Goodreads asked Patricia A. Guthrie:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Patricia A. Guthrie Don't make the same mistake as I did, don't give up even for a year. If you want it badly enough, read everything you can in different genres, non-fiction books on grammar--perfect your grammar only breaking rules when you know the rules) Get a great Thesaurus (I recommend Roget) Find a couple good Beta readers who will give you honest opinions and not knock you under the dirt with good intentions but brutal feedback. (I don't mean they should say it's good when it's not) Find your ideas from creative places. Theres so much out there where you can find germs of ideas and create novels. Try (and I do mean try) to get organized. Set aside time for writing and WRITE.
