Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Gotcha! I want positive how exactly you wanted to work it.

message 252: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) So I guess I got us in trouble requesting the non called points JK! I'm almost done with my book and when Sam gets done (no rush Sam) well have is some extra points!

message 253: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'll probably be starting my book today, so hopefully I'll have it done before going back to work Monday :) Sory for being so slow this week!

message 254: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) No worries I'm running slow too!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) No worries I'm running slow too!

message 256: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Not in trouble at all. I posted it in the main thread because you were not the first to try and I just wanted to make sure everyone realized it before I had to turn down more points.

I really don't think I'll keep the scoring this way for the next round.

message 257: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Maybe it would be easier on you if the captains just turned in a weekly report of the reviews? Then you wouldn't have to monitor the threads as much and teams could still turn in non called points etc if everyone wasn't done for the week.

message 258: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Well the thing is I still monitor the threads so it would be just as easy to do it then.

I think the weekly reports might get mixed up too. If 3 people were done one week, then you would have to only turn in for 2 people the next week. And would you wait the whole week or just submit reports whenever you wanted to. one team could have 4 reports a week.

It works for other challenges, but there is such a variety of things claimed here it isn't the same as other group challenges. Maybe a thread for everyone to post on to claim thier individual points so I don't have to scan the threads.

message 259: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Well the hits keep on coming lol it's bike this week.

message 260: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I think I'm going to claim Lightning, Hood, Elbow, and (of course) bike. :) The book I plan on reading is "Vanished" by Irene Hannon.

message 261: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm deciding still, I've got a question in to Dawn to see if a bike lock will work.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Boots Week

Read: Passion Unleashed (Demonica, #3) by Larissa Ione by Larissa Ione
Finished: 12/27/12
Rating: ★★★★

Review:
4.25
By far my favorite so far. I've always liked Wraith and it was great to see another side of him. Wraith finally matures in this one! The angel and chosen concept was really neat. Serena was a good heroine as well. The last book's heroine got on my nerves. The parts with Ky and Gem were good too. I was hoping they'd get their own book though.

Jennifer H Good Golly! I totally didn't realize it was Friday until I was checking my email and started reading GR updates....this is what happens when you sit on your rump all day long...I do have to say I'm getting all my challenges prepared for "2013" though....at any rate I know whatever book I decide to choose I will not start til the 1st (I want to start all my new challenges at once)....I'll be back later to let you know:)

Oh & ugh bike!

message 265: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H P.S. Love the ticker Jenne!

message 266: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Argh Christmas has really slowed me down. I didn't even realize today was already New Item Day, LOL.

For last week, I'll be claiming boots, musical instrument, shoulder and wind. Hopefully I'll be able to finish my book in the next day or two.

I'll have to look into which book I'll be reading for this week. I may wait until Tuesday to start though if that's alright, so that whatever book I use can count for my 2013 challenges! Are there any items in particular we should be trying for this week?

message 267: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Jennifer wrote: "P.S. Love the ticker Jenne!"

Kind of cheesy lol!

If y'all want to wait till next week to start that's fine. I'll probably do the same. Once everyone has their book picked we can hash out items. Melanie said she would probably get hood, lightning, elbow, and bike.

message 268: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I'm going to read Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter

I'll be claiming lightning, elbow, glasses and of course bike (I can switch elbow and lightning to something else if needed)

message 269: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'm leaning towards Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. If I use that one, I'll be claiming bicycle, mist, elbow and either belt or necklace (whichever works better for the team.)

For Wonder Boys, I could use either wind or, if everyone next week is going for lightning, I could use that instead if it works better?

message 270: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I think I'm going to wait until Jan. 1st to start my book too.

message 271: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Sam either wind or lightning will work.

message 272: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I finally finished Wonder Boys for Boots week. I'll have my review done tomorrow :)

message 273: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Starting Blindsighted right this minute :)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Week four: Boots

I read: Wonder Boys - Michael Chabon
Rating: 4/5
Finished: December 31st, 2012

I think the best word to describe this book would be “charming,” or maybe “eclectic.” The events of the novel take place over the course of one weekend, and follow Grady Tripp, an author, Terry Crabtree, his friend and editor, and James Leer, one of Tripp's students, as they find themselves in one strange situation after another (most of them due to Tripp's poor choices.) It's a difficult book to describe, because again, the style and the events are very eclectic, but I really enjoyed it! I found myself really caring about all of the characters, despite the fact that they're all very much flawed. Really, they should be entirely unlikeable. Tripp in particular isn't exactly a stand-up guy: he cheats on his wife, gets his lover pregnant, kills his lover's dog, and spends most of the book under the influence of a cocktail of different drugs. And yet, somehow Chabon manages to make you care about him and root for him, and you really want everything to turn out alright. This book is definitely a fun ride, and I'm looking forward to reading more by Michael Chabon!

Items to claim:

Boots:
"He wore a patrician manner and boots made of rattleskin hide..." (pg. 19)
Musical instrument: "'That would be a tuba,' I said." (pg. 15)
Shoulder: "...falling in a flawless curtain to his shoulders." (pg. 7-8)
Wind: "A gust of wind blew a handful of rain from the trees..." (pg. 73)

Review:
What a great way to start the new year!
Rarely do I come across a book that gets my attention so early and manages to hold me all the way through. Blindsighted offers the perfect combination of startling detail and interesting characters. The icky parts are minimal, but haunting. Slaughter offers enough about her characters' lives to make them real, but there's also lots more to tell about them in future books. I sped through the book in record time -- now I want to know what happens next!

How is everyone coming along with their bike books? I'll probably finish my eyes book in the next few days and have my bike book done next week.

message 281: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I'm sorry for your loss, Jenne.

I'm about 1/4 of the way through my bike book. Hoping to finish it over the weekend. I'll have to look through my books when I get home for my eyes book.

message 282: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Thanks everyone for all of your kind words. She was a one of a kind woman and we'll miss her so much.

message 283: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) For my bike book I was thinking of claiming rainbow necklace curly hair and bike. I can't remember if we had another game plan or not?

message 284: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I will be reading Unholy Ghosts for "Eyes" week. I am going to claim:Snow, Hood, Paper and of course eyes.

message 285: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Jennifer that's one of my all time fave series! Each books smokes the previous book. IDK how Ms. Kane does it. I'm going to do a re-read of the series with a friend this year. I miss Terrible so bad!

message 286: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I should have my bike book done today or tomorrow. I plan on claiming lightning, hood, elbow, and bike.

Jenne, I claimed "glasses" during sunshine week. I noticed it doesn't say that here.

message 288: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (lovebeingvegan) I'll be reading The Truth of the Matter by Andrew Klavan. I plan on claiming wind, belt, eyes, and shelf. Does that work?

message 289: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) Thanks for catching it! I knew I had at least one mistake lol. All of that sounds good to me Melanie. It's great we finally had a week we can go four for four!

message 290: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H If anyone thinks I should claim something instead of what I listed let me know before Monday.

I almost forgot! I really do like this week's ticker, Jenne :)

message 291: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) My bike book has so many items, I don't know which ones to claim! I'm thinking I'll do bike, curly hair, and lightning and belt.

I'm leaning towards The Fault in Our Stars for my eyes book. As soon as I finish this week's book, I'll start on that one.

message 292: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I think what everyone is claiming sounds good.

message 293: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H It is so irritating when I don't get email updates :(

message 294: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) Mine are screwy too, Jennifer. I have mine set to notifications only, but it seems like I only get notifications for threads I HAVEN'T commented on, and never for the ones I have, which is kind of ridiculous.

message 295: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Points awarded for Boots, Shoulder, Emergency Vehicle, Tail and Moonlight

message 296: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I have mine set to email all. Should I change it?

message 297: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H Great work Ladies! 9 items!!!! Do we know if we have any other points to claim in "bike" week besides bike?

message 298: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) I'm not positive, I'm debating what clothing item to claim for my bike book, I have necklace and bra for sure. I think I have my notifications to email threads I'm following.

message 299: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I was debating between necklace and hood for "eye" week. I chose hood but if you go for necklace so could I :)

message 300: by Sam (new)

Sam (theliteraryhooker) I could claim necklace for "bike" week too, then we'd be almost there :)
