[Answering questions that I wasn't able to get to during our book launch party.] From Asheville Melanie: "How much time did you spend putting together all these music references? THE DINGEES, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? Was there a band you couldn't fit in?"
Jason Kirk
A ton! Not just going back and re-listening and scouring tracklists to see which thematic elements lined up (every reference in there is for a Reason besides just timing or nostalgia or whatever), but also big-picture stuff like trying to tell the story of the Evangelical music industry within the context of 2000s music at large — as in, showing characters who don't just listen to those Dingees, but know and appreciate the secular bands that influenced the Dingees.
A ton of scene bands came out just barely too late to be included, but the main one is mewithoutYou from Philadelphia. My doubt-afflicted church kids from Pennsylvania surely adooooored mwY. Had to go chapter title, at least.

[Answering questions that I wasn't able to get to during our book launch party.] From Knoxville Lucas: ""From your perspective, how did you feel your own faith grow and change as you composed, refined, and polished this manuscript? By extension: how do you feel the manuscript shaped you as you were writing it? Are there any surprising truths you found to be true about yourself as you articulated the book?

[Answering questions that I wasn't able to get to during our book launch party] From Dan McFall: "You've hinted at it on social media over the year and I am curious what putting this novel together has revealed to you about your faith today? Not necessary in Christianity or even a biblical notion of God just what spiritual catharsis came out of the book."
