Hope you enjoy it D.G. It's been a while since I read the trilogy, so I may have to reread them before the prequel Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen is published next year.I'm debating between
&
, but leaning toward Chasing Magic. I'll let you know once I decide.
I really liked the first book but didnt like the second as much. I hope this one doesn't dissappoint. But of course I started a completely different book for the shelf already
I'm desperately trying to catch up. Finished Black Night and Incarnation over the weekend. Will work on reviews in a bit.For the Catch Up shelf I'll be double dipping with the Dance Challenge and reading
, hopefully that will help with catching up. :-)
Great that you finished the Free Space, Sherri! I think we should definitely prioritize those shelves that gives us several in a row (free space, urban fantasy, favorite author and series catch up.)
SHELF: *Series Catch-up
Title/Author: The Ideal Wife (Dark Angel, #5) by Mary Balogh
Read for shelf: *Series Catch-up
Date finished: Oct 16
Rating: ★★½
There wasn't much to this improbable story - hero proposes marriage to heroine within 10 minutes of meeting her for really crazy and stupid reasons. Marriage was such a serious business back then - with no way out if it didn't work - that you could never imagine somebody taking such a step without at least knowing the bride's first name. Of course, it works beautifully for them. How unlikely!
Whatever conflicts there were came because of the heroine's impulsiveness. Balogh has been known to have a zany heroine here and there but this one wasn't that likeable because she was just so crazy. I couldn't believe that with all the crazy shit she was doing, that the hero would just laugh at her schemes.
The last two books in the series look more promising but I'm not sure you really need to read this one to get the background.
oops i forgot to tell you I finished reading Home Improvement: Undead Edition on 10/8 and give it five stars. loved reading stories from old favorites and new. Would you believe that this is the first of anything sookie sackhouse i have ever read? I am looking forward to reading more from that series.
Completed: October 15th, 2012

Review: As with the first book in this series...AWESOME! I love the characters in this series and this book is just another fun peek into their lives. Oberon is also the greatest dog character ever written, hands down! :) I enjoyed this story in part for all the great mythological background that the writer hands over but also for a bit of development in the relationship/past of The Morrigan. Fun stuff and I am continuing on with the series as I write this since I moved right on to read
i finished my free space book Kiss of Midnight on Oct. 17 and give it four stars. I will continue to read this series. I liked the premise of breedmates, but i don't feel that there was enough world building
No worries Nici!So we are only one review in the Favorite Author shelf and two away from the Free Space and UF shelves.
i finished The Hour of Dust and Ashes on oct 19th and give it four stars. I love the world that this takes place in and really enjoy the depth of the characters. I wish there had been a little more back story though, because i got a little lost trying to remember what had happened.
I am desperately trying to catch up guys, only completed 2/6 shelves so far, not good in a team challenge, I feel like I am letting you all down.
New shelf is up DEMON I will read Marked by Elisabeth Naughton it is free on kindle and fits. I will work on this shelf and UF to get 4 in a row.
We should try to at least get the UF and Free Space shelves done so then we'll have 4 in a row with demons.I know Sherri was done with a couple of books but she still needs to post the reviews.
I will have outlander for free space finished today or tomorrow, then start the next one, others won't take as long, I will not be chosing a 850 page book again, this was stupid.
I need to switch my choices around. Since I haven't started Green-Eyed Demon, I am going to use that for the Demon Shelf and A Trace of Moonlight for my personal series catch up shelf. I have to do a review of that on Tuesday, and need to finish it. Finished A Sliver of Darkness last night and I can't wait to read A Trace of Moonlight. It was SO good and it ended on a cliff hanger! I'm so glad I can read the next one right now and not have to wait for it. :-)
Demon Shelf:
Series Catch Up Shelf:
.
I finished
for the series catch-up and will post review soon.I started
for the demon shelf and should finish today sometime.
I have finished Outlander for the free space shelf 21 Oct - 4 stars.my review
I really liked this book. The time travel dilemmas were covered well, the battle scenes were authentic and gripping, the love scenes were compelling, the various relationships of the character's were realistic and kept me interested throughout the book. I fell in love with numerous character's and felt the plot was believable, exciting, enthralling, and written very well.
The only downside was the length, this should have been split into 2 books.
Updates have been made in message 8. Check when you have a chance to make sure I have everything correct!
Sherri, as you've read
why don't you use that for Free Space????? It's on the Group Bookshelf. It would give your team the Free Space stamp :)
SHELF: demons
Title/Author: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews
Read for shelf: demons
Date finished: Oct 23
Rating: ★★★★
I started this book a while back in print and stopped reading it - Kate just got on my nerves. So I'm really glad I gave it a chance in audio. I enjoyed it a lot after I got past the first few chapters.
The world building was intricate and very frightening! I was scared to death and disgusted in lots of the scenes. This supernaturals are not all beautiful and shiny! Needless to say that I really liked Curran. I sort of imagine him looking like Daniel Craig. ;)
Thankfully I got all the audios available so I should be able to start the next one soon. Hopefully when the next shelf is called!
I'll do my updates tonight. I just haven't been around a computer much to write them. I have everything read except this demon. and I'll see if the one of the Pang books is on the demons shelf. Back to work
Demons
The Summoning, Kelley Armstrong, 10-22-12Rating: 2 stars
Review: Let's pretend a moment. It's almost summer and you're watching your favorite show. The climax builds and builds and suddenly TO BE CONTINUED flashes on a fade to black screen. What's going to happen next?!!? You can hardly stand to wait for the new season to start so you can find out all those answers.
Hmmm. Yeah. That's not this book.
The middle dragged instead of steadily building excitement toward the end. I even found myself doing something I never, ever do. I read ahead 10 pages, then 25, then 50 to see if the pace was going to pick back up. I did go back and read all the meh stuff; I just really wanted to know if it was worth continuing. Then, when it finished ... my first reaction was not "I have to read the next book, immediately!" Rather it was more along the line of "Really? I have to go through this all over again if I want to know what's really going on? Twice to finish the trilogy?" Note to authors: If you're going to write a cliffhanger, it better be preceded by by one spectacular story.
Maybe I'm being harsh. I seem to have a little smart aleck going on at the moment. But I'm disappointed with this book. I usually enjoy Armstrong's books. I just wish I'd skipped this particular one and spent the time rereading Elena & Clay's story instead. I seriously doubt I will be reading the other two books in the trilogy.
I'm still working on my review of
. I'm having a harder time writing it. Probably because I care more. LOL.
LOL, Daffodil! Thanks for reading "The Summoning" so we don't have to!I have the first book in the 'Downside Ghosts' series and now I saw that it's available on Audible for $6.95. My friend Regina think I won't like the series but I want to try the books because I like the author. I'm just not sure I should fork the money for the audio! Are you reading or listening, Daffodil?
Adele wrote: "The only downside was the length, this should have been split into 2 books. "Believe it or not, that's the shortest book in the whole series. They get progressively longer as the series move along!
That Fiery Cross! I think it was over 50 hours on audio.
I really liked the book but will not be rushing to get the next one because of the length, I could read 4 books in the time it takes me to read 1 of Gabaldans
I read the first 4 books pre-GR and then once I joined the site (I discovered it early on when it first started), I found so many books that it took me until last year to read #5 and this year to read #6.I still have to read #7 but I'm waiting until #8 is published. I'm not used to being caught up with this series!
The worst part is that even though #6 was so long, I wanted to start the next as soon as I finished it. :)

I'm reading. I plan to read
at some point, bought it, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I know from reviews I've read some people who like the Megan Chase series do not enjoy the Downside Ghost books at all because of the totally different tone. Dark and gritty. Addicted to drugs, Chess is definitely not your typical hero. She's emotionally damaged from a rough childhood of abuse. Because of that she has poor self-image, seeing herself as dirty and unworthy of love or respect. Some of the negative reviews call her a whiner. I can see that. But even at her most self-destructive, Chess has this hard core that ends of pushing her back in the fight. And Terrible is totally worth the read. LOL.

my review
The third book in the twilight series - the best so far. I was really pleased to be back in this fantasy world of vampires and werewolves, I love the escapism. The love triangle of Jacob, Edward and Bella was covered very well, the emotions of all were very real. The outcome of this was the desired one but I will always feel for Jacob. The battle scenes were cool without being too gruesome. The plot was as entertaining as the first two books and ended with me wanting to start the next book very soon.
There is nothing majorly clever or on the scale of a literary masterpiece but it is a very good, light, easy to read series that is excellent for taking you away from whatever real-life problems you are having at the time.
ohh i just realized i haven't reviewed Shadow of Night which I finished oct 17th and give three stars to. This was for the vampire shelf. I really enjoyed this book and will finish the series when the next comes out, however, I believe that sometimes the author complicates the plot more so than is necessary, which can make it hard to get through. I loved all the different story lines that come together, but perhaps she explained it to much? I am not sure if that is exactly what made me feel like i was having to push myself to get through it, but i did feel like i was pushing even though I enjoyed the story line.
I will do my demons shelf read next but I have a couple of other team challenge books to read this week as well, catching up as quick as a can, if magic gets called I will readjust my schedule again to try and win. Okay D.G.. Sorry if I held you all up with Outlander

I though, am a sick girl who doesn't let the length get in the way...because I just inform my family that I am checking out of my life when a new book comes out. I'm unstable and I actually plan for it. Whenever Kim Harrison, Jim Butcher, or Diana Gabaldon puts out a new book I just hand over the key card to life and say, "See you all on the flip side!" Then I spend 18 straight hours reading An Echo in The Bone. :) Oh yeah, I'm all sorts of healthy. Hhhhmmmmmm.
On the flip side D.G., you did a good thing by not reading #7 yet. It ranks in my top three for the, "You have absolutely got to be $h!tt!ng me!!!!! You are ending it there?!?" Award. It would have been great to have #8 in hand for that to be sure. I'm so excited for her to finally put that dang book out, sheesh! :)
