Bonnie- most of the time when it's different pages like that it's because one is a hardback and one is a paperback but not always. Sometimes it can be just a mistake to.

Elizabeth (NC) | 209 comments I just finished Winnie-the-Pooh for Ros's task--read a book from the big reads list (25 point #4)
I read it aloud to my daughter over several nights and it was great fun. The first real book of this kind for her. I'm looking forward to reading The House at Pooh Corner with her next.

That puts me at 130 points

message 3206: by Bridgit (new)

Bridgit | 475 comments For anyone who was as scared by the poetry task as I was, I recommend A Poet's Corner. It is a series of poems collected by John Lithgow from poets across the century. Each poet profiled has either 1 or 2 poems in the collections, with an introduction by Lithgow, along with a short summation of what he gets out of the poem. It made the poems more accessible - so you could easily see how someone else interprets them, instead of having to wade through on your own. In terms of variety, there is everyone from Longfellow to cummings to Ogden Nash to Dunne. It is a great compilation that has really opened my eyes to the fact that I shouldnt be as scared of poetry as I am.

Anyway - 15 more points for me. Total: 225.

Rory M. For those of you posting about the The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series I also recommend Alexander McCall Smith's other series The Sunday Philosophy Club. McCall Smith has created another wonderful female detective, Isabel Dalhousie, who is also an editor for a philosophy magazine. This series has a bit of romance for his heroine with a younger man...za za zoom. Setting: Scotland.

Bibiana | 2 comments Hi, I found this group and this challange about a week ago, I'm a bit of a late starter... so I'm still trying to fill in all the books for the different challenges... i had a question about one of the 25 point challenges...

For El's Task - Read a Non-Fiction book about OR by a noted diarist.

I just want to know if Little Women counts for this challenge, or does it have to be a non-fiction book by Louisa May Alcott?

message 3221: by Courtney (new)

Courtney (cddimmitt) I asked the same question earlier. It either has to be the actual diary by Louisa May Alcott or a biography about her. Little Women does not count.

Welcome to the group Bibiana. Courtney answered the question, but yeah, it needs to be a non-fiction book about Alcott or one of Alcott's diaries.

Good luck with the challenges!

This was a fun book. I've been hearing a lot about her other series, but this book was passed on to me, so I read it before passing it on. I'm going to look for the others in the series. Paranormal isn't usually my thing, but this was light and fun.

Did you get as much of a kick out of the "random" capitalization as I did? I read it to my husband, and he was like, "This writing style is REALLY strange! How did this ever become popular??" I thought it was awesome!

Now I'm reading him Politically Correct Bedtime Stories: Modern Tales for Our Life & Times, which is a fairytale book I found in the adult fiction section... :)

Liz M 4. Read a novel that takes place in a location you plan to visit during this challenge OR have visited previously during spring break: The Black Dahlia. My sophomore year of collage we road-tripped to CA.

So, thinking of the "When Do You Give Up On A Book?" topic, I am glad I didn't give up on this one. Part one, which ended on page 71, was extremely dull. But the author seemed to think laying the mundane background information was important. For me, the story didn't take off until part 2 with the introduction of the title character. After that it was a fairly gripping police procedural.

Hey... Can't GR Librarians fix the titles of books? Because there is a book on here with a mistake in the title.
If you (or anyone else) can fix the title, the book IS called Ten Books That Screwed Up the World: And Five Others That Didn't Help, and GR has it listed as Six. It's a little thing, but kind of annoying.
My dad thinks I would like this book because of how much I read. It looks interesting. But, if anyone could fix that, it would be awesome! Thanks!

AWESOME!!! Thank you!

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) No problem. It doesn't really make sense that it was wrong in the first place, the cover clearly shows the number 5! Haha!

Ashley (affie) | 371 comments I know. I thought that was weird to. I thought maybe it was a new edition or something, but no. Still five. Thanks again!

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Done Jon... Not sure if they are the ones you have specifically, but if you want different ones, message me and we'll talk! :)

Just so you know, you can make these kinds of requests in the Goodreads Librarians group and they will be more than happy to make necessary corrections. (Not that I'm not happy to do it, I just don't want to clog up this thread!) Or you can always message me... I like getting messages! :)

Meghan (meghanly) | 218 comments Finished 25.6: Shadows Of A Princess An Intimate Account by Her Private Secretary

This "memoir", written by Diana's former personal equerrie (or personal secretary, to us normal people), would never have been written if it wasn't for Diana's tragic death. While there are no new observations (yes, we know their marriage fell apart; yes, we know she liked to travel to get away from it all; yes, we know she was rebellious to the royals); there is also no decent writing style, making this one for me a total flop. To make matters worse, the author gets so whiny when describing Di's flippant attitude towards him or other employees, numerous times stating "but I am a person in my own right!". Yes we know. But she wasn't happy, so she tried to get attention any way she could. Get over it.

If it wasn't for this challenge, I definitely would not have finished this one.

I will post my new points below.
