Kandice Hey, Desert Island series sounds like a good topic for a thread! I love HP, but mine would be The Masters of Rome (McCullough).

message 252: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Well... I just meant between those two I'd choose Harry! I love so many others too!

message 253: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) oh yeah...definitely. Percy, I think, does echo HP in several ways...but in a side by side comparison doesn't even hold a candle to the real thing.

message 254: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Okay, I made a thread. I bet 99% of the people will choose HP, so probably not a real informative one, but we'll see...

message 256: by Kandice (new)

Kandice What do you mean, you can't tell ME??? You can tell ME anything;)

message 257: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) nope not for...um...a bunch more months :P

message 258: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I know you're reading the latest Sookie and can't wait to see it marked "read" so we can talk about it!!!

message 262: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Kandice!! YOU need to read it. I need somebody on Team Eric to talk to about it :)

message 263: by Kandice (new)

Kandice But it's only available in HB and the library has like 20 people waiting. I guess I could sneak and read it (really, really carefully) at Barnes and Noble;)

message 264: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) great plan :)

April (booksandwine) | 954 comments Interesting review of Dead and Gone. I hope I enjoy it more than you did, lol. Great progress on your reading challenge, BTW!

message 268: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Thanks, lol. If you like Eric, you'll probably like the book more than I did, but the rest of it stands. It felt very rushed, and Charlaine didn't wrap up a lot of book plot points, and it just felt sloppy. But, it's not like they are great literature, so I should probably be more lenient. Haha!

I've been slacking lately with my reading, so I should get OFF of this computer and actually do some... But I'm just being lazy! ;)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments Becky, I've been meaning to ask...how was Let The Right One In? That's one that I've been meaning to buy for a while now, but keep forgetting to pick up once I actually go to B&N.

message 271: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) It was very good. Very different than most vampire stories, as it was, I don't know, less about the vampire than about the main character Oskar.

It's hard to describe. You read it, and you can feel the place, and the people, and their lives coming through the page. The characters are easy to identify with, even the ones who are despicable. I really really enjoyed it.

It is quite gory at times though, so if you have a weak stomach, I wouldn't recommend reading with without some pepto and a barf-bag close by! ;)

But yeah, you should pick it up. I was very surprised by it.

message 272: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) Which Ice Queen, Becky? The Alice Hoffman one?

message 273: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I may have to look up Let The Right One In. I kind of like gory, no Pepto neccesary! LOL

Carol (caroldias) Did you like it? *_* Please say yes hahaha

I thought it was brilliant not giving a name to her lol

message 277: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Umm... No. I didn't really care for it... I didn't like the main character at all, and to be honest, I never realized that she was never named until right now. I guess that goes to show what caring or not caring about a character can do...

=\

Sorry!

message 278: by Carol (new)

Carol (caroldias) hahahahah that´s okay, I understand. She is weird, indeed lol

message 279: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I couldn't really like her because she was so self-centered. EVERYTHING was all about her. The guy, Lazarus? He sounded pretty sexy;)
*blushes*

message 280: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) hey Buuuuh...I shipped you your stuff. I forgot to tell you.

:D

message 281: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) You rock, Al! :D

Kandice, I agree. Laz was pretty hot (ha ha, pun intended). ;)

Carol, I think I'd have felt differently if she had... GROWN. But she didn't learn anything from all the stuff that happened to her - she just became MORE self-centered. I mean, the very first thing that happens in the book is that she wished for something terrible that came true, and instead of learning from that and trying to be better, she got even MORE selfish and claimed she was punishing herself. Pfft. Sorry, I just can't get into that.

I so need to agree with you! He really sounded sexy, besides the big face in the back lol
I don´t think she was that self-centered, I mean, she was, but in a very neurotic almost pathological way, you know? I felt sorry for her.

Allison (inconceivably) I can't believe you read 800 pages of nasty!

I would have given up, I'm actually kinda impressed.

message 287: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I didn't read all 800 pgs of it. I probably read about 1/4 of it. But dammit, it was torture, so I'm counting every last page.

message 288: by Allison (new)
