Winner: 2 new/ 5 useds

BONUSTriple Page Count: Hero/Heroine is a MUSIC teacher (this can include Band, as well)

Good Luck! I won’t be participating in this one (too much schoolwork to do), but have fun!

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Congrads Deanna! I don't get to use the 438 pages I finished last night!!! LOL. That's OK. I can use it for other challenges. I will begin this new challenge, yay!

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Hey if yall have any hints about books with teachers/music teachers, feel free to list them here. Also romance books are welcome [for me, any genre!:]

message 1464: by Dee (last edited Feb 27, 2010 07:31AM) (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Kenjii - here is one link I found

http://www.jasperco.lib.in.us/Booklis...

http://www.likesbooks.com/marms.html - this category is marms, teachers and governesses, so you might have to look at some of the ones on the list

The Simply Series by Mary Balogh - all features Teachers (Historical Romance)

Several of the Sabrine Jefferies Schools for Heiress series (I think one of them may include a music teacher as well)

The Hero in Nora Roberts Vision in White (Bride Quartet) is an English teacher

i'll update with more

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Thanks Deanna! I really am a PNR fan, but I'll read any romance theme. I can loosely base some of the characteristics of the H/h as a "teacher" but I really want it to count for this challenge =D

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) teacher/student is a category for the women we love challenge, so you can always pop over to that thread and see what everyone is reading for that category. I know Jane was going to read The Piano Teacher so this works perfectly with this challenge.

Great challenge Deanna.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Awesome! Thanks Kate!

I think the start date should be today so what we read today counts toward something. (Said by the lady who is home sick with a bad cold and will be curled up with a book, a quilt, and the Olympics today.)

hhhmmm, book I'm reading now the heroine is a soccer coach.... not quite a teacher. Oh well.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Oh yeah. If I finished that book this AM I wouldn't mind including it in this challenge, hehe. But I finished it 2-27. So yeah its not so much time as it is date. Your right once again Kate =D.

just out of curiosity, how did you come up with the page count of 1932, is that a significant year for teachers or a combination of something?

Thank you! The kids were rowdy this morning but they settled down. I've been trying to rest but not getting much of it today. Time to pick up my book and finish watching the men's curling gold medal match.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 140 comments I am kind of confused as to what the current start date and deadline date is. Can we start on March 1st and end on a certain date?

message 1477: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Awesomevegan - I was going to start it tomorrow, but due to some nice requests, the start date is 27Feb and the end date Mar 16

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) We've always started the new challenge as soon as the last one was won. The end date's vary depending on how long the challenges are, but they can be won at any time if someone hits the goal before then. Rarely does a challenge actually reach the official end date without anyone hitting the page count goal. (In that case, the person closest wins).

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 140 comments OHHH Okay. Now I get it... So I can start on the 1st if I want to but when someone hits the goal it goes back to zero. :)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Yes. A new challenge then starts. It's a contest to see who can reach the goal first. The winner then gets to buy themselves the number of reward books listed. The idea is to motivate us to read our TBR piles, since any book buying during the challenge either knocks you out or resets your count to zero. Clear as mud? lol

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments I have yet to win a count off, so I try to wait till we are in between challenges to buy anything (and then I usually hit the 50 cent rack at my local library), that way my zeroing out doesn't count too badly against me. lol

It is just fun for me to see the page counts add up on the books that I do read.

Hope to see you joining in soon Awesomevegan - we have fun with the challenges and some of these people get really creative with the challenges.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I tend to sneak purchases in between challenges too. :)

message 1485: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments Well, lol I can't seem to beat you guys and sometimes they just call to me - " Take me home and read me! " - haha

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Debbie, I started count-off's last year around this time. I didn't win one until October when I got double page counts for Halloween themed books. I didn't win again until I won two in a row recently. I've never read as many books in a single month as I have this month (21 books). So hang in there.

message 1487: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol - I am just having fun keeping count of it all, I really don't care about "winning", it is just something to shoot for. Life is serious enough, my books are for fun and making it a game like this is the best.

When I go to the bookstore to work and see a book I have wishlisted. I have to buy it. I know I can also request books from upstairs, but I haven't gotten that bad yet.

message 1495: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments lol it does take a lot for me to there too. I use the library a LOT!

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Part of the reason I buy alot of books used online, when I can afford it, is I live in a small midwestern town and our library is pretty small. They have quite a few books (and I do check out books often, mostly non-fiction), but frequently what I want to read, they don't have. And it costs me money for interlibrary loan. I figured for $1 to $1.50 for the interlibrary loan free, I might as well buy it used online and own it for a penny plus $3.99 shipping.

message 1497: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments it costs for interlibrary loans, that doesn't sound right. I don't blame you for wanting to buy used instead. I have a small library but we have a good free - interlibrary system. I have actually started with e-books also, there are even some libraries that now offer those, but in a small midwest town of my own, it has made things easier for me to find.

I feel ya honey! lol (to sum it all up)

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I know some libraries don't charge for inter-library loan, but unfortunately mine does. I don't like ebooks simply because it bothers my eyes (with bifocals) to read large ebooks online. I don't have any ereader because they are all out of my price range.

Where are you Debbie? I'm in SE Nebraska.

message 1499: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments NE Oklahoma - Out Muskogee way.
I have a friend that lives in Omaha but that is about all I know of Nebraska.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I used to live in Wichita, not that far away from where you are. Nebraska's pretty flat and boring. lol Literally... middle of nowhere.
