message 1930: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller I haven't been to a UBS since December, and it is upsetting.

I did, however; go on Amazon and picked up some books I have been meaning to get to, as well as some that must be read now. As you know, with UBSs, it can be a crapshoot.

Buys:

Ashes, and yes, it is about zombies..why wouldn't it be?? LOL.
The Rook, which has probably been on my TBR since I joined GR in 2011.
Wool; because i have to find out why everyone loves this.
Autumn: Purification, because this series is one of the best zombie stories i have read and i have read many. it gives us a look at the initial days following an apocalyptic disaster.

message 1931: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (veraj121) | 328 comments I have Wool on my Nook. I will read it one day. But everyone on my job love it

message 1932: by Zoe (new)

Lots of reading!

Chris (cbrunner11) | 674 comments Squire wrote: "On the recommendation (more like insistence) of my 13-year-old niece:

I liked Hunger games a lot more than I cared for the Divergent series. I was talked into it by my wife who wanted to read them. Niether of us were impressed with Divergent. Hope you enjoy them though.

Sam- I loved House of Silk. It is a great Holmes Pastiche. Horowitz realy captures the voice of Watson. There is a rather disturbing twist at the end so be ready. I hope you like this book.

I'm going shopping with the family on Monday and a trip to Barnes and Noble is in our future. The kids will of course get neew books but I'm anxious to go hunting myself.

message 1938: by Lauren (last edited Feb 17, 2014 07:10AM) (new)

Lauren Kennedy (laurenxo) | 24 comments Today I bought:
A House Divided
The Simple Soul and Other Stories
Blaze

I received these in the mail today:
Chopsticks
Tricks Of The Mind

I was really annoyed about Chopsticks. Within 5 minutes of opening the envelope it was in, the cover just came off the book. I'm hoping I can get a replacement. I ordered it from the Book Depository and that's the first time I've ever had a problem like that with them.

Great Haul Lauren, but sorry to hear about the cover coming off. That stinks! I can understand why that would be annoying.

message 1940: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 757 comments Book depository are normally really good. They'll probably get you to send a pic then will either refund or send another one. A couple of times they've sent me new books and told me just to keep the damaged one.

message 1941: by Victor (new)

Victor Does anyone know of a good website to buy UK versions from?

Well hopefully that will happen with me as I don't want to have to pay to send back the book and this book is quite big!

message 1943: by Victor (new)

Victor I really want to get Chopsticks, Lauren. I have heard amazing things about it. I wouldn't think a book made of only pictures could be so good:)

message 1944: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Kennedy (laurenxo) | 24 comments I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. There was small amounts of text in it, though. It was a very quick read but also very emotional. The story was executed perfectly with the photography and art. You should get it if you can!
