I'd say start with Wizard's First Rule. I feel like reading Confessor first would certainly spoil some of the mystery set up throughout that series. Just my $.02.

I haven't yet read the First Confessor, but I've read the Sword of Truth series, and you learn about Magda Searus a bit as the series progresses. I personally liked filling in those plot gaps as I went and I'm not sure that I would've had the same experience had I already known everything about Magda Searus. If I were you, I'd start with Wizard's First Rule! Enjoy!

Wizard's First Rule is the usual place to start, but I would go out on a limb and suggest reading The First Confessor or Debt of Bones, as they are prequels. Oddly enough, I first read Chainfire because I found it in a charity shop and thought it looked like my kind of book. I enjoyed it so much that I looked up Terry Goodkind and started collecting all the other books in the Sword of Truth series.
I'm sure that if I had started with Wizard's First Rule, I would have gone on to read the whole series.

Definitely Wizards First Rule, it is the foundation of the series, and as the series goes on Magda is mentioned here and there, I am on the First Confessor now before I start the Third Kingdom because it was suggested by Terry Goodkind, So far so goood!

I was curious about this myself and found the answer on Goodkind's website: "If you are new to the world of 'The Sword of Truth' -- before beginning 'The Children of D'Hara', you should begin your journey with WIZARD'S FIRST RULE, the story that changed everything."

I have read the entire Sword of Truth series, Debt of Bones, and First Confessor.
I would start with Debt of Bones, then Wizard's First Rule and the rest of the Sword of Truth series. I felt that First Confessor made a lot more sense, and was much better having read the Sword of Truth series first.

Magda gets mentioned in the series, but reading her story first would let you laugh at how the characters fall for a deception she and her wizard set up. I got hooked with books 9-11 (Chainfire Trilogy), filled in with First Confessor, and then started with Wizard's First Rule. Definitely pick up First Confessor before you head to the Third Kingdom.
