Gail Carriger Given the time period & culture of the setting I don't think Vieve has the language to articulate what she might be. and later on in life the narrator (me) continues to refer to her as a she, even as she always cross dresses.

Gail Carriger No but it certainly sounds like I SHOULD be...
Gail Carriger I talk about what I am writing next in my newsletter only these days, there''s too much blow back if I do it publicly. https://gailcarriger.com/books/chirrup/
Gail Carriger I don't know for certain, I'm in line for the narrator I want. Scifi is a real art form for audio especially one involving the music industry. A good narrator is really important. I'm hoping the beginning of next year. I'm keeping my Chirrup members (my monthly newsletter https://gailcarriger.com/chirrup ) updated with the progress. I appreciate your patience and hope you don't mind waiting for the best end result?
Gail Carriger Thank you. Yes, I have a title, idea, and some notes. (Same for The 5th Gender.) The challenge is Maura's voice is quite strong, so climbing back into it is a bit difficult for me. I need a clear production window. I talk about what's the the works and what I'm writing next in my newsletter once a month. https://gailcarriger.com/books/chirrup/ That said, the Tinkered Stars is currently getting a 3 book series (all written, all releasing 2023) featuring a different crudrat named Phex. So hopefully that can tied you over. I appreciate your patience!
Gail Carriger That would be a question to ask my Brazilian Publisher. I have no control over this.
Gail Carriger Aw, thank you! I'm West Coast based so I do events here all the time. I get up to Seattle and down to LA specifically often. I'm a Bay Area native so I do stuff here too. They're posted to my website events page: gailcarriger.com/events , and I talk about plans (and occasionally put together special fan-only gatherings) via my newsletter: gailcarriger.com/chirrup
I hope to see you at one some day!

Gail Carriger Yes, just the 4 books. There are spin off novellas in which some of the side characters feature and a main can show up, but this series is completed with RETICENCE.
Gail Carriger I have a short story set in the Regency era about Alexia's father (Curious Case of the Werewolf that Wasn't) and I have thought about doing more. Why? I think because I write, steampunk I am more attracted to things set in and around the industrial revolution. On a more frivolous note? I like Victorian fashion better (personally, to wear) and I like how very very silly they can be.

Gail Carriger Aw, how lovely of you to say something. You are most welcome. I like seeing how much emotion I can pack into a kissing scene.... it's a fun challenge. (The one I'm currently working on has a doozie.) Take care, and thanks for reading! ~ Miss Gail

Gail Carriger However you like to imagine their future, you should, whatever makes you feel comforted and happy.
Gail Carriger Aw, thank you. I love getting this question because it comes for a place of patronages and wanting to understand how the book industry works. It's complicated enough that is did a blog post so if you want a full listing that's here: https://gailcarriger.com/2017/07/03/5...
But basically (copied from that):

For my indie (self-published) projects (the publisher will be listed as GAIL CARRIGER LLC) here it is in order of “the most money comes directly to me” via royalties…

1. Directly from my website (via the Gumroad interface)
2. Amazon digital (USA) or Kobo
3. B&N | iTunes digital (USA) and other smaller venues
4. Subscription venues (like Audible)
5. Libraries (if you requested & they order it because they didn’t have it)
6. Amazon print
7. Elsewhere print
8. Reprints (anthologies/audio collections/storybundles)

I genuinely do not know the order of…

1. Traditionally published (digital/print/foreign editions & translations)
2. 3rd party indirect sellers (Amazon & elsewhere e.g. Book Depository)

Yes, I can figure out how much I am theoretically owed via my contracts but with advances, flash sales, discounts, distribution, wholesale deals, subscription models, returns, and licensing fees this is unbelievably difficult to tease out. Also it's different for different editons and sometimes print runs.

This probubly differs depending on the author. So I can only speak to my own earnings. I can say that the very nicest thing you can do for any author is review a book after you buy it. It helps us get seen more and gives us a chance to find new readers.

Thanks again for asking!
Gail
Gail Carriger Ooo, what an interesting question. Well, if you mean the name I just love the word "pickle" and the color green so that's kinda were that developed. If you mean the idea of a secret society of evil geniuses scientist types, I just find something innately sinister about clubs, the us/them mentality, tribalism, and obsession. Exploring this concept in different guises comes up a lot in my stuff. How ideologies can become cult behavior. That kind of thing.
