There are things described in the early parts of the Thrown Away series, in the ruins, which sound a lot like the shamblers from the DotD series; is that world a 'post-horde' world or is the similarity coincidental?

Thrown Away is actually more related to the series "Dustfall" than it is to DoTD (so far...) There is a section later on in Thrown Away where Jack recalls a close up encounter with them. They are faster, and sort of technically still alive rather than some form of animated thing. Similar creatures do exist in the DoTD series, and I'd probably label them Ghouls rather than Constructs or zombies. Of course, all of my books are linked in small ways so I can't say it's coincidental!

Where did you and Michael get your knowledge of the military? SF operations, weapons systems, aircraft, ships and small arms for the US, England and Russia- one or both of you guys are clearly experts on all of that and more. it's very impressive and adds a rich layer to your books that I haven't read anywhere else in the genre.

The majority of the worlds described in the DotD series all seem to have approximately the same level of technology as early 21st century Earth; cars, shops, recognisably modern but not futuristic buildings is this deliberate? I.e. We haven't seen worlds that are in the equivalent of our distant past or distant future. Is this related to the fact that English is a 'common tongue'
