To mark the occasion, the title for the opening episode of the new series - the first to go before the cameras - has been announced this morning.
Sherlock S3E1: The Empty Hearse
Written by Mark Gatiss, Directed by Jeremy Lovering
The title was revealed on Twitter by Mark Gatiss. Sherlockology was alerted to the impending announcement of the title for the opening episode by Sue Vertue last night.
Filming on the new series began early this morning in Cardiff.
With the start of filming on the new series, Sherlockology has a couple of promises to repeat for our readers:
- We will never reveal ANY plot spoilers for the new series ahead of the broadcast of the new episodes unless they are officially sanctioned for release by the production team.
- We are not able to publicise any location filming that we may become aware of ahead of time due to issues of confidentiality, and the possibility of impacting the work of the cast and crew. Large numbers of people standing in a crowd have the potential to affect the filming, and we will be trying our best to ensure the crew has a minimum of disruption.
With that, all there is do now is watch, wait and continue to become excited! Good luck to the cast and crew.

And check out her two novels too....both very good.

Tis very good......I interviwed her on my blog a few weeks back: www.storiesfromlymelight.blogspot.com
No, Ebony...that was Carole Nelson Douglas.

"We can’t. We simply can’t,” he said while responding to an audience member’s question. “Their characters can’t meet because Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character in the Doctor’s universe. That’s one reason – you’ve seen Matt Smith dress up as Sherlock…he knows Sherlock’s a character. The other reason is I can’t make the Doctor real in Sherlock Holmes’ universe. Because then Sherlock Holmes would have the possibility of knowing time travel exists. He’d be saying, ‘Maybe a TARDIS was used [in this case].’ Seriously! ‘Has Sherlock seen the Daleks?’”
I had fun doing my own Holmes/Dr Who crossover story....was it real or was it a dream?

I couldn't agree more.
On a different note, I found this quote recently and love the way Moffat describes the Sherlock/Watson relationship:
“You take this cold, remarkable, difficult, dangerous, borderline psychopath man, and you wonder what might have happened to him had he not met his best friend, a friend that no one would have put him with – this solid, dependable, brave, big-hearted war hero. I think people fall in love, not with Sherlock Holmes or with Dr. Watson, but with their friendship. I think it is the most famous friendship in fiction, without a doubt.” - Steven Moffat

I agree! You never think of Holmes without Watson and you never think of Watson without Holmes! I love both of them so much :)
On a random tangent.... Last night I had a dream that I became friends with BC and got his autograph for my friend and it was cool because he was very nice but also shy and sweet. It was a nice dream with a plot AND a sub plot! OoooooooooOOOOOooooo ahhhhhHHHHHHH
Just wondering, does anyone here ship Johnlock? I just can't wrap my head around it. I'm all for gay rights and stuff, just can't picture the two of them together.

Ebony~My God's not dead, He's surely ALIVE! wrote: "Ugh. No. That needs to NEVER EVER EVER HAPPEN. I hate it when people say horrible things like that! You can't change something so deep in a character WHEN THEY'RE NOT YOUR CHARACTER! Seriously!"
I know!
I know!
I firmly believe Dr.Who is Sherlock Holmes cross-bred with science fiction, so I have decided that if anyone should play Dr.Who, it should be either Benedict Cumberbatch or Jonny Lee Miller, the modern Sherlocks. They would both be awesome. But I agree Holmes and the Doctor cannot meet, that's absurd, it's like two interpretations of the same character meeting. But they occupy different realities, too. In Sherlock's reality, the Doctor could not exist. But it made a good story, David! And a well-written one at that! :))

Totally agree. People relate to the idea of Holmes as the one who stands apart and observes and understands with a greater awareness than others.

But the worst part is I know I'll warm up to the idea and love the mustache by the end of the season
I wonder if they'll disguise him as old man with some rare books?
I loved how in the Rathbone films Watson never recognises Holmes when he is in disguise yet Mrs. Hudson walks in and says "hello Mr Holmes" like it's totally obvious it's him at a mere glance! So funny!
But we can't have Martin Freeman looking that thick I guess! :)

In the words of Jeff: "See no one ever thinks about the cabbie. It's like you're invisible. Just the back of an 'ead."
That way Sherlock could keep tabs on John, and later impress him by "deducing" what he's been up to.
Yes That's right.
I do think it's a pity not to use Sherlock's disguise skills. But I guess it could look cheesy if done badly.
When I sat down to write a Sherlock Holmes novella of my own, I tried hard to incorporate as many of his traits as possible. I touched on the fainting and the dramatic entrance but the disguise thing was tricky. In the end I went for putting on a mask that a baddie had worn and impersonating the baddie, so it was a nod to the master of disguise idea without getting too into it.
Maybe that's Moffat's meaning, he alludes to it without doing it in the traditional manner.

From 'The Great Game' Commentary
Mark Gatiss: (On the idea of Carl Powers' shoes) Then the thing about a name tag: I remember there was a kid at school we used to take the mickey out of because he had it for far too long. He had it on his towels... he was too old for it.
Benedict Cumberbatch: Can I make a confession? I still have some socks and towels from school that have my name on them. It's embarassing. I actually once did an interview with somebody who said "your nametag's sticking out". This is when I was twenty-six. I had a shirt that had my name on it; it was a white school shirt that I still owned. Oh, my pathetic life.
Mark Gatiss: Why do you still have pants and socks from school? I'm saying pants and socks..
Benedict Cumberbatch: (singsong) Not pants! I didn't say pants... socks!
Mark Gatiss: I'm imagining it, though.
Martin Freeman: Yeah, we're all imagining it.

Benedict Cumberbatch(on Martin): He’s always doing kung fu on me. We’ll be standing around, and I won’t be paying any attention to him, and then he suddenly goes, ‘HYYYMMNNNN’ and his hand is right next to my windpipe.
