Yes! I was actually relieved. Finally they will have to believe Blythe. I felt for her for the entire book. I still wonder if Gemma suspected she was telling the truth about Violet in the cafe and she stormed out because she didn't want to believe her son was in danger.

I remember a book from 1954 called 'The Bad Seed' This novel very much reminded me of that book. It was written by William March. Also a movie.

I was finally relieved when I read that last sentence because I myself had doubt about Blythe's claims but at the same time I wanted her to be the sane one .. after all, her kind neighbor's interference in her childhood exposed her to a normal "mother figure" which helped her be a better person/mom, as she wanted ...

Yes. Without a doubt. (Vindicated, as others have said.)

Maybe she stormed out because she realized Jet was with Violet and rushed home (like Gemma did) to check on him thinking he was in danger??

I was unhappy that this abominable book was written in the first place

Poor little Jet. But yes, I needed to believe Blythe was not the problem. To me the ending was perfect in that yes, something's happened to Jet but no, it doesn't have to be as bad as what happened to Sam... it could be anything and not much at all - but enough for Gemma to know Violet is dangerous and to keep her son away. And for Gemma to know Blythe was not delusional and Fox indeed was!
Susan's Reviews
No, I was definitely NOT happy because a child's safety was at stake and I expected the protagonist (Blythe?) to do MORE. I would have made a big fuss, called children services, WHATEVER, and even no one believe me, at least Violet would realize that people would now suspect her if anything DID happen, and the baby would be somewhat safe. I thought this was a TERRIBLE plot device. This was an imaginary baby and I was so flipped out and angry. Imagine how I feel when I read about child abuse in the papers. Was this novel advocating that we just sit back because, hey, I told everyone in a pretty typewritten account, but no one believed me?! I'm all worked up again!!! I knew this novel was going to end this way.

Kind of... it is definitely vindicating because literally... she was gaslit by her own 7yo for YEARS. I have no idea how i even feel about anything anymore after reading this book
