Megan Lister
Megan Lister asked Scott Sigler:

I finished the audiobook of Earthcore a few days ago. I had read the previous version and I was wondering how you'd improve on that, but I *love* the new one! I can't wait for Mount Fitzroy to come out. I'm interested in how you came to set the story in the Wah Wah mountains. I'm a native Utahan and I had to look them up because I'd never heard of them before. Where did you come up with them for your setting?

Scott Sigler Hi Megan.

I was looking for a spot in the US that provided adequate isolation. Isolation is key in horror stories. You have to create a situation in which your character can't simply call 911 for help, or run outside and up the street to the nearest police station. A remote spot in the mountains did the trick.

Also, I needed a big, remote area where subtle differences in geography would go unnoticed for a long time. And I needed mountains. The Wah Wahs fit the bill!
