R.S. Pyne I would have to say US Marshal Karen Sisco and Jack Foley in Elmore Leonard's 'Out of Sight'. The two have real chemistry, helped by Leonard's trademark sparse dialogue.

If we get a second vote: Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester.
R.S. Pyne 1) Read a lot... write a lot, and don't take rejection personally.
2) Take notice of every piece of constructive criticism and treat it as an opportunity to improve.
3) Pay attention to grammar and spelling.
4) If you are submitting to a paying magazine, make sure you follow the submission guidelines.
5) Make sure you use dialogue correctly and leave out unnecessary detail or padding. When you edit, try and cut the piece down by 10% to tighten and improve the flow.
6) Read Stephen King's book 'On Writing.'
7) Write something EVERY day - it helps to set yourself a daily or weekly target.
8) Above all....Stay positive - we all have to start somewhere.
R.S. Pyne I live in a particularly beautiful part of rural West Wales and a lot of my writing draws on Welsh folklore, and the Welsh countryside itself. I am lucky enough to have a pair of resident ravens nesting very close to my house - every year they come into the back garden when they have young to feed - very useful for writing Celtic fiction! I have a historical reenactment background (Iron Age Celtic, 1st C BC to 1st C AD) with first-hand experience of the dress, crafts, technology and weaponry of the period. This has been invaluable for writing my Island of the Mighty series - set in a Britain where the Roman Invasion failed. The books draw on the history of Iron Age Britain but the Boudiccan revolt of AD60/61 was a success in my time-line!
R.S. Pyne I am at the 50,000 word mark on the third of my Island of the Mighty series - set in an alternate Britain where the Roman conquest failed and the Old Gods still influence events. Work on a darker fantasy series is progressing well and a historical horror novella is currently with a beta reader.

I have also been very busy with my post-doctoral research. This month, a research paper on the Quaternary Ecostratigraphy of the Somerset Levels will be submitted to an international peer reviewed journal.
R.S. Pyne By working on several projects at once and moving on to something else if block strikes. If all else fails, I take my dogs for a walk in the woods and watch the red kites and the ravens. Sometimes, I think writer's block is the mind telling you to take a break.
