I don't really know how to start a review for this because I liked and hated it in equal measure. The worldbuilding was fantastic. I wish all that attention to detail had gone into an adult fantasy novel. I truly loved the idea behind the story and most of the plot and if it weren't for the characters I'd have given it five stars. But oh the characters. Where to start. I've never read a book where the word "whiny" could be applied to each and every character in a book. With some of these YA books, not that I'm an expert, because I haven't read all that many, but with some of them I don't see why a 15, 16, 17 year old couldn't be mature enough not to wallow in self-pity and "woe me" teen angst every few pages.
I'll stop here before this turns into a rant. Don't know if I'll read on but will probably have to because the ending IS KILLING ME. :-)

Favorite author shelf.
This was more a 3 1/2*
I must admit that this hasn't been one of my favorites by this author. I think she has finally come into her own since penning this novel. I think it's unfair though to compare her to other authors based on the fact that they share the same genre, and location.
This book was very slow to start but did pick up and Ms. Monings trademark humor and style began to shine out in the end. For the most part this book had all the good things it needed to be a winner, time travel, yummy men in kilts, fairies, and intrigue...it was just not put together all that well. If you are knew to Ms. Moning this is a good example of her earlier work and worth taking time to read...just be aware that she does have better books out there! Will keep reading to see what happens.

I really liked this a lot. Very Anne Rice meets Nalini Singh. A group of angels had been cast out of heaven with their wings removed and a beast inside of them that feeds on souls. The only chance at redemption is to find their soulmate and bond. Brends can't get Miscka out of his head. She hates anything paranormal but had a cousin missing that she thinks is with one of the fallen. Meanwhile a rogue fallen is killing random women and Mischka and her cousin are on the list. Brends convinces Mischka to bond with him and he'll keep her safe and return her cousin. Brends falls hard for Mischka and is determined to break through her icy demeanor and make her break her rules. Is Mischka his soulmate and can they stop the killer before he gets her and her cousin.

Still wading thru pages of vampires shelf ... mostly seeing "read" "did not finish" and "disliked sample" or books not bought yet so still looking.

(I almost went with Molly Harper's newish Driving Mr. Dead before I realized was only 160 pages and would not fit this challenge; but, if anyone interested in, it is on sale for $1.99 for the kindle)

I haven't cared for anything by her. I tried her Blue Blood series and it kept almost getting good, then dragging, then snotty characters I could not care about, dragging, almost, dragging...ick. Very uneven. But her books always sound good!

VAMPIRES SHELF
Archangel's Storm by Nalini Singh
Finished: October 7, 2012
Rating: ★★★★✩
Number of pages: 352
Review: I really liked; but, I really like the series and have been following. If you are reading the series, there's probably not a lot I can tell you in a review. Way heavier on the romance than the urban fantasy aspect, in this entry the black-winged, nearly mute angel Jason (with some cameos by Dmitri and Raphael and mild and unsurprising spoiler (view spoiler) ), but, the "big picture" story did get moved further along including possibly why Raphael's mother reappered "now" and why Lujan evolved "now" plotline. I enjoyed; but for a vampire shelf -- not that much vampires with the vampires in the series (outside of Raphael's people) pretty cardboard, servile, and interchangeable. The love interest, Mihaya, not very interesting to me either (on the sweetness and light side and really reminding me of a Barbara Cartland innocent regency heroine) although potential hinted at. It's an interesting world, Nalini Singh can write and angel Jason's backstory, viewpoint, and pretty much everything about him was engrossing or the milquetoast Mihaya would have spoiled it for me.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
