I read this book a while back, and I cannot remember the title for the life of me. I can remember the plot though. It was a teen novel, in which the lead was a murdered female. The characters lived (they were ghosts of some sort) in this sort of a halfway house, where they would live(?) until they could figure out who murdered them in life and punish them. Then they would drift off into the light. This book had some element of romance in it, between the female lead and another murdered boy. The lead ended up there because she was dead, and much like everyone else needed to find her killer. It turned out that it was actually her photography teacher (I'm not sure on that detail) who had been sexually abusing her and others which caused her to repress the memories. He killed her because she didn't want him taking lewd photos of her anymore, and to make sure that she wouldn't speak out about his indecent behaviour. The moment about this book that stood out to me the most, and still haunts me to this day is one with a floating corpse. The lead and her newfound ghost friends go out with an older ghost to find his corpse and get him justice, finally. His step-dad had killed him and threw him off the side of his yacht, cement blocks anchoring the corpse to the bottom of the ocean floor. That scene keeps me up at night and is one of my main intrusive thoughts. I feel like it would help if I found the book and was able to read the scene once more, to remind myself that it was not a scene of grief, one more of relief of the son being able to find peace in knowing that his murderer got the justice he deserved and that his body wasn't completely destroyed. I'd like to read the book again now that I'm older, and focus on the fact that it wasn't a bad scene. I'd like to focus on something better about the book. So, if you have any idea about what this book could be, I would really appreciate it if you could tell me. Thank you for reading this, and thanks for your time. ...more
