Anyone else not enjoy "Dune Messiah" as much as "Dune"? I'm not sure. Really I didn't understand the concept of jumping 12 years after the ending of "Dune". I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. I'm glad that others had a better experience than me. Anyone else experiencing these same feelings?

I certrainly did not, though they are very different stories. I was very confused why we did a huge time jump and skipped over the jihad, continued struggle between Atreides and Harkonnin, battle with the emporer, and Paul taking over the universe. That seemed like a much more interesting story and the events there impacted every single character in this and even had them constantly referencing back to them. Why not tell that story?

I had the same feelings. Found the book very dull and self-important. Almost nothing actually happens, which would be fine if the dialogue, the prose, or the themes were compelling, but they're just not. At least not compelling enough to carry the whole book with hardly any actual advancement of the plot.

What Frank Herbert did to his fans with Dune Messaih is similar to what the cuckoo does to other birds and with offspring. He lured us in with a great story of action and adventure and switched it out with a snoozefest of political bickering and machinations. I'm not sure if I can trust him with book 3...

yes same with me...from my pov, frank did a good job in buiding a world in book 1 but after book 1 it seems his ideas became too ambitious to seem realistic....even jessica was too absent from book 2 and played a very secondary character in third one, one of my fav. character

I liked the world building and adventure of the first book, although I wasn't a big fan of the flat characters. The second book I found to be prentious pseudo-philosophical drivel, mostly.
