I agree, Katya. All of us seem to get our books done pretty quickly. Really interesting books so far!

I can average about a book a day. I have loved to read since I was a kid and over the years have learned to read quickly. I work in a library so I always have a stack of books waiting for me, not counting the ones I own. My parents recently bought me an ereader. I think they were tired of me asking for more bookshelves. I still prefer to have an actual book in hand, though, so I haven't used it much.
Kirsten, I also read about a book a day. I got a nook color about a year ago (because of eyesight problems) and now I'm obsessed with it and don't like to read paper. It has actually increased my reading. I unfortunately have always been a librarian's nightmare as I've never met a book that I didn't want to keep.

Yes! Let me know how you like it!!

By far, this one has been my favorite. Definitely the easiest to read on.
Nice husband!! I can convert my nook color into an android tablet and have the kindle app downloaded on it (as well as other apps!) and I love the versatility of it. I much prefer the color screen. Enjoy!!
I think the asterisk means that you claimed the item not in the week it was presented.....like I got green in week one and then week two green was called so an asterisk is next to that number.
Turtlecollector wrote: "what does the asterisk mean on the spreadsheet?"Katya wrote: "I think the asterisk means that you claimed the item not in the week it was presented.....like I got green in week one and then week two green was called so an asterisk is next to that number."
That is exactly it. Just my way of tracking that I erased your previous post number for that item. I don't know that I really need it, but I feel like if I am deleting something I should note it.
This week's item is shoreline. I'll be reading Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble by H.P. Mallory. On page 176 she mentions she "just has to swim to the shore..." I have to finish the book I'm currently reading, then I'll start.
I've already claimed this item, but I will be looking in all my books for the week to find this! Happy Reading everyone.
I think I am going to read
. It mentions being left on a shore. Does this cover have enough blue to count?
Kirsten, my daughter's are nuts about that book. I'll be interested to hear what you think. They've been trying to get me to read it for awhile, but I've been resisting.By the way, Perks of Being a Wallflower is out this weekend and the book is wonderful. Really thought provoking.
Turtlecollector wrote: "I think I am going to read

Okay, I'm going to read
I may not finish it until Thursday - we'll see how it goes! I should be able to find other objects in a 860 page book!
Week Number Four: Shore LineBook:
From the Hanaford Park Series by Lisa Sanchez ~ 4.75 Stars! (Re-read-9/23)A fantastic story, Book 2 in the series, about Martha, Ryan's room mate from Book 1 in the series, who saved Quinn from his curse. In this installment we find out why Martha is a "goth chick with a chip on her shoulder" who does weird things, has no friends and has that ridicules name-Martha Stewart.
The truth is she is a witch in hiding, having witnessed an evil, vicious vampire murder her Mother and grandmother. He is now after her. She has purposely not made friends while she hid so that if Lucian found her they would not be used as pawns to get to or hurt Martha. She has never had friends, a boyfriend or a normal life. And has spent much of her life hunting and killing every vampire she can find.
Because of the events in Book 1-saving Quinn she has made friends with Jessica and their new roommate Taylor (a girl from Australia) who has some colorful slang...that no one really understands most of the time. It is not just her now that she needs to be concerned about and it looks as though Lucian is in the neighborhood and is set to swoop down and get her.
But Marta meets this hot, sexy bartender (who is actually a vampire, who is actually the owner, who is actually has been watching her. She can't bring herself to kill him or get him out of her mind. We find out some interesting facts about this bad boy ! Xan (Alexander) and his link to Martha. But the chemistry smokes between these two as they pair up to defeat Lucian.
Great book! Lots of build up...the author reveals information little by little and in the end it all adds up. The attraction between these two is hot and I found that I really liked these characters alot. I felt as though these were people I would like to get to know. I think that is what the author excels in...it keeps me reading! Can't wait to read book three in the series.
People~Child (Pg.8) "Shortly after Lucian murdered my mother, when I was a child, I vowed to avenge her death."
Places~Shoreline (Pg.134) "The Texas-sized lump in my throat took on beach-front property, as panic set in again."
Things~Glitter (Pg.3) "Under the bright light of the nearby streetlamp, she looked like a cross between a glittering mirror ball and a Barbie someone bedazzled the shit out of."
Color~Blue (Pg.149) "My skin burned as though I bathed in fire, swathed in the deep blue flame that was Xan."
crap in a hand basket, my latest book had zero shorelines, beaches- nothing. Starting a new book with hopes it has something, and if not worst case scenario, a book I am planning to start Thursday will DEFINITELY have it.
I am 40% done with Devil's Brood, so I'm on target to finish it by Thursday. And Alana, that is quite a colorful expression - crap in a hand basket. I've never heard that one before - haha!!
It's one of my husband and I's favorite expressions. That and crap on toast, but crap in a handbasket is the definite winner. Oh, an Jimmeny Cricket! is another of my favorites. That way if the kids mimic me it's not so bad
I am still going to read my original book I picked, but I finished this book first. Week 4 - Shore line
Heartsick by Chelsea CainRead 9/24/12 - 4 stars
I really liked the different characters in this book; not the usual good vs evil in a mystery. Even though some of them were not likeable, I still kept reading to find out what happens. The main character seems obsessed with a serial killer but still manages to do his job even as he is being manipulated. I did not see the twist at the end of the book coming and have to go find the next book in the series now.
Items claimed:
People: single male
Archie Sheridan - main character
Place: shore line
"The upper beach? Above the tide line?" pg 85
Thing: blood
"He donated two pints of blood to you." pg 316
Color: red
Cover of book
Awesome review, Kirsten! I'm like nervous excited to read that book. I told my mom about it - she loves books about psycho killers.@Alana - I might have to start saying "Jimminy Cricket"!! Crap on toast is pretty good but just sounds so wrong. My kids have come up with some good ones - my son is the best at it. I used to try and get mad at him and end up laughing. We had a rule in my house - don't laugh at anything David does - and I would break it!
Okay, done, but still need to write review and decide what else to claim. But it had like every color of the rainbow, and shoreline twice, and stairs, and single girl and single boy and couples and all kinds of goodies! I probably could have found half the list in this one book
Okay, I'm a little behind in my book. Started reading another I needed for a challenge and couldn't put it down. It will be Friday now before I'm done. Sorry!! Just couldn't resist this other book LOL!Looking forward to the review, Alana!
Week Four: Shoreline (already claimed)
Devil's Brood 9/27/12 ***** stars
shore (p. 19 "rocky shore")
couple (Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine)
white (p.24 robes)
glitter (p.676 hard green glitter)
Wow - this is the third installment in the series about Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. Devil's Brood is the tumultuous story of Henry and Eleanor's sons and the struggle over ruling such a sprawling and diverse kingdom. This is a truly epic, and amazing story - so many characters, battles, political intrigues, family feuds, marriages are going on throughout the story. I loved every minute of. I found myself crying over events that occurred over 900 years ago. Sharon Kay Penman has the ability as an author to bring history to life in such a spellbinding way. She is the best writer of historical fiction there is today and everyone should experience her writing.
Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been online, I'm planning a SUPER last minute move (I've been packing for this whole week and I leave tonight). I read my book though!WEEK FOUR
Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
9/24/2012 - 2 stars
This books was a disappointment. I couldn't really get into it and it just dragged on and on. The plot didn't really pick up until the last 20 pages or so, and even then, it only lasted about 5 pages.
The main character drove me INSANE. She had multiple guys falling all over themselves to be with her, and her attitude was "oh, I don't know why they like me I'm so average" and so on and so forth. And not only that but she had absolutely NO problem with changing in front of a ghost who was seriously one of the biggest creeps I've ever read about.
Also, the writing was SO repetitive. The word "glittery" was on the same page three different times. And if I heard one more mention that Rand's aura had "tinges of purple," I would have screamed.
The story had the potential to be awesome, but instead it just fell flat. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.
Person
Healer - Jolie has the ability to heal herself and others, and does so multiple times in the book - "...as a witch, I could heal myself." - page 195 (Let me know if this counts!)
Places
Shoreline - "I just had to swim through the sludge to get to the shore..." - page 176
Things
Glitter - "...the end was covered in glittery dust." - page 227
Colors
Purple - "His aura had tinges of purple
Ack! It's Friday! Later today I'll finish that review and what-not- SO sorry! Been a SUPER crazy week!
Oh dear, another item I have already claimed. Does anyone know of a book that has glitter and/or nonhuman along with a wheel I might be able to read? I find those a little difficult to find in the usual books I read, and those will get us closer to claiming a noncalled item.
Non human, no problem... I'm fairly certain (I can check on my Kindle in a moment)
Has glitter, and wheel, and non humans. Lemme check quick like a bunny
Check on the glitter, check on the wheel, and definite check on the non-humans('Check' meaning yes, I found it)
Dawn (Kat N Hat) wrote: "Just an fyi you can't claim glitter and wheel in the same week. They are both in the thing catergy."Sorry, I forgot they were in the same group. I was just looking on the spreadsheet for the items we had almost claimed that I hadn't found yet. I can still use it for nonhumans and maybe I can find something else I haven't claimed in it. I read quickly so an extra book won't hurt.
Okay, I found a book with Wheel even though I claimed it already, again! I will be reading
. I will see what else I can find!
Read from September 24 to 26, 2012
I received this book for free from the author in exchange for a honest review.
I'd go as far as 4½♥'s on this. It is technically a YA story, but I think this is one that adults can easily enjoy. This is a first of a series that I am eagerly looking forward to continue.
With all the auras splashing color everywhere, this book reminds me of a Skittles commercial, "Taste the rainbow!" I've forgotten what color contentment is, but I would be surrounded by a cloud of it.
Bad boy <3 .... the motorcycle and tattoos! There were a high amount of what seemed to be more stereotypical characters: the 'bad boy', the 'innocent girl', the 'lecherous step-father-like figure', and the 'mad scientist'; while on the surface not appearing as unique, the book adds just enough spin the break to most of the characters out of their molds. Cal/Cali is so strong and intelligent but simultaneously naive and ignorant. Hard combo to pull off, but Derrolyn succeeded!
Items
Child: (Page 9) "Nobody even knew they had a child until Cal was nearly ten years old,"
Shoreline (Called item): Page 140 "Calvin stooped to collect some pebbles from the shoreline,"
Stairs: Page 252 "They have the squeakiest stairs in the world!"
Purple: (page 140) "... to see Calvin glowing with a bright purple and red affection," (She sees auras)
Week #5
Wrong Bed, Right Guy by Katee Robert3.9 Stars!-Good Read
Prim and proper girl who is always trying to please her parents decides to slip into her bosses bed at night and surprise him. He runs the art gallery she works at. And he is everything her parents would approve of; The exact opposite of her disastrous last bad-boy boyfriend who broke her heart.
She sneaks in, hops in to bed and right before things come to a conclusion she realizes this is not her boss.....turns out it is his older, bad-ass, tattooed club owning brother. He falls for her-the exact opposite of the kind of women he is used to dating and pursues her. She is humiliated and embarrassed and fights his advances afraid he will hurt her in the same way her ex boyfriend did.
A sweet love story, worth the read and part of the "Come Undone" Series, can't wait to read the next installment.
Oh Fudge...not enough pages....okay back to the drawing board.
I am doing a re-read of
and it has a wheel in it for sure.
Week Five: Wheel (already claimed)
Heir to the Shadows 9/30/12 ***** stars
wheel (p.48)
Healer (p.42)
Open Space (meadow p.78)
Yellow (p.44)
This second book picks up right where the first one left off. Jaenelle, the young Queen has been injured(actually raped and tortured) and descended into madness. Daemon, her future consort, in his attempt to save her, has lost his memory of the event and is convinced that he is the one who killed her. This story is very different from the first one. The first was so dark and filled with so much evil and hateful occurrences. This one is the journey of this young Queen to heal and to claim that which rightfully belongs to her. She does this through the help of her adopted father, Saetan, and a group of friends, who will become her coven. This is truly an amazing story - it is the light to the first book's dark side. The lyricism of the prose is absolutely astonishing and the imagery of healing that the author uses is beautiful. I find women fantasy authors often use sexual abuse of female characters and dominance issues between men and women to fuel their stories. It can often be cumbersome and annoying. This author handles these themes beautifully and with such delicacy and complexity. I am really looking forward to reading the next in this series.
Dawn (Kat N Hat) wrote: "darn and that looked like a good story."lol it was....too bad it doesn't qualify for the read...but that is okay!
OK, I know I've found Wheel, Blue, and Warrior in my current book,
but I still need to find one more item and finish
