Marieke (mariekeyn) | 8 comments Seconding--fourthing?--this. My reviewers are removing their reviews too. As stated in another thread, I'd be more than happy to provide different (actual) publications, but I'd kindly ask for this entry for an at this time personal document to be removed. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15...

Perhaps it is the virtual equivalent of wanting to see friends' books on their shelves? I don't believe it's wrongly meant, but it seems the lines are blurring and something that used to be obvious (stories are first and foremost personal unless stated otherwise) might not be anymore.

But yes, (I'd almost say unfortunately) a release sounds like a good idea!

Tamara Mataya (tamaramataya) | 6 comments As a public librarian in real life, I can tell you that we do not add things to our collections such as rough drafts, ARCs, or anything of the like. If Goodreads is going for Library-type distinction, it will remove these Manuscripts. They are not books, and indeed the content may vastly change if they are published in the future. I would gladly add my work - if it gets published in the future.

Quite a few libraries do feature not-yet-published books in their catalog, and allow patrons to pre-reserve them. Regardless, longstanding GR policy is not to remove such items if they have reviews.

Those are generally books with an un-yet-determined pub date. Not a rough manuscript from an unknown writer. But I hear you - you're saying that if my one reviewer deletes her comment, you can delete my manuscript, as it will have no reviews.

Come on, guys, I'm trying to be polite and respectful here. Several agents have stated that if they see querying mss on goodreads they will assume they are self pubbed and pass. I'm asking nicely for you to simply delete the record of my mss in your database. I've contacted everyone who left a review or rating and all but 3 have responded saying they removed their reviews. Please remove my personal manuscript. I'm trying to get an agent and don't want to risk losing that opportunity.

There also appears to be a caching issue on the page. If you try to click on "see review" on any of them it results in an error saying that content doesn't exist. Not is the book itself found on any shelves of those who said they removed it.

The image that appears on the book you've linked corresponds to the image appearing on the site that the e-book is listed on--url in the description.

As an aside, I don't see how it's respectful to ask volunteer librarians whether we're "deliberately adding false information and ignoring facts". Have you considered contacting the site on which the e-book appears?

Intead of removing the wrong author ("Lisa McMann (Goodreads Author)") and adding the correct ("Lisa McMann") you could have just edited the author page for "Lisa McMann (Goodreads Author)" and changed the name to "Lisa McNann". Then you could have merged the two profiles into one.

Henning (henningbw) C-Cose wrote: "The image that appears on the book you've linked corresponds to the image appearing on the site that the e-book is listed on--url in the description."

As I've said it's a duplicate of the 2000 paperback, only with errors.

There are 4 editions on the site.

2 paperback
1 hardcover
1 ebook

There is only 1 paperback edition released. The two editions on the site are in theory identical, but the one I have linked has many errors. The orange-green cover is for the paperback and ebook editions. The blue cover is for the hardcover.

The one I have linked is, as I've said, a duplicate with errors. It's isbn was a changed version of the real one (it had just 1 higher value), so it got removed. So it's funny how you use the url in description as source when the isbn doesn't even match. It has a non-existing release date, which happens to be very similar to the real release date which is April 26th 2000. Same date, different year. It's just errors. Compare the two paperback versions, check the links, and you will see.

I have explained multiple times, no one responds, and they instead remove changes I have made without knowing anything about the editions and ignoring what I've written, without contacting me.

C-Cose wrote: "As an aside, I don't see how it's respectful to ask volunteer librarians whether we're "deliberately adding false information and ignoring facts"."

I'm also a volunteer, and I don't think it's very respectful to ignore my multiple posts, remove my editions without contacting me first or replying here, when I've asked for support in fixing an error and explained why. No one are actually checking the links and comparing the data, they just assume the first super-librarian was correct, because they know each other and not me.

C-Cose wrote: "Have you considered contacting the site on which the e-book appears? "
It's not an ebook...

I can't because Lisa McNann is a Goodreads Author and her author page can't be merged unless by the author herself. That's the message I got from GR when I attempted to do that.
Maybe a superlibrarian can do it, too, that's why I posted here instead of contacting the author directly.

It's not an unpublished book. It's a personal word document. It's the exact same as the other manuscripts above that you were asked to remove and did remove once there were no reviews. Please, please just remove it. I'm not a published author - I'm a querying writer a d something like this could hurt my chances. I've followed everything you asked me to do in order to have it removed - i.e. contact all reviewers to remove their reviews. Please.

If one of the author profiles is a GR Author profile, you can't perform this merge. It must be done by a staff member.

Since in this case there was only one book, it was easier to change the one book. I checked the leftover author profile; since there was no fans, events, quotes, etc., I merged into Unknown. However, even this isn't really necessary as there is a clean-up script that runs about once a month to delete such author profiles anyway.

Ok. I can't see anything about removing authors in the librarian manual, but I have a feeling you don't have to delete them, which is probably why there's no link for regular librarians either. Most likely the system will delete empty author profiles periodically or list empty profiles for the super-librarians or moderators. It would be extremely weak programming if they had to be reported manually. Someone else would have to confirm that though.

Greetings Henning :)

Perhaps it would be helpful if you listed specifically which are the correct edition and itemized the specific problems with the other entries in one post. In your last post, the one I'm responding to, you've listed:

There are 4 editions on the site.

2 paperback
1 hardcover
1 ebook

Which of these are valid entries--with appropriate GR links to them?

Which are incorrect and need amending or deleting--again with appropriate GR links?

I hope you can understand that as there have been several hands trying to accommodate your concerns, errors may be made.

Henning (henningbw) C-Cose wrote: "Henning wrote: "Which are incorrect and need amending or deleting--again with appropriate GR links?"

I've been very careful in pointing out which edition is wrong, and I've linked to the same edition every time.

This one is the only one that has errors, and the only one that needs to be removed: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/51...

It's not an alternate cover edition as the text, that the librarian added, says.

As you can see it doesn't even have an isbn, even if there is an isbn in the url. The url is, however, identical to the url in the other paperback edition, and the isbn matches the other paperback edition, date, etc. The dates are the same in the two editions, only with different years. Only the other, which I don't want deleted, matches the url. The publisher site only has one edition; there is no 2008 edition.

To summarize: The edition that I've linked to is a duplicate of the other paperback edition, only with errors. If you just check the other paperback edition you will see that it has the correct information.

Tristina's in an unpublished (Not expected to be published) DRAFT, not a book. It's unagented, and it's the same as mine was - a manuscript. They were added without our knowledge by beta readers.

Please just delete her work. Hers is the exact same as mine, and mine was deleted without a problem.

Henning (henningbw) Paula wrote: "It is wrong according to you, which it may well be but Supers or any librarian should not be just deleting books / covers with verifying facts."

No, it is wrong according to all the facts. You can't argue with the facts. The url's are the facts, and they support me 100%. You aren't even looking, you aren't considering the facts or checking the url's, comparing the data or reading my posts fully.

Paula wrote: "Another librarian added the cover - and deleting it with out checking with them first is inappropriate "

Another librarian added the wrong cover, and I fixed it. I have verified and added a source for proof.

Honestly, your message just proves my point. You aren't even trying to find out the truth, you just want to "win", even when all the url's and data support my claims...
