~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I read the first LotU and didn't like it at all. I've read others in years past but don't remember which one. I can't explain what it is that I don't like - everyone else seems to love her! But I'm always willing to try again!

message 302: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Great work, team!

Sorry it was a rubbish book, Leslie :(

Can you confirm the date finished Kimberly? I assume it's either the 24th or 25th. Thanks :D

message 303: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments It's all good - the book served it's purpose here and it helped with another challenge. On to much better books!

message 304: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments Sorry Josie. It was the 24th. I went back and edited my post.

message 305: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments No probs :)

message 306: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) I'm sorry I'm getting late with this week's book, I will hopefully finish it by tomorrow morning

message 307: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments That's okay, Gea!
We have our next shelf: Favourite Series

I'm going to go peruse, see if anything jumps out :)

message 308: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I've forgotten, can we do re- reads? And guess what, my oldest daughter just got engaged! Yea!!

message 309: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Oh congrats, Leslie!!!!!!! That is fab news!

I'm not sure about re-reads, I'll go check the rules - I think they're allowed...

message 310: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Yes, Leslie!

Q: Are re-reads allowed?
A: Re-reads are not preferred, but are allowed.

ETA: However, if you re-read a book, you may only use that re-read for ONE shelf per game. (IE: You are re-reading Nalini's Psy-Changelings books for the challenge. You want to use book #3 for the 'paranormal-romance' shelf. That is okay. But, you cannot re-read the book AGAIN for the 'favorite-series' shelf.)

message 311: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 346 comments The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter is,my read for this week since it was still sitting out from last week!

message 312: by Kimberly (last edited Oct 27, 2012 07:15PM) (new)

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments Congratulations Leslie!!!
I'm going to read Accidentally Catty for favorite series.

message 313: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks!! This is my second child in 3 months to get engaged. It's a crazy life LOL!!

I'll be reading The Highlander's Touch (Highlander, #3) by Karen Marie Moning this week.

message 314: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Leslie, congrats on #2 biting the bullet!!!!

Re-reads are definitely allowed! I try not to, but sometimes it just has to be.

message 315: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) Congratulations Leslie! :)

I will have problems with this shelf since most of the books from my TBR on it are first in the series and I really don't want to start another one :/

If I don't find anything else I will go for Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh as a re-read

message 316: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 90 comments Congrats, Leslie! How exciting! :)

I'll be reading Seraphina (Seraphina, #1) by Rachel Hartman , but I won't be able to start at the very earliest until Tuesday since it's sitting for me at the library.

message 317: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Very jealous that you're reading Seraphina, Samantha. Hope you love it :)

@Leslie: How old is your daughter? Will you be helping to plan the wedding?

I've started Destiny Binds (Timber Wolves Trilogy, #1) by Tammy Blackwell for fave series. I shouldn't have started a new series but sometimes (okay most of the time) I just have very little restraint :P

message 318: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I have several series that I am re-reading in order. I read them years ago, originally - so this is a personal challenge for myself. This series is one of them.
Thank you, all!!

And Josie, my daughter is 23. And not sure about the wedding. I'm sure I'll be helping some. I already have a board on Pinterest for it LOL!! She is having it in New Orleans (our hometown) even though she lives in Palo Alto. But my son is getting married first in July. He's my second child. He's been dating the same girl since he was a sophomore in HS.

Gea (gea89) Demons
Book: Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione
Rating: ★★★★
Finished: 28-Oct-12
Review: It took me more than half of the book to start liking it. Before that I was almost convinced that I would have to hunt up another book for this shelf. I guessed demons just aren't for me, but since I came that far I decided to stick with it. The book actually got a lot better and it got me interested enough to add the next book on TBR shelf.

message 320: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) I see some of you read Demonica series and author's othe series Lords of Deliverance. I am actually more interested in the second one, but it says it's a spin-off of the Demonica series. So does Demonica have a big influence on the Lords of Deliverance or can I read the series without Demonica?

message 321: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I read Lords of Deliverance first and I had some slight problems, but nothing too bad. I had never read anything like this before and I'm sure that I would never have been able to read it even a year before. The world Larissa Ione created was so crazy! I loved that whole series and gave most of them 5 stars. They were amazing!
I appreciate what you wrote in your review of Pleasure Unbound. I've heard the next one is really intense. I'll be reading it in December. If you'd like to buddy read, let me know.

Mandy Beyers (mandybeyers) | 346 comments The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter
Shelf: Favorite Series
Finished: 10/27
Rating: ****

Although I have taken a long time between books in this series, I still enjoyed the story, although I don't think this one advanced the overall plot very much. However, with only four objects to obtain and lots of Lords to partner up, I supposed that could be expected! In this "installment", Amun, Keeper of Secrets falls for a Hunter that has been re-born over and over again even though she is supposedly "just" human. I enjoyed seeing how their story finally played out and all the past events that bound them together.

(I remember someone mentioned Zacharel in another review and couldn't remember where he had come into the stories - apparently in this one! He was the angel in charge of the angels protecting everyone else from the demons taking over Amun and the one that "helped" the two of them on their quest.)

message 328: by Kimberly (last edited Oct 28, 2012 09:18PM) (new)

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments Mandy, that was me. I just read Zacharel's book, Wicked Nights. It's been awhile since I read the Darkest Secret. I looked back at my review and I didn't like the book that much. I'm glad you liked it though! My favorite part was the crank call to Maddox.

Leslie, I want to be a fly on the wall at your house this Thanksgiving! What an exciting time for you and your family!

I'm reading Accidentally Catty and it's kind of hard to get into. It's supposed to be funny and is funny at times, but it's like I reading a different language. Sometimes I have no idea what the heck they're talking about. And I've read all the other books before this one! I'll keep reading because I know something is going to happen soon where I'm going to say in the end, "that was cool!"

CONGRATULATIONS ON OUR STAMP!!! GO TEAM!!! :)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments The Highlander's Touch (Highlander, #3) by Karen Marie Moning
Favorite Series: 10/29/12 **** stars

I really enjoyed this story of Lisa Stone who is flung into the 14th century in Scotland after she touches a flask. Circenn Brodie had put a curse on it and has promised to kill whoever returns with it. When confronted by Lisa, he has quite a dilemma. I love time travel stories and one reason is that I like to read how the author has the characters handle the experience. In this one the people around Lisa in the 14th century aren't surprised by her time traveling so she is not faced with suspicion and fear. Circenn is quite the mighty warrior and their relationship has a nice arc to it. The history woven into the book about the Templars and Robert the Bruce was interesting but somewhat distracting from the main storyline. And the ending felt a little too pat. But other than those few complaints, a fun, sexy book filled with brawny Highlanders doing what they seem to do best!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments Thanks, everyone! Unfortunately we will not all be together at Thanksgiving, but everyone will be at my mom's house in New Orleans for Christmas. I'm having an engagement party for my son then as well, so should be exciting.
As to his proposal, he gathered together pictures of special times in the 5 years they had been dating and with the help of one of her sisters, put together a book. On each page starting with year one, he had a picture and then he wrote out his special memory of the day. On the last page, he wrote And the Best is Yet to Come, went down on one knee and handed her the ring. He asked her on their 5 year anniversary, and they will be married on the same date (easier for him to remember!). I wish I could post pictures, I would post a picture of it and them. So sweet. And I have to say both my son and my future son-in-law spoke to the father's before asking. My daughter's fiance asked her on their rooftop garden and he got down on one knee as well. So perfect when your kids find good partners. Thanks for letting me share about my kids!

Josie | 1967 comments That is so cute, Leslie, definitely share some pics! I like how they asked the father's permission, I think that's very respectful.

Here's my review:

Destiny Binds (Timber Wolves Trilogy, #1) by Tammy Blackwell

Title/Author: Destiny Binds by Tammy Blackwell
Date finished: 29th October
Rating: ★★★
Review:
Eh, I'm in two minds with this book. For some reason, I had really high hopes, the book was ok but wasn't fantastic.
I couldn't seem to connect to any of the characters, especially the heroine, Scout. Sometimes her emotions were quite wooden (apart from the end) and were quite changeable. I was a bit confused at the beginning, I wasn't sure if Scout knew about wolves. I didn't particularly like her best friend or her brother or Charlie.
The ending was the best part, didn't see that happening and it was very emotional. I'll probably read the next one.

Sandra | 25908 comments Leslie, if you have probs with pictures, add them to your profile pictures area. That always works for me :)

I must admit that my mum was not happy that my hubby didn't ask her first (dad had already passed away), even though I was 26 and not living at home. But she got over it pretty quickly.

Love both those stories. Always important to do something unusual so it becomes a special memory.

message 335: by Josie (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Agreed, Sandra :)

message 336: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments I did that, Sandra! What do you do with pictures once you put them there?

And my husband certainly never thought to ask my mom (single parent as well) for my hand, either! And I will say they didn't actually ask, they simply talked to them about their plans. And you are right, a good memory carries alot of weight when you are having a tough day (week, month) in your marriage.

Sandra | 25908 comments Leslie, now all you need to do is tell us which is which, in the comment area. LOL.

Though they all look good!!!!

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh
Rating: ★★★★★
Finished: 30-Oct-12
Review: It's been quite a while since I read this book and after two books that didn't feature Elena and Raphael it was a good reminder of their beginnings before next book about them comes out.
The book was even better second time around and it has me convinced that I won't be reading Psy-Changeling any time soon, at least not until I get tired of re-reading this series.

message 339: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) Writing the reviews is getting harder and harder for me :/ I actually find it easier to write them if I don't like the book, otherwise I just don't know what to write about.

Leslie, buddy read for Desire Unchained (Demonica, #2) by Larissa Ione would be great, it will give me a good motivation to read the book (I probably wouldn't read it anytime soon otherwise).

message 340: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 1224 comments @Sandra - thanks for the tip! I love being able to see pictures of my kids on here. And yes, they are a good-looking bunch! And the fiance's look good as well. That means pretty babies!

@Gea - I'm so happy you want to buddy read! I'm scheduled to read it in December. I will PM you and we can set up a time and message thread. And I agree about the struggle to write reviews. Some days I'm just not feeling it and have no idea what to say. Though I have a harder time with the bad ones.

Yes, things are pretty crazy, but they have each other and it helps in school. I only have to teach two grades instead of four :)

Nina was flat out annoying. I didn't realize anyone could swear that much. Especially in one sentence.
When she wasn't mouthing off, Katie and Shaw weren't that interesting.
