Goodreads asked Ruthie Morgan:

How do you get inspired to write?

Ruthie Morgan I think inspiration comes from so many things; a life I try to live fully, and all the happiness, fear, joy and despair that comes with just being alive.
Twee but true :)
My inspiration for Skylark came from a life keen observation and a love of people, experiences in travel, being in love, being a parent and a partner.
I wanted to write a real love story. A relationship exposed in all its imperfections, a novel that encompassed the challenges of loving someone who walks the fine line between brilliance and madness. In Skylark I hoped to portray the challenges inherent in love, parenting and coping in a world where we often leave homes and loved ones to settle and make lives in new corners of the world.
I am inspired by the strength of love within family, by the bonds that bind us despite distance and time.
Lastly I wanted to write about addictive love; about love that takes us over despite the knowledge that our actions may be unwise. I wanted Skylark to tell a story of loves beauty in imperfection.
Lastly, but no less importantly; I am inspired by reading. I love to be lost in a novel and read a wide range of authors. I am constantly amazed by the beauty of words delivered through story. I think all authors really must read in order to write.
