Adrian Fridge (adrianfridge) The setting is an island that is blocked off from the outside world. The main character is a guy who has been bioengineered to be super-everything. I don't recall if this is a spoiler but he was grown in a lab from a bird embryo. There's a scene where he and another person talk about their desire for flight even though they have human forms.

Unfortunately no, but thanks

Kagama-the Literaturevixen | 599 comments I believe this might possibly be the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson

The first book in the series is The Angel Experiment

Though the main character is a girl and not sure about the assassin/island part.

Hmm, no. The main character from the book I'm referring to was definitely a guy, and he couldn't actually fly (there are a lot of falling scenes though).
Thanks anyway

Kagama-the Literaturevixen | 599 comments Youre welcome. Would have been too easy if it was that one eh? lol

Can you remember how the cover looked? Or some names? Sometimes it can jog your memory :)

Adrian, are you still looking for this?

Adrian Fridge (adrianfridge) Yes I am. I can't remember much beyond what I've already said.

Daphne | 247 comments I was curious when you read it, or how old you think it is?

I read it four years ago, if that helps.

Adrian--if you bump this back to the top of the queue every 30 to 60 days or so, you'll have a better chance of getting it found.

Shanna_redwind | 852 comments The The Bar Code Prophecy series has some of the characters with bird DNA, and they do talk about flying (view spoiler)

There's not really a superhero character though, and the main character is a female, not male. Just mentioned it in case you're mixing a couple of books up.

Thanks for trying. It was definitely a male though, so I don't think this is it.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments The Lab The Lab (Agent Six of Hearts, #1) by Jack Heath ?

Here's another description: In a polluted world reduced to a single walled island of nine billion people, teenage Agent Six of Hearts belongs to a secret organization called The Deck that battles the excesses of ChaoSonic, the corporation that controls everything. The product of a mysterious laboratory where bird, shark, and even plant genes were added to his DNA, Agent Six has superhuman abilities and considers himself a machine—until, that is, he meets a laughing, reckless fellow experiment with similar powers who prods him into accepting his humanity.
