Goodreads asked R.S. Pyne:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

R.S. Pyne 1) Read a lot... write a lot, and don't take rejection personally.
2) Take notice of every piece of constructive criticism and treat it as an opportunity to improve.
3) Pay attention to grammar and spelling.
4) If you are submitting to a paying magazine, make sure you follow the submission guidelines.
5) Make sure you use dialogue correctly and leave out unnecessary detail or padding. When you edit, try and cut the piece down by 10% to tighten and improve the flow.
6) Read Stephen King's book 'On Writing.'
7) Write something EVERY day - it helps to set yourself a daily or weekly target.
8) Above all....Stay positive - we all have to start somewhere.
