Hello I am new to goodreads so this may not be the place for this question, but now I have finished all of Karin's series' and then Tess Gartiners' series, I am looking for something similar: not too romantic, fairly simple reads but suspenseful. I am trying the first in a Lisa Gardner series but so far am having some trouble getting in to it. Any suggestions? Thank you/!

I would suggest Tana French's Murder Squad series. I did the opposite and read her books first and when I was looking for something similar I found Karin Slaughter.

I agree with Tiff. Tana French's Murder Squad series is amazing. If you like psychological thrillers, you will love her.
Laura Rhea
I loved the Grant county series and then the Will Trent series too. I looked for something similar but instead I stumbled upon John Connolly. His Charlie Parker series is outstanding.
Race Bannon
Chelsea Cain's Archie Sheridan / Gretchen series
Angela Bennett
There is always Jeffrey Deaver.

Val McDermid has an excellent series. It takes place in Scotland and is interesting and intelligent with a good female lead.
Utahlaw Prince
I really enjoy Kathy Reich and Tess Gerritsen.
Brandon Judell
I would recommend the writings of the Marquis de Sade, who was probably Ms. Slaughter's inspiration.
Anne
Maybe try Lisa Unger?

I know you asked this six years ago (now) but I concur with reading the Murder Squad series by Tana French. As much as I like "series" - hers was a twist I loved and the first time I'd come across it - a character that was somewhat minor in the first book, is the central character in the next and on and on - so they're somewhat interrelated but not the same three or four characters throughout the whole series. Oh, and I'd add Laura Lippman and her Tess Monaghan series.
Vicki Renee
I suggest the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series by Val McDermid. Gritty and well written!

Meg Gardiner's Unsub series is excellent and I believe similar in tone.

Try Linda Fairstein. Her books are set in NYC featuring the DA in charge of prosecuting sexual assaults and crimes along with the homicide detectives. The descriptions are assaults aren't as graphic.
I particularly like the history of NYC and its surrounding towns.

Are you reading the first book in Lisa Gardner's DD Warren series? The first two books in the DD Warren series are a bit boring. Skip to the third book and read on from there. Books 3 to 11 are amazing. I was hooked! Also, try the Quincy and Raine series (aka FBI Profiler Series). Again, the first book is a bit bleh so you can skip that but books 2 to 7 are awesome. Also try Mary Burton's books; she writes romantic suspense. 97% of her book content is suspense and the rest is romance so it's not too much. Try Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen's collaborations. They have written three books. My favorite was "An Anonymous Girl" so start off with that. There's also another writer, Peter Swanson. I haven't read his books yet but I've read good reviews. Check him out too.

Tess Gerritsen is my favourite! Her Rizzoli and Isles series is amazing and you should definitely give it a go. Moreover, I imagine you might like "The Woman in the Window" by A.J. Finn. It's a stand alone, but it fits your criteria of suspenseful, yet simple. I saw someone else in the comments recommend Karen Rose, but personally, I did not like her work. Her books are also quite romance-focused, so they do not fit your description all that well.

A little late. I like Slaughter. Here are a few women mystery writers: Sue Grafton, Stabenow (based in Alaska), Linda Barnes, Tess Gerritsen, Muller, Linda Castillo, Sara Paretsky, Lisa See, Lisa Gardner. Have fun!

Karen Slaughter

Highly recommend Alafair Burke. Her later books, including a couple of stand-alones and all of the Ellie Hatcher series, are good places to start.

I would suggest Karen Rose. She's great! I asked Karin Slaughter to recommend a few authors that she likes and she suggested Karen Rose.
Kasey Elliott
I just started reading the Death on Demand Series, its good.
