Were you aware that you were creating a modern masterpiece when you were writing the broken empire, or did it come as a surprise? Also thank you for creating a thoroughly gripping, lean epic with masterfully crafted characters. Fifty years from now, this trilogy will be sitting next to Tolkien in the racks! :)

Mark Lawrence Well, it's very kind of you to say so. I had no idea it would be so successful, no. If it had sold 1,000 copies I would have been impressed, and 10,000 would definitely have exceeded expectations.

As to "modern masterpiece", that seems unlikely. It's also extremely unlikely that I'll be around in 50 years to see how the books are doing. But I imagine that like 99.999% of all popular books today, it will be forgotten.

Were you worried about making the MC Jorg so very young? He commits all these atrocities so why make him 13? Do you find it takes away from the credibility - the 'believabiltiy' if you will, of the plot? Or was it done in order for a younger audience to be able to relate to him?

The visuals and art are so impressive, and I feel it would lend so well to Epic Fantasy stories that it seems like a no brainer.
