Is the Count Selig Vorkosigan from the Time of Isolation who is mentioned a few times in the books also the father of Count Piotr? If not, do you have any ideas about Piotr's father? We know he was married to a Vorrutyer and that Piotr had inherited by age 22. Does that mean the Count Pierre's father died during the First Cetagandan War or before the end of the Time of Isolation?

I've never formally apportioned those names. So a Selig (or someone named after the first Selig) is possible for Piotr's father's name. Or it could be something else.

Yes, Piotr's Da did die during the Cetagandan war, just when unspecified, making Piotr the young count and... well, general he earned, or took, on his own. Not later than the bombing of Vorkosigan Vashnoi, a late-war event, though it could have been earlier. If in the bombing, one wonders how any bodies were retrieved for burial -- or perhaps reburial -- at Surleau.

(The Cetagandan occupation started about 15 years after the end of the ToI, therefore ending about 35 years after the end of the ToI.)

Her pragmatism about government, about God, about life, and about parenting helped shape the way I view many of those things. I was struck when Elena tells Miles that Baz has made up his own story about who Miles is--that he's essentially exiled for being a mutie and his younger brother has ursurped his place. Minus the exile, that's pretty close to Ser Galen's plot. Did you know that already when you wrote The Warrior's Apprentice?
