th

A really fun and flirty click-lit/mystery with a dash of paranormal. I really liked Gladie and the situations she found herself in, and her grandma's matchmaking tips preceding each chapter. Spicy enough to get your imagination running, but not enough to make it uncomfortable to read in public.
And one quote I can't help but put out there:
"Was that-?" he asked me. "A vibrator," I said. "She stabbed me with a vibrator?"
Bike: Location 2672 "Either the bike malfunctioned in some way or he got distracted and swerved."
Fog: Location 3568 "But since there's big fog warning for tonight..."
Sock: Location 2061 "...in the back of my dad's sock drawer."
Nose Location 409 "...pay good money to have your nose..." (or) Location 1422 "I waved the key under his nose."

I will update the spreadsheet and request the points we've gotten. I'm in the middle of my bike book, I plan to finish it by Friday :)

Remember it HAS to be plural :)
And no one has called eyes yet, so that's awesome! :)
I'll personally be going home tomorrow and will finally have some proper time to read and catch up :)

So, now I jut have to keep my eyes open for other stuff in the book. Too bad zombies aren't listen, or werewolves, or necromancers or goblins.

Alana go figure ha?

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
Read from Jan 1-6

I really liked this book! It's been on my TBR for sooo long and I've looked at it numerous times because everybody was raving about it :)
And now I finally got to it! And while I didn't completely blow my socks off, it was really good and with well-developed characters and a different take on the supernatural world which worked really well - I will be looking forward to the next book in the series :)

5 Stars!!! Read 1/5/13-1/6/13
** spoiler alert ** 2.8 Stars!!!
It is a UF series about a woman who has some special powers and is sucked into an alternate existence/world with her brother. Actually a dark world with self-absorbed, evil, dangerous vampires who have no sense of value in human beings. In fact they keep them for blood/sex slaves and kill them for sport.
She meets Arturo, a vampire who is called Ax & Snake. He is sensual, sexual, yet cold and heartless. He feeds not only off her blood but her fear. He decides that Quinn is his newest possession. He tells her to forget her life as she knew it. She is now a slave of his. But Quinn is determined to find her brother before he is killed and return to their world.
It is discovered that Quinn has some special powers and becomes a very valuable commodity to Arturo and his sire, the diabolical Cristoff who enjoys the feeds off blood and the pain of others. He runs through humans like a fat pig at a picnic and kills humans like he is eating donuts. She isa sorcerer and needed to repair the world they live in with the magic she possesses before they all die when it collapses.
The subject of this book is Quinn, finding her brother and escaping back home to the world she knows. She has to do that while navigating around all sorts of different characters who all have their own motivations and agendas.
The reason I did not rate this any higher than 2.8 stars is that I really feel that it is an underdone story first of all. We are left with questions...and I am not talking about cliff hangers but things that would have made us buy-in to the story. (view spoiler) The parts I enjoyed like the magic she was discovering where short lived and breezed over. Those parts of the story should have been expanded upon. And I did not like any of the characters or even feel alot of sympathy for them, except maybe (view spoiler) Too much time spent on boring parts and not enough on the fun stuff. I also did not mind that Quinn resisted (view spoiler) Later in the story we are to believe that she can't resist Arturo....I don't get that. I also did not care for the graphic violence. It was unnecessary. You know one thing that Alfred Hitchcock used to say about scaring people: "There is no terror in the bang, only in the anticipation of it." My recommendation? Tread lightly my friend....Tread lightly.
Weather – Rainbow: (Page 7) “As she neared the Naval Observatory on Massachusetts Ave., she saw one of the Shimmers up ahead, like a faint sheen in the sunlight, almost like the rainbow that sometimes appeared in water mist.”
Clothing – Glasses: (Page 156) “A guy with a stylishly shaggy haircut and silver reflective glasses unfolded himself from the back wall of the cave.
Body Parts – Eyes: (Page 6) “Clarice Rolled her eyes.”
Misc. – Cake: (Page 85) “She imagined a vampire castle to be a dark, brooding thing, but this one was lit up like an octogenarian’s birthday cake.”

Such a shame, seems like it could have been a really good read from the premise...

I am going to have to get a copy of this. Everyone seems to be reading it. I read it long ago as a fanfiction.

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks Dawn!
I'll re-post them once we get those :)

Unless I missed the post somewhere the team has not submitted for boots or bike. You won't get points for any of those items in those posts until the team submitts for those posts.

Katya, Cindy has posted up until "Sunshine" - so until we have her boots and bike posts, we can't claim any of those other items.
Dawn, don't worry, you didn't miss anything :)

Delightful, enchanting, titillating, and funny. I loved every single solitary second... so much so, that I ended up staying up ALL NIGHT LONG just to finish this in one sitting. It was that good, and hot, and Oh God, Simon! *Thump*Thump*Thump*
Sorry, lost control there for a second. Not wait, I'm not sorry because this book made me scoff in the face of the Sandman with a, "I can sleep when I'm dead, but simply MUST keep reading this book!" As much as I love those 'damaged character' romances, how refreshing is it to have some 'real' people who don't have huge dark pasts, ginormous commitment issues, or some other significant dysfunction.
There are certain touches in the book that seem to pay homage to other romances I enjoyed. Caroline's inner monologue and searches for her long lost "O" seemed to mimic the best parts of Ana's "Inner Goddess"; the more crass language at times and the serendipitous comedic plot twists remind me of the Chocolate Lovers series; and the humorous innuendo text messages between Simon and Caroline remind me of both 50 Shades and Easy (elements that I thought were among the high points in those books). Now, don't misunderstand me, I am not saying this book is 'like' 50, or Easy, or Seduction and Snacks, I am saying that certain aspects Wallbanger reminded me in some way or gave me the same feeling those other books.
Clive, you sneaky little pussy, you! How often can you fall for a guy and a cat all in one book? Not nearly often enough, I say. I was smitten with everything this book had to offer.
If I can borrow a scene from a movie mentioned in the book, it fully personifies how I feel about this book:

I'll most definitely have what she's having! I want to get some great meatball, and great jaw, and great woo, and great hi-there against my hoohah!
Eyes Location 58/Page 1 "I sat up, rubbed my eyes, and turned to look at the wall behind me,"
Lightning Location 3242/Pg 161 "The sky crackled a bit with far-away lightning, and low rumbles of thunder..."
Belt Location 3903/Pg194 "...wrapped my legs around his waist, his belt buckle digging cold into my thigh,"
Cakes Location 4800/Pg 240 "Dark coffee, tiny little lemon cakes, freshly cut berried and cream,"

I'm still afraid to read 50 shades of grey, I had to give up Masters of the Universe because Bella and Edward doing that stuff was just wrong.I am ok with others but not them. I am afraid I will still see Christian as Edward. Too much fanfic may have ruined a few books for me.

Yes, I know, I owe the bike book...even though I already claimed bike so once we all finish we will get the point. I will get the extra points very soon.

Crap! Both Cindy and I already have "shoulder"... :( Ah, well, will have to find me a shoulder/rainbow book :)
Alana, great job! Won't say why, cause that's jinxing it! ;)

I bought this last year and kept starting it only to get a couple chapters and be sidetracked by some other book or another. I wish I had not waited as long......This was great! I don't read alot of New Adult Genera books but have had this series on my back burner and I just love the covers!
Well, it was an easy, fun read with a great story! This is a book about a 18 year old girl who is selected to become a vampire and a member of the vampire royal family. She accepts her invitation, passes all the tests, goes through a hellish transformation and starts to settle in to a very different life style. She quickly learns that life will never be the same and she has to grow up in a hurry. Fitting in as the new kid on the block is not easy but when you have centennials who are jealous that you were selected to be a future queen does not make life that much easier.
With every step Clair takes into her new life as a vampire, a royal, a princess and future queen she finds the life she has accepted as very stifling and restrictive. She is told she will be taking a Blood Mate....She is worried about the threat of jealous court vampires who aspire to take what is hers....and her life is spiraling out of control.
But she meets some wonderful vampire friends who coach her through her new life and provide her with comradery and a sense of home and acceptance. One friend in particular is a good looking Dimitry who Clair starts to have feelings for. But somewhere out there is another man who watches her, protects her and when she accidentally whispers, "Who are you?" responds, "I am yours."
This is a great first book to a UF/NA series with lots of interesting world building, characters, fighting, blood, twists and turns and many secrets revealed. I really enjoyed this!
Weather: Lightning (Page 173) ”Everything felt like it was moving at lightning Speed.”
Clothing: Socks (Page 204) ”I pulled off my socks and lifted myself up into the window.”
Body Parts: Shoulder (Page 25) ”She flipped her long, blonde ponytail over her shoulder as she set a giant makeup case on top of my desk.”
Misc.: Paper (Page 21) ”She asked me the basic identification questions: hair color, eye color, height, weight and then she printed off a small slip of paper from a printer tucked inside a cabinet.”
