Onward!"

Go G, Go! You can do it!! :D The more you write, it will loosen up in your head, I bet, and then you'll roll.

It's like pushstarting a car. At first, it sucks, but then when the car starts moving the momentum carries it by itself! I hope it starts to roll for you.

What about one of your secondary characters, Sara? Can you develop one of those to be your main character? Or maybe change something about the world so the main gets more interesting?

I'm no expert by any means, but I hate to see you discouraged your first day out.

message 153: by Lynxie (new)

Lynxie Into day 2 and I havent written anything on my novel... did work on something else... does that count?

If it does, I'm up to 300 words.

message 154: by G (new)

G (g1enna) My primary character has kind of been derailed....I'm just going with it....I thought I knew where I was going on this ride...clearly I was mistaken.....467 words...but whose counting....oh yeah me ;)

message 155: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Mine's flipped around on me too, even the one line I came in with looks like it may not be part of things anymore.

We'll get there. We're the little writers that could. lol.

message 156: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) First day over and I've got 11k words. That was my goal, so I'm extremely happy I reached it. Tomorrow I'll try to bring it up to 15k, because my problem is that I won't have much time during the week, I think.
Well, so far on track.
Happy writing to all of you! We can do this!!!

message 157: by Dana (new)

Dana (andbookhoarding) got to 1700 today, but i'll be writing during vampire diaries as well, hoping to get at least another 1000 done. I'm afraid that I won't have enough time tomorrow, catching up before I fall behind!

Holy crap 11K today and 15K tomorrow??? Wow!

message 159: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) Um, thanks.
But my goal isn't to reach 50k, but to actually finish my novel. And as my novels tend to have at least 80k words, I have to keep going.
And I had mostly free today and tomorrow too, so there's time room for writing. Always a plus.

message 160: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 3 comments 2868 words so far (which means i have aleady broken last years record). It is kind of messy, but I am not erasing anything (part of my strategy to get 50,000), but I decided to loosly base my story on my life, but add more drama and such. I'm alittle excited. Just alittle.

message 161: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) Sounds good!
My life wouldn't give enough for 50k, not even if I add action. It's so boring. :P
The not erasing strategy is a good advice!

message 162: by Dana (new)

Dana (andbookhoarding) I'M HAVING AN IDENTITY CRISIS.
I keep switching from third to first person pov, and I want to go back and fix it but I know that wastes time. It's just very irritating. -___-

message 163: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) You can write more than the 1667 words per day, so you have a day time to correct the worst parts. That way you don't loose time.
Or just leave it be and edit in december. NaNo is not about quality, but quantity, after all.

message 164: by G (new)

G (g1enna) I am impressed to be in such amazing company! 1000 words here and 2000 + words there....

I never thought I'd make the word count...I'm more interested in the journey.

I need to remember if something isn't working in the story I can radically change where I am.

I also have to stick to the story....back to it.

Thanks for all of the encouragement :D

message 165: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I love it that we are all cheering each other on. I love to cheer and be cheered, lol. I'm so glad I found this group! :D

It feels so good to be writing fiction again. I've really missed it.

Go G, Go!

message 166: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) That's all NaNo is about: motivation!
You could write 50k every other month, but why do we choose to do this in November? Because we meet all those amazing people, of course! :D

message 167: by April (new)

April Helms | 1 comments OK, first day at my first attempt at this, I've written 1,036 words. A bit of a slow start. I outlined my book yesterday evening, so that should help.

message 168: by Emily (new)

Emily E (emily_e1) | 20 comments Day 2 here in Oz, 1298 words down so far. I am pretty sure surfing GR is not helping my word count.. ;)

message 169: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I type my story on Microsoft Word, I don't type it on the NaNo site. I didn't even know there was a way to do that.

message 170: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) So what does Elke mean then? I'm confused.

message 171: by Laura (new)

Laura (lbrimer)

It's utter crap but that's not what's important right now. I'm going to wade through the crap and find, somewhere, a really good story. I know it. :)

message 172: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I'm hoping to do the same thing, Loralee, you're not alone. It's all crap right now, but that's what takes the pressure off. It doesn't have to be good, just get it down.

GO GO GO

I'm getting ready to start my day two ... hoping it goes well !

message 173: by Vintage Lady (new)

Vintage Lady Well I haven't written any words yet. I am hoping to start today. I have an idea, I just need to set pen to paper, so to speak. I think once I start it will just flow. That is usually how it is.

message 174: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) I'm going for 15k til midnight (for me it's 8:30pm on day 2).
:D

message 175: by Laura (last edited Nov 02, 2012 01:44PM) (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Day 2 is proving to be harder than day 1 and my daughter made a surprise visit home from school and there's all this "noise noise noise noise" (in my Grinch voice).

Thrilled to see her but ... I gotta write peeps! I'm not quite up to 1K and my male m/c is starting to bore me. :(

message 176: by Angelica (new)

Angelica (angelicam2009) I'm doing vlogs on my experience with NaNoWriMo. First one is up!!

message 177: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 7 comments So day 2 is proving harder than day 1. Life has just been getting in the way. On the plus side, I used time driving and running around after kids to think about things and have some new ideas to work in. Only 800 words so far though (and even my post on here has vanished!) Off with a glass of wine to try another 1000 words before bed.

message 178: by G (new)

G (g1enna) Day 2 I've barely touched my story. I'm at just under 1,000 words. I have no story just some ramblings......

message 179: by Angelica (new)

Angelica (angelicam2009) Elke wrote: "I'm glad I wrote today, it all came pouring out haha, I wrote about 1500 words so I have 12600 now :) I hope I can keep it up :3"

12600 words!! That's fantastic!! Keep at it!

message 180: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 7 comments Made it. Up to 9000 words exactly, so about 2500 today. Fear I might be obsessing with word count somewhat. That said, could continue so not running out of things to say - yet.

message 181: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) I'm already close to running out....I need a miracle. *Deep breath*

message 182: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) I'm at 17000 words. Maybe I'll make it to 20k in the next hours. We'll see.

You have plenty of time after this month to go back and fix things... right now you're just getting a rough draft to get the basics down. Worry about fixing and editing later :) Good luck.

message 184: by G (new)

G (g1enna) Wow I"m pretty impressed by the quantity of words you all have. I've finally reached more than 2K....how do you all do it?

message 185: by J.C. (new)

J.C. (jcjoranco) | 7 comments currently at 1,941 words. First chapter came out awful sketchy, gonna go back and flesh it out a little bit, but so far what's coming out is pretty good *knocks on wood*.

message 186: by Donna (new)

Donna (ohnoitsdonna) | 1 comments I haven't even started. I plan to start tomorrow. This is the first time I'm participating, but it falls right in the middle of final assesments and exams.

I just couldn't resist signing up!

message 187: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) Same for me. I've got my first college exam coming up in the last week of November - which is why I try to write as much as I can now, because I won't have time then.
I've got 20038 word so far. I hit the 20k mark this morning and the went to bed. Now it's noon for me.

OMG thanks for reminding me! I forgot about chapters!! I've only ever written short stories, never needed a chapter break before. I've just been using asterisks to switch to different characters hehe.

You'll get there, G. Don't let the big numbers scare you off, lots of us have way less. I'm just keeping up with the 1667 a day at this point. Hopefully the weekend gives some additional catch up time.

I had to add some supernatural elements to zip things up a bit.

Still don't know how you are doing this! Does finishing up a story somehow put the turbojets on or something? I can't imagine writing that many words in only a couple of days!

Are you eating some special brain food or something?? lol

The big numbers are sort of scary :) so far I'm a great narrator....I am working to flesh out descriptions. Forget chapters :) I'm just trying to get words on the page.

It really is something like turbojets. This is the fifth volume and so far I managed one book of thzis series per year. Well, this year it's already November and all I had were empty pages. NOT good. So I'll finish it during NaNoWriMo, so that I can give it away as gift on christmas.
That's what motivated me, anyway.

Concerning the brain food... do lots and lots of caffeined iced tea and chips count? And cookies. Cookies always work wonders. ;)

message 196: by Marlene (new)

Marlene (marlene1001) I hate editing... that's why I try to write as good as possible, so that I won't have to do that much. Doesn't work as well during NaNo, though.

Amen, just get it down.

It is nice not editing. Usually I edit as I go, it's kind of liberating to just let the wind blow through the words ...

That's how I normally write, too, but not this month lol.

message 200: by G (new)

G (g1enna) Great advice everyone! As a newbie I'm just happy to be getting sentences on the page :) Most of them are pretty good...I just keep pressing forward.

Speaking of moving forward do you ever find yourself writing in a circle?
