Trishla asked Colleen Houck:

Ms. Colleen, I needed some advice on writing. I had read an amazing series a couple of years ago and I thought of a great series that I could start myself. However, it feels like I would be copying some things from it and I don't want to do that as a writer. What would you advice me? Thank you

Colleen Houck First of all, never stop reading. That is very important. You learn so much by reading other authors. There are many ways you can make your series unique but the most important thing to remember is that you will be using your own voice. Create characters and settings that are interesting to you. If you like an idea you read about, write it down and use it to inspire you. Or use a book's theme to flesh out your own. Good luck and keep writing!
