Bryon and Mark, the main characters, meet a hippie named Randy, who was formerly (though it is not mentioned) Bob's best friend. They also briefly talk to Ponyboy, who is simply referred to as 'Curtis' and is now dating Angela Shepherd.

Rumble Fish has almost no relation, besides the fact that it still deals with issues that teenagers often face. Also, Rusty-James' idolization of The Motorcycle Boy is similar to Ponyboy's admiration for Sodapop.(less)
