April (booksandwine) | 954 comments Here's an idea for Darla's task:
Utopia by Thomas More - it's referenced in Ever After
The Diary of Anne Frank - referenced in Freedom Writers

message 2252: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) It's a bit too deep for me for this challenge, but Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche was mentioned in "Little Miss Sunshine".

I love that movie! I think Proust is mentioned too, b/c Steve Carrell's character is a Proust scholar.

I thought that was a piece of classical music.... Nietzsche? WOW.... I'll pass.

I'm going to read Shakespeare's sonnets (Sense & Sensibility). I've been meaning to read them for forever anyway.

message 2255: by Eva-Marie (new)

Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) I wish I could do that. Well, I could do that so I guess I should say I wish I would do that!
I'm actually surprised I finished this many challenge books already without sticking a non challenge in.
I have almost a thousand books in two rooms in my house and I'm still having trouble coming up with two that rhyme. LOL

message 2256: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (iowadreamer) | 41 comments For Darla's task, in case anyone's looking for ideas, I've thought of a few...

"You've Got Mail" mentions numerous books, since the two main characters work in bookstores, but here are a few off the top of my head: Pride and Prejudice, Ballet Shoes, Dancing Shoes, Theater Shoes (classic children's books -- wonderful! -- by Noel Streatfeild).

"84 Charing Cross Road" also mentions tons of books, and it's worth watching, if you haven't seen it, just to get ideas!

"The Devil Wears Prada" also mentions the Harry Potter series.

"Dan in Real Life" lists a number of books in a hilarious scene in a bookstore -- again, worth watching as an excuse to get book ideas.

This is a fantastic challenge -- combining two of my favorite things (books and movies)... now all I have to do is eat pizza or chocolate while completing the challenge, and I'll be in heaven! :)

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Sara - it is also a piece of classical music. Just to be confusing!

There is a book store scene in When Harry Met Sally as well. I can't remember what book she keeps hiding behind but it's pretty prominent in the scene (another movie worth watching again to see!)

I can't remember either, I think it was a self help book. Harry, however, read Misery and a Robert Ludlum book (I think it was one of the Bourne books).

Kayleen (jegka) | 14 comments Lake House the movie talked about the book Persuasion.
I also want to go back and see if I can see what books were burned in Footloose.
And the movie Thirteen Days talks about the Guns of August which has been on my shelf since I saw the movie about 8 years ago...I guess I could finally read it...

Kritika (spidersilksnowflakes) Finished The Book Thief and Ella Enchanted for 10 point tasks 5 and 9.
I loved The Book Thief! It was different from what I usually read, but it was so gripping! Death was a humorous touch too. :)
I cried at the end, and I've only done that for 5 or so books in my entire life! But then again, I'm not that old: just a freshman in high school...
Ella Enchanted was a re-read, so I don't have too much to say about it, other than it's one of my favorites too.

The plum books by Evanovich

message 2295: by Josie (new)

Josie (maid_marian) Jeane, after finishing it and thinking about it, it's kind of plotless, with a whole lot of random events (which I'm not even sure were in order) described, but I think it was very powerful. So many times I just went cold, thinking about the war and what an utter, utter waste it was. I also think it did a great job of showing that the end of the war wasn't the end of the mental torment for many of the soldiers, and what a struggle it must have been for them to try and return to everyday life. But, no, I probably wouldn't read it again!

Lindsey (mamamunky) Phew. You people have been busy.

I completed a few tasks while I've been gone.

5 point task #4.Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Task – Read or listen to a book while you are on a plane, on a train, or in a car: I've been listening to the audio book version of Bleak House by Charles Dickens on the bus on the way to work for the last week.

10 Point task # 6. In honor of Earth Day (April 22) read a book with the word Earth, Moon, Sun or one of the other planets... in the title: I re-read the AMAZING book A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

Rory M. Kathryn wrote: "Hey all, I am trying to think of a funny book to read. I prefer novels. Anyone have any ideas?"

Kathryn: The funniest book I ever read was
The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid A Memoir by Bill Bryson. This was a memoir that had me laughing out loud. I rarely read anything that isn't fiction - this reads like fiction.
