This is the final installment in the Weather Warden Series and it literally picks up where the last book left off. They are on a ship out in the ocean and Joanne and David are human. There starts a wild ride as this final book again pits Joanne and David against the forces that are trying to destroy the earth and humans. This one is quite the wild ride and really doesn't let up until the very end. It feels like there is no hope and no solution until a really crazy climax and then everything is resolved. I've really enjoyed this series though sometimes it gets old having Joanne try and save the world so many times. But I have grown to really like her and I love David. His passionate commitment to her has been wonderful to read about.

Week 7: Open Space

Read 10/13/12 - 3 stars
This book was a bit of a disappointment to me. It had suspense but was not as captivating to me as some of his previous books. It focused a lot on running around trying to escape from animals and not much on what was happening to try to stop them. Although the main character was the person trying to convince the world there was a problem and find a solution, it skipped from emergency to emergency and said not much of what he actually did in his work.
Items claimed:
place: open space-plain pg 76

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a review. My thoughts are my own, and I received no compensation.
This book is filled with military characters with personal demons. Rather than just making all the well built males an excuse to just throw reasons for the couple to get together, it really was instead in-depth exploration of the characters and their push/pull relationship. They fought tooth and nail against getting together and falling for each other.
Overall, I liked it. But, I found out that military stories, even romances are just not my favorite. All the 'soldier' stuff, which added immensely to the story and helped to explain the motivations of the characters was a necessity, but I had to fight my urge to 'skip to the good stuff'. Not that the military aspect was bad, it's just not 'my bag'. It was especially refreshing that there was NO insta-love. Their HEA was not all happiness and roses, but rather an uphill battle to reach.
One of my favorite quotes:
"Her hormones had stood up and taken notice and practically shouted hooray for penis."
My Items: (My converted for Kindle copy probably skewed the page numbers, because there are only 230 pages, but my quotes list as far as 267)
Blue (called item- already claimed) Page 168 "He pissed red, white, and blue and if someone..."
Road -page 17- "...getting my team ready for running the roads in Iraq."
wing -Location 4091/Page 267- "Hair as black as a raven's wing swung over his forehead,"
Single Male -location 366/8%- "He didn't date army women. He didn't bring many woman into his life or his bed, and invariably, they left, and it was always the same story."

Wow... Just Wow.
There is no way I can do this book justice on the fly, so I'm going to have to re-visit and re-group on my review. BUT... if I could, I would steal stars from other books and give it to this one. It was that good. The heroine, while still in high school seemed much more mature (which I really liked) but still had her 'schoolgirl' moments to keep everything 'real'. I bawled my eyes out (in a good way)... it absolutely touched me.
You likely won't be able to tell from my reading dates, because I did read the first few pages, but then had to squeeze in a book before it was due... but basically I read this in one day. Despite having been ill, and tired, and needing sleep, and having to work the next day- all that took a backseat to finishing this book. Luckily just after midnight I finished.
I will say I'm a little worried about book two. While I loved this book, and am not opposed to seeing more from Will and Lake... I want them to have a HEA. In this book, you can kind of assume that is what happens. But with a book 2 comes 'drama' and most likely 'problems' and I just want Will and Lake to be happy.
Open Space -2 choices- parking lot (location 2002) "... he watches the parking lot slowly empty." or if you prefer, field (like football field) (location 2002) "I dropped the football and walked right off the field."
Single Female - Location 222- "Luckily, I didn't leave any boyfriends behind in Texas. I haven't dated anyone in almost a year."
Yellow -Location 761- "... yet another newnew schedule and a yellow form."
blood - Location 813- "...puddles of blood from a wound"

Week 6: Blue

Read 10/6/12 - 4 stars
This is the sixth and latest installment in the Monkeewrench series. A group of misfit computer programmers, who help the police solve crimes, ends up targeted by a band of terrorists due to working with a retired FBI agent. During the course of a murder investigation, a plot for a massive terrorist action is uncovered and these two cases become intertwined. The last chapter I did not see coming, it adds a twist that could come up in future books. I really enjoy this series.

Place: open space
pg 2 "Just the endless expanse of water and sky and the constant smell of salt on the wind."

My two youngest daughters (18 and 19) are obsessed with this book. They have been trying to get me to read it for awhile. Interested to see what you think of it.

It is awesome!!! I read it.

Wing (location 4135 beating their wings)
Road (location 299)
Warrior (location 1946)
Red (location 59)
4.5 stars This book was my first introduction to Linnea Sinclair and I am so happy that it occurred. Science fiction fantasy is not my favorite genre but this one makes a convert of me! Chasida is a Captain who's been unjustly convicted and sent to a prison planet. She is rescued by Sully, who is a privateer that she chased in her previous job. They had a serious flirtation but nothing had ever come of it. What a mistake on her part! I fell in love with Sully, who was the perfect mix of tender and tough. But he has some serious secrets. The book is a romance but it is also a complicated story about an alternate world - a world with strange creatures, and dangerous prejudices against different life forms. And someone is breeding those life forms and it's their mission to stop this. This is not a quick read, it is long and involved but it grabs you from the very beginning. The only thing that kept it from being 5 stars was that it got a little convoluted towards the end. Other than that, I loved it and can't wait to read the next one.

I loved this book. This book follows a few months in the lives of teens with cancer. As a family member of several people who have had cancer (both survivors and not), I liked getting a little insight as to what they might be thinking. The emotions and trials they go through brought back memories of my experiences. Although the parents are not a huge part of the story, I found myself connecting with their feelings. I definitely needed Kleenex nearby while reading this book.
Items claimed:
people: single female
Hazel-main character (first half of the book) pg 99
"I'm not going on dates...It's a terrible idea and a huge waste of time...I'm like a grenade...at some point I'm going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualties..." excerpts from a couple of paragraphs
place: mountain pg 151
"...the mountain grew with..."
thing: wing pg 145
"...right behind the plane's wing."
color: purple pg 207
"...didn't match my purple bra..."

Also you need a person not a second thing. I didn't count blood. since you have to claim wing.

and for healer, do you think paramedic might count? I think they are mentioned once. Or maybe it was clinic. They might be too vague

Paramedic, EMT, nurse, would be ok for healer.

I was trying to subtly hint about other MIA players. I am trying to not take sides but I don't want to see you all loose so far behind.

This is a wonderful romantic YA/New Adult story. While there are adult themes (like rape) and 'broken' characters, it doesn't end up showcasing some train wreck of a relationship. So many books, especially YA/New Adult seems to have not only 'broken' characters, but they romanticize bad, unhealthy relationships as 'desirable'. Easy, on the other hand, while not a 'poster child' of a perfect relationship, I feel on the whole gives a much better message to younger readers that may still be searching for their identity.
Lucas is your not-so-typical bad boy hero. Motorcycle- check, tattoos- check, piercings -check... but also; an artist that likes to sketch, a man that brings new meaning to the words 'work ethic', and intelligent and thoughtful to boot. It was more than 'easy' to want to melt into his arms.
Jacqueline, was also not overly whiny (IMO) and tried to find her strength. I felt she would be a good role model and mature.
Favorite Quote:
"'I'll take Hot Tutors for $200, Alex,' he said in an unnaturally feminine voice before he began humming the Jeopardy theme song."
I would recommend it to anyone that loves Slammed and/or Beautiful Disaster (but Easy is NO Disaster!)
Healer (page 221) "An ambulance arrived, and the EMTs roused Buck, who at least wasn't dead."
wing (called item- previously scored, Location 820) "My adrenaline kicked in, my body sensing my need to escape and giving wings to it."
Red (Page 60) "hair so red I could tell its color even while standing in this dark field...."
Bar/Pub (Page 21) "I waited for my coffee at the other end of the bar,"

Club is probably closer to what I was looking for. Is the place she is waiting for her coffee selling alcohol?

I think I have 3 items left to get. Looking forward to tomorrow!

Dawn, did you see the post about warrior? Just checking - it's not on the spreadsheet. Post 332.
thanks! Hope our missing friends come back to play!

After that I have gotten caught up in another team challenge where my team has lost a couple of members and I have been trying to make sure we have all our books covered for the last couple weeks. Only one more week to go in that challenge, so we didn't want to have to try to find other players to join.
