Martha asked:

Are "That Was Then, This Is Now" and "Rumble fish" a kind of sequel or something from "The Outsiders"??

Diana Pimentel Its more in the same universe, but not really involving the same characters as ¨The Outsiders¨. Still the same universe though.
Sarah Ryan "That Was Then, This Is Now" is set a few years later, in the same town as "The Outsiders" and some of the characters are similar. Bryon and Mark, the main characters, meet a hippie named Randy, who was formerly (though it is not mentioned) Bob's best friend. They also briefly talk to Ponyboy, who is simply referred to as 'Curtis' and is now dating Angela Shepherd.

Rumble Fish has almost no relation, besides the fact that it still deals with issues that teenagers often face. Also, Rusty-James' idolization of The Motorcycle Boy is similar to Ponyboy's admiration for Sodapop.

Ava Hyland No, they're in the same universe but a few years into the future and both Ponyboy and Randy make a cameo in "That Was Then, This Is Now" and Rumble Fish does not have any characters from "The Outsiders" mentioned, so they are most certainly not sequels.
Allyssa Win Ponyboy is in That Was Then, This is now, I'm pretty sure, as one of the characters boyfriends, so they do get mentioned in other books by S.E. Hinton.
Doomslug Not exactly; they have the same time frame/setting, but different characters and plots.
John All her books that are set around the Tulsa area are connected.
Alex Both books jump ahead in time by years. That Was Then This is Now is a sequel and has two similar characters: Randy Anderson and Ponyboy Curtis. They both play a minor role in the book but Rumble Fish isn't a sequel.
Karen Murray No, these books are not sequels. S.E. Hinton will never write a sequel to The Outsiders.
Lola They're connected to "The Outsiders" but aren't sequels.

Ponyboy even appears in "That Was Then, This Is Now" briefly
Arianna What's Soda pop, Darry, and steve interests and actions in the book "The Outsiders"?
