Scott Sigler It depends on what kind of fiction you're making. If it's based on modern times, with modern constructs and the same laws of physics we use, it can be harder to write fiction because the readers already know all the rules. If you're writing the supernatural or using scifi so advanced it's no different from magic, the author gets to create the rules, then explain those rules to the reader. The latter provides significantly more freedom in creating a story and a world.

I finished the audiobook of Earthcore a few days ago. I had read the previous version and I was wondering how you'd improve on that, but I love the new one! I can't wait for Mount Fitzroy to come out. I'm interested in how you came to set the story in the Wah Wah mountains. I'm a native Utahan and I had to look them up because I'd never heard of them before. Where did you come up with them for your setting?

I think SEA WOLF by Jack London is my all-time favorite, although I was hugely influenced by RELIC by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. That book changed what I wanted to write, showing me that hard science could be just as frightening as the paranormal?
