OFFICIAL SPRING CHALLENGE - 2009
It's a bit too deep for me for this challenge, but Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche was mentioned in "Little Miss Sunshine".

I think Proust is mentioned too, b/c Steve Carrell's character is a Proust scholar.

I'm going to read Shakespeare's sonnets (Sense & Sensibility). I've been meaning to read them for forever anyway.
I wish I could do that. Well, I could do that so I guess I should say I wish I would do that!I'm actually surprised I finished this many challenge books already without sticking a non challenge in.
I have almost a thousand books in two rooms in my house and I'm still having trouble coming up with two that rhyme. LOL
For Darla's task, in case anyone's looking for ideas, I've thought of a few..."You've Got Mail" mentions numerous books, since the two main characters work in bookstores, but here are a few off the top of my head: Pride and Prejudice, Ballet Shoes, Dancing Shoes, Theater Shoes (classic children's books -- wonderful! -- by Noel Streatfeild).
"84 Charing Cross Road" also mentions tons of books, and it's worth watching, if you haven't seen it, just to get ideas!
"The Devil Wears Prada" also mentions the Harry Potter series.
"Dan in Real Life" lists a number of books in a hilarious scene in a bookstore -- again, worth watching as an excuse to get book ideas.
This is a fantastic challenge -- combining two of my favorite things (books and movies)... now all I have to do is eat pizza or chocolate while completing the challenge, and I'll be in heaven! :)
I've finished a few tasks this week5 points

There is a book store scene in When Harry Met Sally as well. I can't remember what book she keeps hiding behind but it's pretty prominent in the scene (another movie worth watching again to see!)
That reminds me - Jane Eyre was a huge plot point in the movie Definitely Maybe - which is also one of my fave newer movies, by the way.

Elizabeth (NC) wrote: "There is a book store scene in When Harry Met Sally as well. Harry, however, read Misery and a Robert Ludlum book (I think it was one of the Bourne books).
Lake House the movie talked about the book Persuasion. I also want to go back and see if I can see what books were burned in Footloose.
And the movie Thirteen Days talks about the Guns of August which has been on my shelf since I saw the movie about 8 years ago...I guess I could finally read it...
Sara, I am so glad you mentioned The Pagemaster! I loved that movie when I was younger! So good! There are TONS of great books mentioned in that movie. I think that's what I am going to use. Thanks a bunch!

I can't remember all the books featured in The Reader, but here are a couple: The Odyssey of Homer and Lady with the Little Dog and Other Stories, 1896-1904.
I really appreciate all these movie references. I'm not a movie goer, so I would have been at a complete loss on this one!

Finished The Book Thief and Ella Enchanted for 10 point tasks 5 and 9.I loved The Book Thief! It was different from what I usually read, but it was so gripping! Death was a humorous touch too. :)
I cried at the end, and I've only done that for 5 or so books in my entire life! But then again, I'm not that old: just a freshman in high school...
Ella Enchanted was a re-read, so I don't have too much to say about it, other than it's one of my favorites too.

Jeane, after finishing it and thinking about it, it's kind of plotless, with a whole lot of random events (which I'm not even sure were in order) described, but I think it was very powerful. So many times I just went cold, thinking about the war and what an utter, utter waste it was. I also think it did a great job of showing that the end of the war wasn't the end of the mental torment for many of the soldiers, and what a struggle it must have been for them to try and return to everyday life. But, no, I probably wouldn't read it again!
