Lynn Pines
Lynn Pines asked:

I am halfway thru this book and still cannot get a 'grip' on the ages of Connie (okay deceased now), Rose and Enigma. Enigma is a grandma and Connie & Rose are her stepmothers???? ... guess I just wasn't concentrating enough in the beginning during character development???

Lea Grady Enigma us 72, Rose is 88, Connie was 91, Margie is 55, Grace is 34, Sophie is 39. I know I am exact or really close because I paid attention to the ages and did the math in my head as I listened to the book.
Rose I drew a family tree to get it straight.
Laura Weiner The odd thing to me was that all the characters seemed to have children extremely young, but this was never remarked on. Enigma is 72 and Margie is 55...but never any references to her being a teen mother. And Margie and Laura's children are all in their mid 30s. There's a reference to Enigma being gray-haired when the children were young...but she would have been 40 at most!
Carlisle Connie and Rose are the sisters that found baby Enigma. So they are her "mothers" in a sense.

Kati I agree it was hard to figure out. I listened to the audio of this, which made it even harder. I felt like in the beginning Enigma was portrayed to be as old as Rose and Connie, it took me a bit to realize she wasn't.
MaryEllen Edwards what are the themes of the Last Anniversary?

Teri Sweatman Connie (eldest of the 2) and Rose are 15-17 years older than Enigma. They raised her. I would say Enigma was probably in her 70's and Connie and Rose are in their 90's. In one chapter Sophie speaks of swimming in ice cold water with Rose who is 90. I would double check, but I already gave the book away
Lisa And it changes at various times in the book which doesn't help.
Connie and Rose were teenagers when they discovered Enigma. So they are between 12 and 20 years older than her. If she's 60ish; Rose and Connie are 80ish. Hope that helps!
Mary Jo I had a hard time keeping the characters' relationships straight as well. I had to keep going back and re-reading the beginning to figure out how they were connected.

Cathi In the beginning, I had to go back through the pages to sort out who was who, especially with some of the chapters not knowing whose voice it was; but after a while, I was able to get it straight.
