Gail Carriger One might well ask, after the Hindenburg disaster, why there were no dirigibles for decades. Technological abandonment is not as uncommon as most people think, in fact it happens all the time throughout history for various reasons. Mostly we don't know about and we don't study it, because it is an absence. I was working on a PhD on this subject before I gave up archaeology for writing, which is one of the reasons I put it into fiction. The thing to always remember when studying the past (or inventing it, for that mater) is that people want to believe they are logical, but they never are.

Bumbersnoot? Probably still rattling around Buckingham Palace.
